Sensor bar placement - newbie

I know this thread is probably redundant as hell, but I am new the the CAG website and forum. I've only had my Wii about 3 weeks now.

I own a 41" TV that sits on a stand. The top of the TV (screen) is approximately 54" from the floor. The bottom of the screen is about 25" from the floor. I currently have the sensor bar on the bottom of the screen (25" from the floor). I've tried it on top of the TV (54"), also. Depending on the game, some work better with the sensor bar on top, some work better on the bottom. For instance, Wii Sports works better with the bar on the top, and other games that don't require as much remote movement work better on the bottom.

I have thought putting the bar back on top, using the stand and angle it downward. Any thoughts on this? Does anyone have any suggestions on placement of the sensor bar? There are no extreme light sources near the bar.

I appreciate any suggestions...

Just put it on the same surface the TV is lying on, or on top of the TV itself. Then on the Wii options put the right setting (above or below TV). That'ss all that matters, not height from floor or anything else.

Even with the settings in the Wii set correctly and the remote calibrated, I still have the inconsistency. Is this something I will just have to live with?

Try moving either closer to or further from the TV, and try to stay within I'd guess 4 feet to the left or right of center of the sensor bar. I find that the controls get finicky when I move too much to the left or right, and being too close to the TV can also cause problems.

I appreciate any suggestions...[/quote] The only thing the sensor bar is used for is pointing at the screen. Any difference you perceive between sensor bar placement, and motion like throwing the bowling ball, or swinging the bat in Wii Sports is in your head.

That said, for pointing, I find that having the sensor bar at the height that is closest to the height I am playing at works. For example, if I am on the floor sitting, I place it below the t.v. If I am on a couch at the TVs height (or any higher up), I place it above the TV

If your on screen pointer jumps around a lot, check your distance... if you're too close, it won't work and if you're too far it won't work either.

another thing that really affects the screen pointer jumping around is sunlight. if your TV is in front of windows then the Wii will likely be unusable when it's daytime.

close the curtains and all will be well.

My buddy was somehow getting reflections from a nearby window etc off his TV screen that was messing with his bar also.

I have a CRT and black entertainment center and have no issues what so ever. I never move my sensor bar unless bringing the wii somewhere and have had No problems. The few flat screens I have hooked it to have had some slight reflection issues.

Good luck.

i've discovered two things:

with the sensor bar at the base of my tv, and all the correct settings, while sitting on my couch approx 4-5 feet away, everything works perfectly. while standing (the...everything becomes jittery.

with the sensor bar on top of the tv, the problem reverses itself (standing, sitting) only to a slightly lesser extent.

Wow. after reading the sensor bar posts, i'm amazed how many different things affect the functionality of the Wiimote... I don't have those problems and hopefully never will. I placed the bar below the TV using the double sided tape that came with the Wii. I would say the bar is about 3-4 feet above ground. I don't have problems with the Wiimote as long as the battery is good (derr!). i have problems with Wiisport boxing and Zelda fishing (Colin's rod), but i guess that's a user problem... However, from time to time, the pointer does take a while to appear on the screen (you need to move your arm around and locate it, pretty much like controlling a mouse pointer on the computer). I believe that's the problem with height and closeness to the TV.

Playing bowling on the 56" DLP is pretty addictive!
