i have wanted one for a while now, but now i have some cash. only enough to get a psp and maybe one game.

but what i am worried about is it possibly going on sale in coming months for the holiday. i know no one really knows, but when is usually the time something drops in price for the holidays? i am starting to see sales on games and i might even have seen a sale on the system a week or two ago.

i just dont want to buy one now and have it drop in price in 3-4 months.

i think i will eventually just buy one no matter what, so should i wait?

thanks, neurotic i know, but this is cheap ass gamer, right? :)

I seriously doubt there will be a price drop before Christmas.

They sell it at a loss (they make a large profit off of games which pays it off), so game sales have to reach a certain rate before a price drop can be considered.

So depending on summer sales (worst season) it may or may not drop for the holiday.

Or I could be totally wrong.

I recommend getting a refurbished one from GameStop ($199) and getting the 1 year warranty ($20) just in case. That should leave you enough cash to run over to Best Buy and get a game (using a $5 coupon of course).

I just bought my wife one of these PSPs because she became addicted to Lumines and wouldn't leave my PSP alone!

my point exactly.

and re: means refer to

Reowrr... I smell a very manly catfight coming on.

I read the topic. It never said anything about not being interested in a DS, just that you were interested in the psp.

Indeed. I was just giving him a (better) alternative. ;)

Wait for it... wait for it.. Yep, it's a cat fight! ;)

Back on topic, I'd wait for the PSP until at least november. No sense in buying something with no fucking games out worth playing in mass quantity.

I can't wait for Burnout Legends. :D

I'd probably wait a few months. I know Sony said that they wouldn't drop the price, but they're also behind their sales estimate. I'd expect a pack-in game at the very least by November. Also, memory will be cheaper by then. Cheers.

well i'd say get one now if your into homebrew because they already started shipping ones w/ updated firmware. If you dont care much about homebrew, then just wait until the launch title games do a drop because there isn't a whole lot out right now and most games aren't even worth it

I say just skip the PSP.. after a week or so... the WoW factor wears off.. then you just got a $300+ hardware waiting to be use...

I'll admit, with the lack of any really good games... my PSP hasn't been used for over 3 weeks now... and I'm thinking of picking a DS up for all the good upcoming games...

This is exactly dead-on. Lumines was fun and MGA was interesting, but since I refuse to shell out $20 for a PSP movie and the game selection sucks hardcore, I am in the market for a DS.

My thoughts exactly. If you don't what to hear about the DS post so in your topic title, instead of making yourself out to look like an ass.

And to answer your Q, get it now if you want, the price wwill not get any lower until the fall, that's a guarentee.

Well that logic is pretty flawed. If I make a thread about something I am looking to buy, I have to annotate it with a list of everything I am not looking to buy? I agree that bringing up the DS in a PSP topic is no big deal, but telling him to note something like that in advance? Silly.

I'm asking myself this same question right now as the OP. I just got a DS myself and I have a ton of credit built up at FYE. Is there a way to tell which firmware version the PSP is before I buy it?

I'm not trying to be an asshole, but I honestly have no idea what you intended to write here.

Are you being serious, or are you just plain retarded??? Seems like you're the one looking like an ass. ""should i get a psp *now*, and i don't want to hear about the ds, ps2, gc, xbox, ps1, gamegear, genesis, sega cd, atri...""... sounds like a good title doesn't it :applause:

Yeah, its pretty scumbaggy to start talking about the DS when the guy asked about the PSP and then try to tell him off for getting annoyed by it. Even if intentions are good, I think its pretty well known that mentioning the DS or PSP in the others board will get people acting a fool.

Though with that said, both are cool but get a PSP now lots of free stuff for it. :) Sony updates later might stop that or at least make it more difficult. Just make sure you get a decent warranty on it.

If you want a handheld that caters to your taste(Racing/Sports/Shooters) than the PSP is what you should buy now, even if it is made to self-destruct in a year. Don't wait, you must play that new madden game on your PSP and impress the 12-year old boy scouts.

Seriously, reconsider...I don't mean to bash...but the PSP has about 0 potential(unless you're a fan almost exclusively of the aforementioned genres).

I get the feeling you didn't read all of the posts on the first page. Don't worry, I wasn't referring to your post, pigeon. What you said was fine.

What about the select few that are doing both? ;) j/k

Personally, I like my PSP. Sure there's a lack of quality new releases, but between six games and all the emulation stuff, my PSP purchase is more than justified. Take a good look at the PSP's established library and upcoming releases (the ones that have actual release dates). Decide if you want one, then decide if you should get it now, as opposed to later on.

Likewise you should at least be aware of the alternatives, the DS not only has something different, it also has the backings of of the GBA library. It also has nearly half the coast, with significantly cheaper games. Though lacks the depth of the PSP library, as well as the 3-d capibilities, it offers something that's all it's own.

I'm not posting to play to one side or the other, simply bringing up both side's good points and letting you know what steps are neccersary in deciding what to buy, from a gaming standpoint.

As far as I'm concerned, Lumines and Ridge Racer have made my PSP completely worth it. I'm going to be playing those two for a while. And once I finish those, I have Darkstalkers and Wipeout to move on to. Eventually I'll get around to MGS:Ac!d. That's 5 games to keep me going until the next batch of stuff comes out. Really, the PSP had a great launch line-up, and I can't complain about what's available now. If you're interested and have the money, pick one up. I think you're going to see some longevity on this. Sony doesn't want to back down, and it's done pretty well so far.

don't get it, i finally found a buyer for my psp bundle... with like a bunch of games included, it sux dont buy it, only game i played lumines and ocasionally ridge racer... sorry to tell you the truth but you will get sick of it... and i'm really getting sick of the sh!tty games coming out for it.

picked up my psp at bestbuy yesterday and wipeout pure.

got a v1.5 with no pixel problems. pretty nice. i love it. i also picked up a pelican charger/usb cable at walmart for $5 if anyone is still looking for one of those. its nice, you can plug into power as well as usb, and not drain the bat as you upload emulators. :)

btw, does any one have some good settings for the genesis emulators, it runs very slow even with frame skip and 333MHz. but looks damn nice.

looking forward to virtua tennis, death jr, and frantix. :)

Nice to hear you made a choice and don't regret it.

As for your genny question: I don't believe they've worked out the kinks out yet, so there's no way to get 100% perfect emu, even with it set to 333 with no music.
