Should I reformat my new 3DS XL?

I just picked up a used 3DS XL from somebody on Craigslist. I want to get all their junk/info off of it and start out new like it just came from the box.

Should I use the format option, or will this wipe all the base software from it too?

What base software will be missing? Besides swapnote you don't need any software just wipe it.

Okay, I just didn't know if it would dump things like Face Invaders. I want to get rid of everything like the previous owners Miis and account settings.

Are there any games on the system? There is no account as everything is tie to the system.

Only demos. All the games on it are ones that are on it from the factory I think.
