Should I preorder XB1 from BestBuy.com for pickup or delivery?

I don't mind waiting a few extra days for it to come to my house at all. However, I heard stories of major preorders being canceled when people ordered online for delivery, just without notice the day that it comes out they got an email apologizing and authorizing the full refund.

I really would prefer to avoid the crowds the night it is released, but if preordering online and doing in-store pickup as opposed to delivery guarantees that I have one with my name on it on launch weekend then I'll deal with the crowds. Do they receive a stock of non-reserved consoles and then an exact amount of the ones that were preordered? Or do they draw from the same stock and just hope it works out. I preordered a game a long time ago (4-5 years ago, things may be different), and I remember that they did not have my copy the day after it came out because they sold it, so they drew from the same stock.

I just don't want to throw down $500 and have my money sent back to me because they are backordered, or do in store pickup for $500 and then not get it after waiting in line.

store pickup, it is much more easier, and for those who wanted to have it at day, or worry about the deliveries being stolen. but there is risks for both pickup, and delivery. Whether it be missing delivery, or damaged during delivery. Or you order is not ready/set aside for you at pickup.

I preordered via store pickup from Best Buy, the people at Best Buy told me not to do it online because they get "messed up a lot".

The girl at the register said if they don't have enough for me at launch they will call me a few days before and tell me when mine will be ready for pickup. Which really takes the point out of a preorder reservation.

Its a small Best Buy, my buddy who works there told me to preorder now because they sold out of their first batch of preorders, and this is their second batch and they probably will not get any more.

my best advice, if you preorder for in store pickup, is on the release date of the console. call the local bestbuy store you had set store pickup at, to confirm if they actually have it ready for you. Instead of wasting your time/money going there, and the store not having it. Don't trust them, bestbuy rarely ever calls you, if there is problem with your order. they always contact you by email. with limited edition bundle, they sell out fast. sometimes you have them available on release date, because of extra stock.

Excellent tip! Thanks man! I'm just worried about calling Best Buy and them saying "oh yeah you'll have your console", but they don't even check, like most stores do.

I live maybe 5 minutes away so its not a big deal for me :]

if that is the case, i would advise to show up early release date to pick it up, before someone else takes your preorder console, since it is a limited console bundle. They will not be many preordering at the same store as you. the good chances are, you might be the only who preordered at the store. It is based on my experience preorder collectors edition from bestbuy. i am basically the only one , who preordered.
