Shaun White Skateboarding (360) 11.99 @ Best Buy

Just about any game is worth $12. It's an almost offensively corny and commercialized game. In the game You are over throwing a supposedly fascist theocracy sort of group who forbids fun, gum chewing, and skateboarding. You do this by....skateboarding. So yeah, it's more than a little bit wanky. You also smash propaganda speakers and cameras which wakes people up from 'hypnosis' and makes them join your cause or wander around enjoying the fun you supposedly bring back to the city by skating. Also, doing skate tricks in an area brings bright colors (and Advertisements for Stride Gum) back into the world and makes real name brand ad posters appear on walls indicating how you've freed everyone's mind enough that they can appreciate crass commercialism.

You can steer certain skateboard ramps and make them grow into long green translucent skyways which is a little bit cool...I guess. The controls are pretty casual and trick/stunt based and based more on fantasy than real skating. Yes you can grind on rails for miles in this game and survive sixty foot drops or do thirty foot airs off of quarter pipe ramps.

If you can stand the cloying asinine story it's sort of like De Blob meets Tony Hawk.

I think it is definitely worth $12.

"freed everyone's mind enough that they can appreciate crass commercialism" --- I love that line!

Thanks for the thoughts --- I'll probably pick it up --- I'm a sucker for cheap games.

"Just About any game is worth $12".

I thought that when I first got my PS3, and loaded up on budget games. For the most part getting games for $10-12 (or less) will be worth it - it's usually worth a shot. But I've played a quite few that were definitely NOT worth $12, or even worth $5.

Coincidentally Sean White SNOWBOARDING is definitely one of those games for me that I regretted buying for even $9.99. It will forever be stuck at 1% on my trophy list as I eventually got rid of it for whatever pittance I could get back for it. I just didn't want it taking up space on my shelf. I don't know if this skateboarding game is any better, but with how much I hated the Snowboarding game I couldn't get myself to buy this for 11.99 even though I saw it in Best Buy the other day.

I too was a sucker for Shaun White Snowboarding, on Target clearance for $5 or $10-ish. I was hoping it would at least be as good as Cool Boarders on PSX, boy was I mistaken. Traded that sucker in fast.

The Skate games are where I'll continue my game skateboarding, unless someone brings a copy of THPS over for old time's sake.

Kudos to palaeomerus for the great post.

"Just about any game is worth $12"

this is one of the ones that isn't. Picked it up for $14.99 as a DOTD sale, was lucky to flip it for $28 at GS when they did their 50% boost trade-in deal a few months back. This game is horrid. I wouldn't pay any amount of money to ever own/play this game again and am ashamed that I thought it'd be decent.

Story aside, I thought the game wasn't too bad. A lot of people throw it out because they played the rightfully terrible SQ Snowboarding, but for $12, it could be much worse.

As long as you can get past the eye-rolling story bits, I think you can get your $10-ish worth out of it. I was surprised to find I'd spent over 6hr playing it when I first popped it into my 360; didn't even get up to use the bathroom.

But, man, that story... Sometimes it's easy to ignore stories that just don't really matter. Here, it's pretty in-your-face and actually could be enough of a roadblock that you'd be offput from continuing with the game.
