Several questions from a newbie looking to buy for my 6 1/2 y.o.

IOWABERG

CAGiversary!
I just bought a DS, so , I'm looking for some easy to learn, "pick-up and play" games for my son. Anything that has an learning or educational feel to it would be a bonus. Also, I'm looking to spend $20 -$30 on a travel kit. Will something like this do ok?

Finally, do DS's have any history of breaking. I'm wondering if I should even consider a replacement plan. Looks like Amazon doesn't offer replacement plans?

Rather than add any answers, I'm going to throw another question out. Is the nerf armor the best physical protection for the ds? Or would something like the ds robo armor hard shell be better?

I think my 7 year old nephew is going to fuck up his new mario limited edition ds.

well chances are if hes gunna fuck it up, the armor wont help much.9/10 the screen will get broken first. but i just looked at both at amazon, and i am not sure but i think the nerf armor looks like it might protect better. but is only from looking at pics, i have never actually used them

my bro still has the origional ds and hes never had ne problems, leads me to believe as long as it is not abbused it will hold up, if a little kid is goin to be using it, u may want a protection plan of some sort as far as the travel kit, i have no idea bro.

DS's don't break themselves, 6 1/2 year-olds break them.

The real question is, does your son have a tendency to drop, throw, or slide things that he's not supposed to, or by accident?

My 2-year-old son plays with my SP frequently, he turns it on and loads up my Zelda Minish Cap saved game. Next thing I know, I hear "hyaah!" "Hey!" from my SP. It's him swinging swords at nothing.

He's also gotten ahold of my DS quite a few times, but I don't ever let him use it. He understands they're not to be handled roughly, and has never just tossed them aside or even left the SP on. He turns it off when he's done making Link yell for about 5 minutes.

The NERF armor is by far the best choice for anyone concerned about abuse. There's no comparison between 1/2 inch of NERF and a thin plastic case.

I would recommend the Nerf Armor. The DS seems really protected in it. Only problem was that I got it for my 5-year old and he complained that his DS lite felt too bulky. I removed the Armor and just put a skin on it with the condition that if it breaks, he is not getting a new one. His first DS lite was broken by his younger brother when he left it out. He also lost my red SP.

The biggest thing you have to worry about on a DS lite is the hinge breaking. Either the Nerf Armor or robo armor should help with this. Also, make sure you get a screen protector. The Hori protectors seem to be the best.

Gamewise, I would recommend:

Lego Star Wars
Lego Indy Jones
New Super Mario Bros.
Yoshi's Island
Lego Batman
Clubhouse Games
Mario Kart DS
