Shaq-fu CGI - this is sick! (Real?)

CAGiversary!
this is awesome. fuck CGI. (yes, i realize some of you may have already seen this but just in case :) ) before the debate rages, read the below claim. i'm leaning toward it being real although as someone else already pointed out there are some suspect looking moments. clever engineering?

There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in this film.
Everything you see really happened in real time exactly as you see it.
The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very
minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up
again. The film cost six million dollars and took three months to
complete including full engineering of the sequence. It is becoming the
most downloaded advertisement in Internet history.
Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for itself simply in
"free viewings" (Honda isn't paying a dime to have you watch this
commercial!). When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed
off on it immediately without any hesitation - including the costs.
There are six, and only six, hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To
the horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them
to
make the film. Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls,
floor, ramp and complete Honda Accord) is parts from those two cars. The
voiceover is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda
executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer graphics
have gotten. They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for
real.
no tricks huh, is that why the tires gain momentum going uphill?
ye there are a few points where things look suspect but you can't rule out some kind of "scientific" tricks to make some of those things happen. i think by tricks they meant computer imagery. but then again wtf do i know, eh?

When I was in elementary school, I read a book on the science of magic tricks that had something like making rolls of tape go up an incline. Guess you need to tweak the center of mass on the object with some counterweights, and give the object a push to disturb that balance.

The tires going uphill give it away- the second tire hitting the third and a split-second later the second tire STILL goes uphill? Hmm..

Nevertheless, that is one of the best Super Bowl commercials I NEVER saw.

tires rolling up hill? perhaps they got some weights in there.

these guys are engineers... i work around these guys everyday. some of them are f****g smart, mang.

this urban legend site is backing it.

i just got word from my homie that this is like a year old. whoops. i never saw it though.
I am highly disappointed. I thought this was going to be a rendering of a scene from Shaq-Fu in CGI. :(
Haha so did I. It was a nice Rube Goldberg machine though.

It's actually done in two takes, not one (read the snopes article) and there's a weight in the tire to explain it rolling up.

Me too...

A year old? At least three, but it's still cool.

Well, if you notice, they gain some velocity, but soon slow down.

Same here. I saw this years ago when my little brother e-mailed it to me... but it's still in my inbox because it's too neat to delete.

Don't forget to add some CGI! :)
So predictable.
I shit my pants watching it.

I was reading the caption on the right side, or whatever, and wasn't really paying attention to the video so it really took me by surprise.

So anyone care to Google and post the science behind some of the seemingly questionable stuff. I'd be interested to read how you can do some of it.
