Should I get a High School Graduation ring?
School pride is for Jocks...people that need to "fit in" to be liked...if you have to be like everyone else to feel liked and your so insecure that it helps you...then by all means buy one...after that you can go to AE and spen 150 on a shirt and pants and maybe if the socks are half off you could get a pair...you know...to top it off...
Lemme guess...you're a nerd who got your ass kicked daily by jocks? Don't be so predictable.

If I graduated from West Point or the naval Acadamy then I'd consider it, but High school rings are just a waste in my opinion (of course I'm not into jewelry at all, and would discourage anyone from wearing any for safety sake) Josten's jewlers is one of the biggest shams in High School (who's who is another)

Don't buy it, dood. I thought about getting one too, and then my dad talked me out of it. You're never going to wear it after graduation, it's way too much money, and if you do buy it, you'll end up selling later in your life and losing money. It's not worth it.

To hell with a class ring. How many people actually wear their high school class ring? Get one when you leave college. Or better yet, there's plenty of good shit linked on this site that you can blow a couple hundred dollars on instead.

mongo_mongo...I am not a nerd and I am still in High School...if any jock tried to mess with me...well...they know not too...I am an individual who believes in individualism and not fascism...I dont cling to trends like most people are swayed to do

If you have any kind of decent life ahead of you high school will soon become a place you only remember when filling out job applications. It's a checkbox in life. Anything really important in high school, like material you can put on a resume, doesn't come with a bill attached.

To me a HS ring just shouts out, "I peaked in my teens!"
I think High School will be the shittiest time in my life...dealing with shitty people...having to deal with violence and loud annoying people...I just hate it...I go to high school only so I can get out of it...
I forgot how immature high school kids really are, if you think high school is the worst time of your life, you must be walking yourself into free ownership of a business or something huh?

Oh yes and considering the question, to each his own i say. I sure wouldn't listen to the people on this site on weather or not to buy something. I didn't buy one, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't either.

I have much more fun working and doing hard labor than dealing with people at school...Id be much more willing to go and make straight A's if I was getting paid...I have a high work ethic for actual work but not school...I cant stand the place or the people...dont look down on me as inferior...You used to be my age...dont be an asshole

What do you mean, yes you are my inferior as i USED to be your age, and you aren't original by saying that school is sooo difficult. Unless you are already living on your own then you don't room to say anything.

believe it or not, not every person enjoys their high school years. i, for instance, absolutely hated high school. i won't deny that for many people high school may very well be the best years of their lives, but i would like to contend that people change the statement from "high school is the best years of your life" to "high school has the potential to be the best years of your life".

hating high school doesn't constitute immaturity, it constitutes not liking your classmates. life after high school definitely has the potential to be worse (especially if you equate responsibilities with life sucking), but it also has the potential to be better.

weather? so if its 70 degrees out he should or if its raining it shouldn't?

"don't listen to people but listen to me?" hey...if ya wanna break my b@lls gotta give back.

High School memorabilia is the lamest piece of shit ever created.

If you absolutely want to remember your school then take a picture and hang it on your wall. :puke:

I guess I phrased what i said wrongly, what i meant is that high school is a lot easier to deal with then life afterwards, unless of course you have inheritance. Having to pay tuition, rent/house payment, car insurance, gas, etc, plus, if you want to be ANYTHING in the future, doing all of this while going to school full time, is a lot more difficult then sitting around getting pampered in a public high school, working part time.

Heh, so you are going to take advantage of my errors to make up for what i said earlier? Whatever, man, i don't hold grudges, but if you want to go right ahead.

If you have something to say, say it, i know you don't but do it anyways. What are you trying to prove?

yawn==heard it before... so you are tired of hearing how 'immature high school kids are' and you don't think people should listen to folks in this forum..so basically why post here? On the one hand you state your opinion and then on the other you say how bad the opinions are on this site.

I never said i wasn't a hipocrit, which i am, is that better?

I even have a coffee mug that says "#1 Hipocrit"

 God damn, that made my day, i take back all the flames i said to you.

I loved high school. All the classes were so easy and there was plenty of time to simply sit around and chat up the cute girls in study hall. Then again, I may be romanticizing it a bit since I'm in my 3rd year of college, 18 credits, with like four accounting classes :(

I still didn't buy a ring, though. fuck that.

*Looks at crappy white gold ring sitting on desk that doesn't fit anymore and brings back memories of how much HS licked scrot*

Um, I guess if you REALLY like your school or gawdy jewelry go for it. Otherwise, save the money for college. YOU'LL NEED IT.

Yes a lot of high school students are immature. Which is exactly why I hated it. I'm not a fan of sitting around a group of annoying, perverted, stupid people. And I'm aware that I'll have to deal with people like that for the rest of my life, but never in a situation when they complain that if they aren't allowed to read the story out loud they wont be able to understand it.

I never bought a ring, nor did I ever even consider it. But if you have the money and you think you want one, then it can't hurt to get one.

well as many people say highschool kids are immature and blah blah blah,, but almost everybody you know was a highschool student at some point. Remeber some people treated highschool as a social ground.. some used to prepare for college... that alone provides different experiences... some may have loved it .. .some may of hated it...

but back to the topic

i don't think a ring really does anything but prevent you from buying some games. ( i loved highschool... but i didn't get or want a ring, didn't get a college ring either... my diploma's are good enough for me)

I dont think I'm getting one, but I do tend to make last second desisions, so its not a 100% thing. If I get one, I'm definently going to get the $70 piece of crap metal ring. And if I breaks, I can always get it fixed with the lifetime warrenty.

class rings are just a myth. they dont mean anything. you can get them without graduating even...

its all part of a big advertising plan between schools and jewelry makers to get money from you for something you DEFINETLY dont need, Prolly dont wants, and might never wear after graduation.

Hell, the only thing I have showing I graduated college is my framed diploma, and I care about my college degree worlds more than I care about graduating from High School.

Put bluntly, you have to be profoundly retarded not to be able to graduate from High School. It's shocking what you can actually manage to get out of school not knowing and still get a diploma

I don't think anybody could have said this in any better way, shape or form.

At first I wasn't sure if I wanted a class ring, but I got one anyway and looking back I'm glad I did. It's a symbol of all the fun times I had in high school (I'm guess I'm one of the few that didn't think h.s. was hell).

Going on to college should have no impact on buying a ring or not. Either way you will be out of high school. Going to classes at college or going right into the work force isn't going to have an impact on what the ring will mean to you one way or another.

My advice - If you are enjoying high school and don't mind spending the money, go for it. You'll value the ring a lot more when you're out of school for what it represents. If you think high school is a huge waste of your time then don't bother with a ring since you'll want nothing to do with your school the second you get your diploma.

Bah. I'm much more swayed by the idea of getting a yearbook and getting the yearbook signed. That is more symbolic of the time you spend there. The ring to me is just another garish oversized piece of bric-a-brac.

Actually, it may.
A High School education is going to mean a great deal more to someone who didn't get a batchelor's, master's or some form of doctorate.

My advice - If you are enjoying high school and don't mind spending the money, go for it. You'll value the ring a lot more when you're out of school for what it represents.

I still think a yearbook with inscriptions from friends is even more totemic of the High School experience.

That said, I still have all of my awards, trophies, commendations, newspaper articles, ROTC medals and ribbons, NHS stuff, SAT and ACT score sheets, etc.

I think the High School ring, however, is one of the least important pieces of memorablia that one could have.

I recently found my brothers college ring under my piano.. he never missed it. If you can go for months without missing something you don't need it.

I never wanted it and found it a waste of money, but my sis told me to get it, for memories. Got it for Junior High, found it to be completely useless. In HS I stuck with no, and am glad I didn't buy it.

I had one, but my high school ex-girlfriend kept it after the division of all of our stuff. I didn't realize until about two years later after she moved away. Oh well, I got a cheapo ring anyway (in true cheapass fashion)

no dont, highschool isnt as important as people make it out too be, highschool is the tip of the iceberg, all these highschoolers always brag about what they do after school or weekends or prom, it usually sounds like i went too a party and got wasted with drugs and booze ramble ramble im so cool, note that they do these things every once and awhile and make it out too be a huge deal, in college people do things like that everyday, wow that didnt relate too your topic at all, well in highschool i had fun like everyone else but never made a huge fucking deal out of it like they did, i never got a ring or anything my highschool offered me because it wasnt major and i would never look back and say wow because i knew college would be more of a milestone and it has been so far, I also didnt go too prom and I was offered 2 dates, so in closing highschool is no big deal save the money on the ring and the prom and everthing else, instead take your prom date out too some resturant then bang her in a sleezy motel a better way too use your highschool memorobilia money

This I don't think is true, I mean think of all the kids with year books full of love letters from old Girlfriends they now hate, or tons of friends that you lost touch with. Some random person saying

"NEVER CHANGE U R DA BEST KIT x0x0x"

doesn't really mean that much. But I can look at my ring, with my name on it and think about all the fun I had in my teens.

If put up to a vote, I hardly believe that your feelings would be the majority. Of course, memories and such are highly personal things, so if it work for you, go with it.

I didn't get a class ring and I'm very glad I decided not to. Otherwise it would just be sitting in a box or jewelry case right now.
I agree, a yearbook is money much better spent. It's been 12 years since I graduated high school and when I get together with old groups of friends we still take out the yearbooks from time to time and laugh our asses off.

Since everyone else lists what they got in HS. I have my 4 vasrsity letters from track, and the two dozen certificates of me breaking the shot put record. I still have all of the medals and trophys I won at track meets.

My class ring was over $200 (I just had to go for 14K gold  ). A big waste of money - the last time I wore it was at graduation. It sits in a shoebox now.
