I bought a 80 gb phat ps3 back in december 08'. But i got offered a brand new 160 gb ps3 (no bundle) for for the price of $210. some of the reasons i thought about upgrading is because i heard the slim is a lot more efficient and has less hardware failure, compared to the phat. I mean i hardly play my ps3. I would estimate that I play video games it an hour at most bi-weekly, little bit more or less. although i do use it for blu-ray frequently. is it worth the upgrade? i could always sell my mint ps3 on craigslist.

I think given your usage, why drop another $195?

I have the same 80G (320G HDD now), BC unit. Probably play about 8 hrs a week. Play a few PS2 titles (which the slim won't IIRC). I'm not even thinking about getting a slim.

if you consider it an upgrade, then maybe. I don't so that's why I wouldn't go through the hassle. And you know for sure you'll get $185 for it? I'm not familiar with the used console market but it seems a bit high.

It seems to go for that much for my local craigslist. I could throw in something free (like HDMI cable, some cheapo ps3 game, which I can buy online for cheap anyways)

(moved from ps3 forum. Sorry mods. I think I will get more feedbacks from here)

The 80 fats without BC are a lot more reliable than than the 80 fats that had BC. Not sure which one you have but that's info that might be useful.

If you don't decide to go through with it, go ahead and refer me to your friend, because i'd probably be willing to buy it if you aren't.

It's an excellent deal for a non-PS3 owner, but since you have one already it's a bit of a tougher call. Personally, if I were you I'd keep the one I have. You said that you don't really play that much, so it's not exactly essential. The changes aren't really worth it; and the failure rate isn't all that much lower.

If you do get a new one, you should do the data transfer before you get rid of your old one. Otherwise, the copy protected save files won't transfer.

But I agree with the others, you should keep the money and use it for games or something.

Why would you spend $210 to "upgrade" a perfectly working system that you rarely play? If you want a larger hard drive, spend

all right thanks the suggestion you guys. although im not really losing anything much here if i do sell it (ASSUMING all my plans fall through if i do do it)

Buy a new PS3 when yours breaks...which will be like never. Seriously my 60 gig launch model still is running like a champ. I wouldn't worry about your system failing anytime soon.

My launch is fine, but I hardly use and and want to keep it due to the BC. Can always add in more HD space, which I have already done once.

OP, you didn't move it from the PS3 forum, you just made a new thread in here.

I've merged both your threads, so now it's really moved from the PS3 forum.
