Sid Meier's "Pirates" $12.50 Target Clearance (YMMV as usual)

Advocatus

CAGiversary!
Sid Meier's Pirates $12.50 Most stores do not have it clearance priced yet. Check the scanner, if it says cannot find price on clearance items, it's a go

I made a new thread, because most places still have this full price.
This is also in the Target clearance thread

This was in Plymouth Meeting, PA. Don't bother checking there now.

My brother reported (Columbus, OH) went to his target and found the box, still labelled $49.99. He took it to the price scanner and it said something like, "Cannot find price on clearance item"... so he took it to the registar. There is some difficulty getting the 12.50 to come up, but if it's market clearance it should be.

Good luck.

Edit: To Add, my box has a sticker on the bottom that says, "As Is Was $49.99 Now $12.48" The box was in perfect unopened condition.

I tried to get it last night since it scanned as 'Item Not Found' but got denied. I'm pretty sure someone tried it earlier because the woman ringing my games up was acting like a queen bitch when I told her that it might be on clearance since it's not in the system.

Had massive failure with this yesterday. In both stores the scanners didn't have a price, but they wouldn't give it to me on discount.

In Exton, PA, the clerk just pointed to the shelf price when he couldn't find it any other way. In Wilmington, DE, I started by saying my friend had found it on clearance. After the clerk tried all the normal routes, he asked me to show him it on the shelf. He then went back to the register, typed some stuff in, and definitively said it was $49.99. Yeah right. He seemed slightly drugged though...so maybe I'll try again later with a more alert clerk. It doesn't seem like either store is open-minded enough to just believe me and lower the price. So I ask: some people (including OP) had success finding a "real" price in the system eventually -- how did you/the clerk do it??

dumb question, anyone who has it, do you think it would run well on a:

1.6 pentium
with geforce 3 ti (T&L)
256ram
50x cdrom
40x cdburner

Reason I ask is that I have had rotten luck with pc games lately, almost swearing off them for console games exclusively, they are just to problematic to troubleshoot, especially when companies will release crap that dont run out of the box........
that being said, I can run seadogs one just fine and absolutely love the game.......

I got that in Plymouth Meeting, PA, not far from Exton. You might offer talking to a manager and having them call the electronic's department at the Plymouth Meeting story (Chemical Road). I don't think anyone will remember but that is the department it was clearanced in. I thought that was weird. It was on an endcap with a few other games (crap) and electronics (cheap CD player, cell phone belt containers). It wasn't with the other software clearance in the media section (CDs/DVD/Software)
I was talking about BF:V.

the Target by TTC has two copies and the one near green rd. has one. If my friend is working tomorrow I may see if he can hook me up at the one near Greend Rd.
I went to the one at TTC this morning and both copies were still there. Talked to the guy working there and asked him if it was possibly on clearance. He walked off to talk to some manager I guess, and when he came back he said they would sell it for 9.99.

Works for me. I left the other one there in case you wanted it, or for anyone else.

I may go snag it. I bought Far Cry yesterday and am getting Battlefield 2 today so I do not know if I would have time to play it.

No dice at the Tri-County location in Cincinnati. The cashier got a manager who did a bunch of typing into a computer and came up with 49.99. They had three copies left.

First Target had no copies. Second Target wanted to charge me 49.99(I did get a copy of World of Warcraft Collectors Edition for 19.99 though). Third target I got a copy for 4.96 so all and all a good haul today. The guy who was head of the price team or whatever they are had a differn't hand scanner then the others though that's how I got it for 4.96.

"Good" is an understatement. WoW CE for $20, impressive.

I checked a Target on my way home from work today to snag a copy for a friend (I've had Pirates since it came out) and it wouldn't ring up. So after waiting for them while they passed it around for a while trying on their own I brought up that I'd heard it was on discount. They disappeared for a while longer and came back saying it was 29.99. I passed.

No dice for me at the Rego Park Target in Queens, NY. No price on the scanner, brought it up front. The cashier says, "Oh this has no price in the system." I helpfully say that it is on clearance for 12.50, but she says she can't sell it to me. Calls electronics and they tell her that it is $49.99, so I passed.

No WoW collector's editions either :(

Just got back from the Target in Machesney Park, IL and they had four copies. I scanned one and the usual Price Not Found message came up. I'll stop by later to see if I can get it cheap, if any one wants a copy let me know in the next 3 hours and I'll try and snag an extra or two. Ideally I would like to trade for Far Cry but I'm sure something can be worked out if that option does not present itself.

according to the box, min requirements are:
1 ghz processor
256 mb ram
64 mb video (direct x9.0c or higher)

so you might be able to run it depending on your video card

I don't think it bombed, and this deal seems like it might be a screw up by Target. It's still $49.99 everywhere else.

$20 for WoW CE!?! Im green with envy here!!! Good job!

I think i fit the requirements, then. I went during lunch to two targs, and the first had none (rio in gaithersburg, md) and then rockvilles new one. They had 5 copies, and only one had that as-is sticker and it said home theater 6.26........and the box was just a little squished, but not really, just enough to put a small kink in the box, nothing bad by any means. I asked if I could get the better box for it instead, they said that was why it was discounted....sheesh.
I could tell that just rolled out of her mouth without really thinking....kinda funny really, makes me feel not so bad about the excuses I come with for returns, when i find cheaper prices on stuff.
the idiots that just come up with stuff on the fly to BS customers is ridiculous, I might just have to kink up a box to get a discount then....jk.
anyway said fine i'll take the one with the sticker, no prob here, verified if something wrong with it, i can exchange it right? yup. he kept looking at it like it must be a mistake................
thanks OP....gonna give this a try.....also might check the games site, to see if there are any issues with the game that are major problems......igi2 had a slew of probs, and true crime didnt work for me either.......kept asking for original disc and i had it. Kionda sad, had to download a cd crack to run the game that I owned.
It looks like this one is a ymmv as it doesnt seem all targs do the same discount, they are in the same ball park, but not matching by any means.

yeah, this really seems like a mistake, but hey, i cant complain, ive been waiting for this game to drop for awhile, i just didnt expect it to be this much

I got one for $5.00 at the Ann Arbor Target (clerk thought it was $19.99 and marked it down 75%) and one for $12.48 at the Ypsilanti Target (75% off of $49.99). If anyone wants one for about $9+shipping, let me know. Also picked up Duel Masters for $4.98, doubt that's a deal tho.

I mean, does anyone know if this is one of those quality games that works on a lot of machines, like say need for speed series, most ea games, or is anyone having headaches getting it installed? and running.?
I checked the site at atari and doesnt seem to be alot of complaints or problems..........(a good sign)
usually if a game bites, you will see people complaining about direct draw errors, cd copy protection being too strict, etc., need 14 patches just to play it, cause it was unplayable out of the box......( I remember klingon honor guard was unplayable unless you got the 18 meg patch, sad)good game, but sad.
I just want to see if anyone with a similiar config as mine, has had luck running it, at all.

1.6gig
256 ram
geforce 3ti (t&l)
40x cdrom

I know i exceed the requirements on the box, but I always take them with a grain of salt........they are usually not too accurate, and possibly printed up way before game went to final production.

Tried two Targets (Brooklyn Park & Brooklyn Center), no luck. At both Targets they scanned it and it came up as not in the system, but both times the employee ended up looking at the price tag and declared the game $50. Ah well. I'll probably stop by the BP Target again in a couple of days to see if anything's changed, otherwise I'll just keep an out for it at Half Price Books.

I'll have to try the Target across from my CC.... maybe I'll be lucky. ;)

And ZMan... if they have two, I'll score one for you too so you'll be secured a cheapy copy.

Fitz,

I got the game yesterday and installed it on my pc:

1.8GHZ P4
256M Ram
GeForce 3TI 200
48X CDRW drive

It installed fine. You need disk 2 in the drive to play the game, not disk 1. There's a S/N that you need to enter and it's on the inside cover of the manual.

The default setting is 800x600. I only bumped it up to 1024 x 968 (I forget the 2nd number) and it works fine. I have not added on the 7.8 Meg patch that you can download from their site. The game runs fine for me. Only thing is you must remember (when you are at sea) to hit F10, and then click on a slot to Save otherwise the game only has autosaves at major events. I did not see where I could set up my character in terms of what his special talent would be, nor where I could set the level of the game. It defaults to Apprentice which is fine for starting out.

The game is a blast. Reminds me of the original Pirates that I played on a CGA 4 color monitor then later i upgraded to a VGA monitor (whoa). It's very easy (at this level) and very addictive. Before I knew it I had been playing for 2 hours and only been at sea for about 6 months.

You may want to try bumping up the graphix, I'n not that big a graphics hound, but at the levels I have it its working seamlessly (well there was one studder when a storm came through on the game) Neat when you ride through or near a storm moving across the carribbean, your ships speed increases with the increased wind.

You should have a lot of fun with this one - I don't know why it dropped in price, cuz its a great game.

thanks alot borg for your insight, looks like we have comparable machines, and same gcard, I think. You got a little edge on processor, and I am fine trying 800 by 600, its actually easier on my eyes and improves frame rate, most times. Will give this a shot once I get home tonight. I used to play thief alot and if you crank it up, to 11 by 7 or 12 by 9, it screws up the onscreen icons for your weapons to the point you cant hardly see hem, or read anything. (want to talk addicting, thief is addicting, especially at night, lights out, you actually start leaning around your monitor, like it is a wall or something.)
I love seadogs, but always had a hard time capturing ships, although thoroughly enjoy trying..........sometimes it was fun to go way out in the shipping lanes, where it is considered dangerous, and see whats out there........the event screen pops up and 4-7 military ships show up, and you know you are screwed, but it will be damn fun to watch the ship get trashed........................
This sounds like a much more robust version of that, with more well rounded game play..........more to do.
This is great to have a place to sound out a question and someone responds with just what you were looking for...........thanks again.

I just picked up my copy today for 4.99. They didnt look anything up...she just put her register light on...and then a manager came and asked what the problem was and the girl told her...and she said 4.99 sounds good. I was like holy shit...ill get it. Too bad it was the last copy and it was hidden. This was at the Plymouth/Kingston, Mass. store.
Holy smokes. I was just at Target this afternoon and they had Pirates on the shelf but marked for $50. With no clearance tag I didn't bother to have it scanned.

At least I picked up Battlefield Vietnam for five dollars.
Hehe, same. I was just there. Damn, oh well.

Picked one up for $5.99. Thanks OP, I was a big fan of the old version so I'm looking forward to trying this out.

My Target (Sterling Heights) had one copy left, unmarked in any way.

They wouldn't sell it to me because they couldn't find a price. :bomb:

But on the bright side? They told me that they're going to check the price with other stores, and that I should be able to buy it within the next three days. A lot of work for the game, but I'm thinking it'll be worth it in the end...

i failed.
they had 3 games in santa maria, ca. all marked 49.99 with no clearance sticker. when i took it to the register, he scanned it - nothing. took out his hand scanner - nothing. called the manager - the manager said the game is "recalled" probably because it was on clearance but now it isn't anymore. so they refused to sell them, even if i wanted to pay $50.
crap.

I tried the Target Greatland in Sawgrass Mills and the SuperTarget in Lauderhill, FL today. Pirates didn't ring up as anything in both of them, but I couldn't convince either store to give me the game for a clearance price, only the $49.99 price on the damn shelf.

I managed to pick up the last copy of Battlefield Vietnam from the SuperTarget though. $9.99 for that one.

And I REALLY envy you guys that are getting this ultra-cheap WoW Collector's Edition. I had to go to 5 different stores back in December just to FIND ONE, and for full price at that.

I went to 3 Targets today, One hand scanned it @ $49 after it came up item not found. Item not found at another, but they wanted the shelf price of $49 even though I asked them to hand scan it. The other was $49 at the price check. I did get a copy of the non-GH Star Ocean 3 for $19.99, so it wasn't a total waste.
I did get a copy of the non-GH Star Ocean 3 for $19.99, so it wasn't a total waste.
Me too, but I should have gotten the GH at BB for $10.

No more for jPoD??? :(
Picked it up for $5.99 today. Good luck to others in trying to get a copy of this game. Thanks OP.
Are you kidding me??? damn man

No luck here in any Vegas Targets. While it wouldn't scan, they just called in to ask the price.

Still $49.99. :(

I have a feeling this is going to be one of those PC games I'll literally play all night long, which is good because it's been too long since I've seen the sun rise.
My box had a sticker on the bottom that said,

I got that in Plymouth Meeting, PA, not far from Exton. You might offer talking to a manager and having them call the electronic's department at the Plymouth Meeting story (Chemical Road). I don't think anyone will remember but that is the department it was clearanced in. I thought that was weird. It was on an endcap with a few other games (crap) and electronics (cheap CD player, cell phone belt containers). Yes, I've been to the Chemical Road Target once or twice (it's worth the drive b/c that's IKEA territory!) -- won't bother checking it this time. ; ) I'm totally not surprised the game was clearanced in Electronics. In the stores I know, all clearance video games are with the electronics and all clearance computer software is in the cd/dvd section. Today I plan to take a copy of Pirates plus any other $4.98 clearance title to an actual cashier instead of the department clerk, and see if they'll give me both for that price point. If I succeed, I can always return the random title! If Pirates is a no-go, I'll just back out of the the other one too. Too bad I bought the only $4.98 title I actually want on my trip the other day. Doh!

Looks like this deal is dead now at my Target in CT. I stopped by and did a scan of the printed out barcode and it now shows up as $49.99.

Good luck to any who find it.

I'm having fun with the game. The swordfighting is tough and I'm only in the journeyman level. And forget about the dancing - you need to get the calfskin boots before you embarass yourself on the dancefloor.

Great game - lotsa fun!

Thanks again to the OP for the heads up!

i stopped by target this morning because i saw alot of you guys asking to pick up copies, there were 3 copies but they scanned at 49.99 =o\

sorry
