The Wii Shop Channel serves as Wii’s online storefront, where visitors can redeem Wii Points(TM) to download games or other items. Users need a high-speed Internet connection to access the Wii Shop Channel and choose from at least 12 classic Virtual Console(TM) games that will be ready to play on launch day. Some of the games a player can download include: Donkey Kong(R) (NES(R)), based on the arcade game of the same name; SimCity(R) (SNES(TM)),
where players get to build a city from the ground up, being responsible for each decision they make; Super Mario 64(R), the first-ever true 3-D game, which changed the face of gaming forever; Sonic the Hedgehog(R) (Genesis(R)), the fastest blue hedgehog on Earth whips through hair-raising loop-de-loops and into dizzying dives; and Bomberman(R) ‘93 (TurboGrafx16(TM)), the exciting, powered-up version that followed the original Bomberman(R).

More Virtual Console games will become available weekly every Monday following launch and by year’s end, gamers will be able to pick from a library of 30 or more classic games from the Nintendo Entertainment System(R), Super NES(R), Nintendo(R) 64, Sega Genesis(TM) and TurboGrafx16 consoles. Users buy Wii Points at retail or with a credit card in the Wii Shop Channel and redeem their Wii Points to download the classic games. NES games start at 500 Wii
Points, Super NES games start at 800 Wii Points and Nintendo 64 games start at 1,000 Wii Points. Sega Genesis games start at 800 Wii Points and TurboGrafx16 games start at 600 Wii Points.

The Wii Shop Channel is also where users will go to download the Opera browser that will let them surf the Internet from the comfort of their couches on Wii’s Internet Channel. More information about the availability of the browser will be released in the coming weeks.

On Dec. 20, Nintendo will roll out the Forecast Channel. Users will be able to access free local weather information, which is continually updated. Users can access worldwide weather information by browsing a 3-D globe. Weather information will be supplied by Weathernews. A high-speed Internet connection is required to access the Forecast Channel.

Then on Jan. 27, the Wii Menu News Channel will make headlines with the latest news from around the world provided by the Associated Press. A high-speed Internet connection is also needed to access the News Channel.

No weather channel on day one makes me a sad Panda.

Doesn't really matter to me...Dec.20...heck what's one day? lol...you should be able to get through that one day playing zelda xD

I can get news and weather on the TV and on my PC. It is a neat option, and a month wait isn't making me upset.

What makes me upset is how they word the VC game pricing. "NES game START at 500 points..Genesis games START at 800 points..." etc.. :whistle2:\

Interesting. I wonder if they're really unfinished, or if they're strategically withholding them.

Also, TJ&E better be ready for launch!

Oh noes! No weather breaks from Zelda for me, I guess. Was about to get around to posting this. I was almost excited that MORE VC titles would be available every week, but it looks like they're just releasing them in waves instead. Ah well. I just want that second round of titles in Q1 next year.

It's fine with me as long as they stay within the tiers. i.e. Super Mario Bros. 3 isn't going to cost more than an SNES game and Mario RPG isn't going to cost two times the amount of an N64 game, etc.
I wonder if the weather channel will have ANY affect on some games....such as Animal Crossing...? Hmmm..
I was just wondering the same thing... :D

While kind of a neat idea, do you really want it to be inside playing AC because it's raining outside, only to discover it's raining in the game, too, so none of the animals will go outside? Just sounds too weirdly reflective to me. I just hope they return the real holidays and such to the Wii version. Also be cool if you can buy an arcade cabinet and play your VC titles from within the game. Goofy, but kind of neat.
Wait, so no browser at launch? I thought Opera/Nintendo announced it would make launch and be free 'til March or whatever?
Opera said something a while ago, but there's never been anything official from Nintendo. For some reason, I think NCL just leaves NoA hanging on everything.

Oh december...well either way I am more looking forward to the Mii thing, weather channel doesn't interest me as much but it would be nice to have =/

The animal crossing idea is a terrific one. I really hope that they would be able to apply something like that. It would really create that feeling like you're really in the game.

If you say it like that, you can get your VC games on the computer also. Its called emulators.

Doh, that's too bad about the news and weather. That was one of the features I was banking on to justify getting a system for my parents for Christmas. Sure they can just turn on the TV or read the paper, but using the Wii would be so much cooler (and intuitive). I hope the sending messages online through the message board is still intact.

Ah, it's ok with me. As long as they get the game parts right, they can delay those other channels and things as long as they need to. I didn't think those were even necessary in the first place.
How is it that two channels now equal "several"?
If you count the browser with weather and news it's 3.

This is disappointing, but not too surprising given that most previews of the channels I've seen were a little sketchy. Virtually nothing was revealed about how the news channel will look or operate and the only thing we've really seen of the weather channel is the nifty globe. More time will ultimately result in a better final product (Twilight Princess is proof of that).
