Should I buy a PC now or wait?

Steve Dave

CAGiversary!
Right now you get 10% off your purchase at Dell and I am thinking of getting one.

I don't know a lot about the PC market though, basically once I buy one I don't look at prices and such again until I need another one. So I am hoping that some of you more knowledgeable people will have some idea.

With it being close to Xmas should I wait for some Xmas deals or is the 10% about the best deal you are going to get?

Thanks.

10% that's it?

Normally you get what $200 off or something?

10% is crap.

oh and if you are in college or have friends in college normally you can get a better deal from Dell.

I think you should wait because I heard that in 6 months computer manufacturers are going to make an even better model than is available today.

I think dell normally has better % off deals, you should check some of the bargain sites like bensbargains. You might want to see what kind of Holiday sales there will be. Other than that there really isn't any reason to wait. Pretty much all the latest technologies are out, pci express, serial ata etc., dual cores are still a year away, and SLI mobos will be very expensive. Intel has released a new chipset pretty recently with all the latest. If you were going AMD you might want to wait for the Nforce 4 (about a month til they are available in mass), but since you will get a dell AMD isn't an option. You might as well pick one up in the next month or so, I don't think there is anything on the immediate horizon worth waiting for.

I'm suprised it took this long for a dumb ass remark. Good job people notice you now.

And then 6 months down the line from there, they will make something even better. It's a never ending cycle. Either you go and get one now or wait forever for the "even better" model.

Unlike consoles, it's very hard to keep up with the PC world, money-wise that is.

I say get something now but wait for a better deal at Dell. Those things can get dirt cheap with the right coupons. I say wait for the holidays to roll around and see what promotions they offer.

NEVER play the waiting game in computers. If you're ready to jump in...determine your price point, computing needs, and find your best deal and do it.

If you somehow get wind of a deal that will happen in a week...then by all means...wait for the deal.

But you'll NEVER get ahead in the computer market - no matter what you do. If you're just planing on doing basic internet, email, finances, and maybe some light gaming...a system well under $1000 will do (more likely closer to $500).

Bet bet is to jump in with someone that offers a Price Match system like BB or CC where you have 30 days to see if your system drops in price...

Otherwise...keep an eye on BensBargains.net for great deals on Dells and others.

"But you'll NEVER get ahead in the computer market "

Not looking to get ahead just wanting to find out if dell and gateway and such do Xmas deals?

Does Dell have the Super Fantastic Kick Your Ass Christmas deal every year two weeks before Christmas where all PC are free? If so I will wait, but if there really aren't any changes in price or deals for the Xmas season then I will just go with the 10% right now.

I never seen a good deal on a Gateway. Dell seems to raise their price when they give a percent off. For example, one computer was $950 one week and next week it was $1050 - 10%. They make it look like a better deal then it actually is.

I found a pretty good deal on a HP/Compaq at Best Buy. I think it was going on clearance because HP was bringing out a new line of computers.

When i looked at computers this summer (which is when i got mine), HP had the best deals online and in Best Buy. Circuit City seems to be more expensive for computers then Best Buy and other stores in town.

I checked with Gateway and Dell about student deals and they weren't that good. Had to spend to much money to get the student discount.

Dell-

You can not upgrade the power supply
You can not upgrade the motherboard
You can not upgrade the case

If you are willing to try to build- go to

www.newegg.com and look for components.

PM me if you want component advice, etc. I build computers for sale for a living, so I know what components you want for the best buy for the buck.

I haven't found anyone who says that I could build from scratch and have it be cheaper then the Dell.

Plus when I am ready to upgrade I can buy a new case and with be buying new mother boards and such to upgrade.

find somebody who runs a computer hardware store from his house (he/she can usually get you some cheap parts). build your own.

I am lucky enough to never have bought a dell or similar manufactured pc in my life. I saved hundreds of dollars and never had to buy an OS.

Um, does sarcasm ring a bell? Jeez, people have no sense of humor...

OK here goes... Hmmm, buy now or wait? If you need it then buy one - if not then wait - how's that? There's always going to be a better deal coming along so you can go crazy thinking about if now is the time to buy. I was lucky and got $750 off my Dell laptop but I don't think those deals come around too often...

So desperate to be seen that you can't even read the post, but hey I guess you are getting attention and that is all that matters right?
