Hmm. Maybe we should sticky this so that we can share our PSP backgrounds, kinda like the Logitech Playgear thread? I'm going to change the topic title.

The ones I made so far (I have no photoediting skills so...):
01.bmp

02.bmp

03.bmp

04.bmp

05.bmp

06.bmp

Now to make 6 more and then my PSP will be good.

DONT fuckING STICKY THIS!!!!!

If something where to happen when flashing the firmware you are screwed, and stuck with a damn $250 brick. This thread should be titled "Use At Your Own Risk!!"

MOD NOTE: WATCH THE LANGUAGE!!! - DaPhatty
I cant figure this out...anyone one want to type instructions for dummies?
haha, agreed - all this h4xx0rz stuff is beyond me too ;)

It's not flashing the firmware.

gopher is right, Gtmaster. first, know what you are talking about before you come in here and go OMFG DONT STICKY THIS!11!!

Whoknows, i'll try to put up a guide here in a little bit.

Go for it guys, but as soon a new update comes and renders your psps' useless, dont bitch. I still think this should be "use at your own risk". I'm not trying to be a asshole, I just want to make people more aware. Youre messing with the system files, that not only voids the warrenty with Sony, but I'm sure messes with the B&M warrenties too.

When that happens I'll just put the old background back and exchange it saying it wont update for some reason

Edit: anyone know where to find the old backgrounds?

Notice my post in there.. not sure if that's just look-a-like static backgrounds or the real animated ones. I'm guessing they are static look-a-likes.. until I get a confirmation of a way to completely restore the original backgrounds, I'm not doing this. Homebrew/NES on the other hand... :)

Cool, thanks.

And by animated do you mean those lines that move when you turn it on and stuff?

Yeah. Though they are constantly moving.

Thoes lines are sepreate from the background, they'll be there no matter what your wallpaper is.

That's quite humorous. All Nintendo BGs on a PSP ;)

You're not flashing the firmware, lol. Neither is use any of the emulatores. Your simply running a program on an OS-type based system. Its easy to change back and does NOT void your warranty in any which way (Your not opening your system).

I encourage you all to check out my new site
ALLPSPSKINS (http://www.allpspskins.com)

I have created a site for psp backgrounds. Its still in very early development but the gallery is intact and online. You may download all the skins you want for free. Upload any that you deem worthy.

I am VERY active on this gallery so there will be no crap (at teh moment no advertisements, no junk skins, and sry guys but no hardcore porn either) ive seen other "free" gallerys online and want this one to be top notch. You will see over time that we will be dedicated to good high quality psp skins and loaders only.

Can someone explain to me why these won't work on my PSP?
070vc.png

086mj.png

And they are in BMP format, 24-bit, 149Kbs, 300x170. I don't know whats wrong.

The ones your have up are in .PNG format, also are you naming them right?

EDIT: Just tried the Halo one and it works fine.

You can't upload .bmp to imageshack. It automatically formats it to .png. You got it to work? All you did was right click and save as bitmap?

Me - All it gives me is a blank white background for both.

It does that for me too with some of mine. Just do it again and it should show up, once you change the date just press X twice and the background should show up.

...didn't really know how to explain it, hope you get it though.

EDIT: I made a tutorial for it out of boredom, so anyone that needs help..hope it helps and stuff..
Alright, I'm really bored (don't feel like playing games atm), and theres been alot of questions about it. So heres a tutorial :)
First and foremost THIS WILL NOT WORK ON 1.51 OR 1.52 AS OF NOW
Have your PSP connected to your PC via USB Connection.
1. Download this file and extract them to your desired location.

2. Create two folders on your PSP in the "PSP\GAME\" directory. One folder is called "PSPersonalize" and the other is "PSPersonalize%"
Now that the folders are created, you have to place the files in the folders :)

3. Open the folder (that you extracted from the .zip file earlier) called MS1, locate the file EBOOT.PBP (MS1 -> PSP -> GAME) copy this file to the "PSPersonalize%" folder on your PSP.

4. Now, open the MS2 folder and locate the other EBOOT.PBP file, copy this file to the "PSPersonalize" folder on your PSP.
The program should be able to be ran now from your PSP.

5. Now for the custom backgrounds, it must be under 150kb and in .bmp format otherwise it will not work (300 x 170). They must also be named correctly also. For example if you wish to remove the background for January, you will name the file "01.bmp" and for March you would name it "03.bmp" and so on for each month.
- You can get some nice custom backgrounds from here

6. Place the image in the root folder of your PSP meaning, if your PSP drive is designated to E: that is where you should put it. It should look like this after placing the files into the root folder.

7. Now all that is left to do is run the program, you will be prompted with something that looks like this for each picture you want to add. Press circle to replace the files.
Now you are done, and can remove the files from your memory stick if you wish.
I think everything is right up there, let me know if its wrong.
Sorry I'm late to the party, but I'm really lazy. Some of the lighter ones could use some darkening, but I don't care enough to do it myself.

Is there anyway to return the PSP to 1.5? I updated forever ago, just out of the habit of updating things... and now discovering all the cool things for the PSP and frustrated to learn nothing works with 1.51 :(

Thanks!

Do I need to make a game directory on my PSP? Like a new folder?

For the .bmp files? No they go in the root PSP folder (E:\ is mine)

As of now there is no way to downgrade your PSP firmware.

Right now, my background is this:

ROTS.BMP

I also use these from time to time:

STARWARS1.BMP

KHCOM2.BMP

MINISHCAP4.BMP

MINISHCAP3.BMP

(BTW, I made all of those. They aren't the best, but I think they look good when you put them on the PSP.)

I made a couple more. Some aren't that great, but some of them I really like how they came out (save as .bmp since imageshack automatically makes them .png):
