Hi everyone. Not a fantastic deal but Amazon has Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Wii at $40.48 with FSSS. I haven't seen it cheaper anywhere yet and it doesn't seem to be dropping as fast as I would have expected.

Thanks but Nintendo has convinced me to wait for all 3rd party titles to drop to 20 or less since the 1st party stuff keeps taking all the market share.

Finally sold my Wii and all Wii related gear yesterday for 470 bucks. Picked up Shattered Memories FINALLY for the PSP yesterday for 25. Can't wait to play it. Still a healthy amount of skepticism considering it's a remake with no combat.

This is exactly what I am waiting on too.

Wasted to much money on Madworld, NMH, etc just to see them drop to $20 in 2 months.

Im sort of amazed to see the great reviews. I read mostly what its about and it almost seems odd. No combat, just running? Everything is snowing?

Im a big fan of Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 like most. But it still sucks to me that they havent been able to make a true 4th good game in the series.

That being said anyone can fill me in more about what Shattereds story is? They way someone explained it to me is that is basically the first game all over again but with snow and running? Or do we have a whole new story line here?

The way I understand it, the set-up is the same as the first game. Enter Silent Hill, looking for missing daughter. But after that everything branches, although some familiar faces/names show up in different contexts. You'll have to wait a week or two for me to get my copy before I can get into more specifics.

I did my duty and bought NMH2 and Capcom vs at near full price for the Wii. This is one of those games I wanna get but I see it for $20 or less by Christmas.
SH:SM was amazing. Utterly fantastic.

That said, I'm holding for $30 for my own copy.
I agree with both facts presented.

Homecoming is a lot better than people give it credit for. It's got damn fine combat, but is very weak in the subtlety and atmosphere.

Survival horror combat is generally crap, and restoring from a checkpoint when you die is the opposite of scary. SH:SM's chases are in every way attempts to simulate a nightmare where you're being pursued. They work wonderfully even if you get lost a lot and can't easily whip out the map.

Bears NO relation to the other games' plots apart from references. It takes place in it's own continuity, but, yes, after a car accident, Harry Mason is lost in Silent Hill, looking for his missing daughter. Half the city is blocked off due to a freak snowstorm. Many, MANY subtle events change based on how the game profiles you by what you stare at, the choices you gravitate toward, and the periodic therapy sessions that seem to take place after the game. Gotta say that the therapist character is dynamic, imposing, insanely well-written, and just a blast. The best character in the game by MILES.

He made me answer questions I wouldn't want to answer in front of other people, and then made comments about my sex life that made me want to cry.

Ok thanks. I was more hoping a company didnt just take the first game and sorta make their own "mod" of it. Same everything with tweaks.

Hmm price went up a bit then. The other day it was at $39.00 from Amazon with FSSS or Prime. I almost got it, but decided to hold out a bit longer.

I picked this game up for the wii at full price and still don't regret it. While it seems like most 3rd party wii titles drop in price fairly quickly, I think it was a safe bet that games like no more heroes, madworld, and HOTD overkill dropped in price very quickly. None of those games have mass market appeal, and are violent adult games on what is considered a 'kid friendly' console. Even though silent hill is also a violent adult game, its also from a established franchise, in the popular survival horror genre. I have a feeling this game is actually not going to drop in price as fast as others are saying.

As for the game itself, it only shares some minor similarities with the first silent hill, namely that a guy named harry is looking for his daughter in the town of silent hill. The town itself is completely different, as are the reasons for everything going wrong. The gameplay is vey intense, and quite scary. There is no combat in the game (at least in the typical sense), but that doesn't mean you can't die. The game is roughly split into 3 overall segments. Psychiatry sessions with the Dr. where he (the game) psycho analyzes you (which changes the game based on your actions and how the game profiles you), exploration segments where you search for your daughter and gather clues about the town, and the nightmare segments where 'hell freezes over' and you are pursued and must escape with your life. As another member said, the nightmare segments do an excellent job of being intense and scary since you don't have any option to try and fight. As far as graphics go, this is the nicest looking wii game I have ever seen. You aim Harry's flashlight with the wii pointer, and it responds extremely well. The game runs at a fairly consistent 60fps, and has really nice texture work, and original use of the wii remote. CEHCK IT OUT! if any one else has any other questions about the game feel free to ask.

I'm on the fence on Shattered Memories. Take off the Silent Hill title, change some names, and it wouldn't be a bad stand-alone. I'm a Silent Hill fanboy, and I do also wish more than anything that the original Team Silent could come back and end the series. I don't think I've wanted anything more than that. Regardless, Akira Yamaoka and Suda51 working on a new title together is also good enough for me.

This is how I always explain it: Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill 4 are comparable to Resident Evil - Code Veronica. Homecoming and 0rigins is more along the lines of Resident Evil 4 and 5 (not in terms of quality, but an overhaul of the mechanics and gameplay). Although Silent Hill 4 may not be of the same calibur as Silent Hill, Silent Hill 3, or the amazing Silent Hill 2, it still FEELS like a Silent Hill game. Homecoming and 0rigins are more survival action with familiar locations.

As much as people may hate it, I will always love the controls on the first four games, along with the original Resident Evil games. It's survival horror... You're supposed to feel a sense of dread and intensity, and a control scheme that doesn't feel like butter adds to the tension. It may piss you off, but it takes getting used to to really conquer the hard parts.

As for Shattered Memories, it's not bad. It's interesting. It's kind of tense. The snow and ice and cold is a nice touch and something different, and (I don't see this as a spoiler since it starts at the beginning) the psychiatrist parts are actually really awesome. But... I'm still just praying we could get the original Team Silent back for one more game. One more.
Shattered Memories is a great game, but it's pretty short, so I do think $40 is a bit much...
I guess I would also agree with this. While I said I paid full price and didn't regret it, 40 dollars is still expensive for such a short game, although there is some incentive to play through the game a second time and see how it differs with different answer to the psych. evaluations. I never really played the other silent hill games, but from what I understand this game is pretty much a complete departure for the series other than some similar core elements, and Akira Yamaoka's soundtrack. For those on the fence, I would recommend waiting for a little while longer till the game drops to 30.
