I still don't know which one to get so please help me decided. If you can suggest a model to buy that would be great too. I'd prefer something i can use in my car and easily move into my house. Thank you in advance

Update: I think i've decided on a portable one i can use everywhere sporadic that portable one looks awesome i might get that one so right out of the box i can listen to it in my car at home or anywhere else as a portable device? any other suggestions for a portable one similar to this?Does sirius have one like this around the same price? Can i use this with my stereo even if it says Sirius on it?

Thanks again to everyone :)

Okay so should i get:
Delphi MyFi XM2GO Portable XM Satellite Radio Receiver with Home / Car Kits $145
Tao xm2go Portable Satellite Radio Receiver with Home and Car Accessory Kits $100

Update: I decided on sirius i like their music more and that they don't have commercials. it had nothing to do with sports or howard stern. I wanted a portable one so i decided on the s50 it comes with the car kit and i'll buy the home adapter later. I got it at best buy for $179.99 and it has a MIR for $100 what do you guys think?

Also anyone that posted before this update (which is 1:40pm) I really appreciated your help so if you'd like update your first post and I'll randomly pick someone and give them a free game, nothing great okay i'll let you pick from like 3 things I'll chose the winner saturday night thanks again for all your help :)

I have SIRIUS but it will depend on the content you want to hear. I think the music is better on SIRIUS and I am a fan of Howard Stern. I am a sports fan so Football and basketball is big too ... I have a SIRIUS One receiver - it is cheap and works well in and out of the car.

I'm a fan of XM.

The music seems like a good departure from mainstream radio while the comedy channels and Ron and Fez are just icing on the cake.

Honestly, you should just check out the free online trials and decide for yourself.

If you decide on XM, Amazon is having a sell on the Tao portable units for only $99.99. So not only would you have XM in your car and home but on the go too.

I Agree with gcurbelo, I have Sirius and for me it seems its more genre driven and I get a better selection, my wife has XM and I find that I'm switching all the time. I like the Sirius Sportster Replay
I like all kinds of music not big on howard stern or sports but i like all the info you gave me :) thank you
If you're not big on howard, XM is the obvious choice, their playlists tend to be deeper (less repetitive on non hit music channels). Not to mention the Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour is also a great show, and an XM exclusive.

sporadic that portable one looks awesome i might get that one so right out of the box i can listen to it in my car at home or anywhere else as a portable device? any other suggestions for a portable one similar to this?

XM has Tao XM2Go, MyFI, Inno, Helix, Airware, and SkyFi3(Altho it's mainly meant for vehicle/home use). www.myradiostore.com has a list of all the portable ones. Some have reviews linked on product page by the store owner.

Sirius has the Stiletto. :\

I love XM myself. I do what has Kfoster1979 said, I do surf around a bit but it's mainly cause there's a lot of other choices that are good that I don't need to hang at any one station for long. Except XM 202 for O&A and R&F.

Yeah, right out of the box it comes with a home kit and car kit.

The only portable Sirius units I know of are the S50 (http://www.amazon.com/Sirius-S50-Po...r_2/002-1467030-5296813?ie=UTF8&s=electronics)

and the Stiletto SL100 (http://www.amazon.com/Sirius-Stilet...s_1/002-1467030-5296813?ie=UTF8&s=electronics) and both are pretty pricey.

Yeah, you can use the XM unit on a stereo that says Sirius on it. It just won't be integrated like a Sirius would be.

You would use the controls on the unit itself.

After traveling in several rental cars with XM and Sirius, I would go with XM.

XM is the best choice for music. Sirius is very repetitive with their music playlists.

For me, I am a big baseball fan and XM has the best baseball coverage.

Personally, I highly doubt there will be two satellite radio companies by the end of the decade.

I'm all about my Sirius radio, my vote is for that. (I don't know much about any receivers though, so I won't even confuse you with my two cents on that.)

*Edit* Nice pick on the Sirius.

Sirius has a new portable unit out called the Stilleto. I enjoy Sirius more then XM having tried the free trial for both. The music channels seem a bit better on Sirius as do the exclusives (sports, news, NPR, Stern, etc). If you're into baseball, XM is the way to go, but it seems like a bit of a sinking ship in terms of adoption rate, but that could mean you're looking to get better deals with XM. Anywho, you won't be unhappy with either.

They are basically the same thing from my understanding. I've read that he MyFi has a slightly better antennae thou. That said I dont' have problems picking up reception unless I'm in the woods so I'd go Tao.

The TAO, the MiFi, and the Pioneer Airwave are all the same hardware, but just inside a different chassis.

The TAO XM2GO rocks. Built in fm transmitter, recieves live content while docked or freestanding [pending a signal of course], records up to 5 hours of content.
We had one and loved it...till some scumbag stole it out of our car.
Definitely check out the free trials--we like XM better, but they're both great. And there's more and more hardware now; I haven't kept up, so I don't know the new stuff, though I think sirius actually has a truly 'portable' unit out now.
Check out www.xmfan.com for lots of discussion on XM.
XM"s music library is allegedly deeper, with fewer replays.

as an associate of best buy that sells these all day and have had both i would go sirius its the one i prefer but heres the main differences
sirius:
commercial free still
howard stern
football, basketball, hockey, in 2007 nascar
uncensored music
maxim radio
playboy radio

xm:
starting to get commercials
ron and rez
baseball, hockey, and golf
and there are only 7 channels uncensored

and just in case u were wondering sirius is more popular

Sirius is the way to go.

You have commerical free music
Uncensored content, while XM only has 7 channels.
Howard Stern, and the Howard Channels
The NFL (every game, normally the home and away broadcast)
Nascar radio, which is a 24/7 station, plus 10 incar audio stations where you hear the race, but when the crew talks ot the driver and visa versa, you hear that over the race audio.
Playboy radio
Maxim Radio

and the Sirius Stellito is an amazing peice of hardware, live portable Sirius content, and, if your in a building or something, and you cant get signal, you can sync with the Wi fi and get it streamed through that.

The few channels on XM with commercials were licensed from Clear Channel, and it was CC that added the spots, XM kept the channels due to subscriber demand. Still XM has more commercial free channels when compared with Sirius (this accounts for the large difference in total number of channels).

Also as far as Playboy radio, it was so bad that XM dropped it early in 2005.

I have Sirius and I listen to:

Stern
Bubba the Love Sponge
NFL
NCAA Football/BBall
English Premiere League Soccer
NBA
Jim Breuer Unleashed
NHL
plus Faction, and all the music I like.

They are getting Nascar this year(not my cup of tea)

my parents have XM, they have good programming as well.. Kornheiser, etc. I'd never buy XM for Baseball

Sirius is GREAT. Stern is so damn funny these days, but it depends what you like. Do you want it for music mainly?

Also, SIRIUS has a portable unit, the new Stiletto is a great product, I hope to get one one day. It also works on wireless technology.

Signing Howard Stern may go down as one of the great media blunders in history, and what ultimately will kill Sirius. They very much overpaid for him, and they're realizing it now as they continue to lose money and XM is still out pacing it in subscribers. Part of it, of course, is that XM simply has the better name--similar to HD-DVD over Blu-Ray. It won't win the battle, but it certainly helps.

In the long run, the two will have to merge in some fashion. There simply aren't enough people willing to pay for radio to keep both afloat.

wtf are you talking about? XM has been out there longer and is in more vehicles than Sirius.. Sirius is putting a dent into XM.. that is why XM had to get Clear Channel involved.

I don't know where you got your information. By the most conservative estimates, Howard Stern is bringing in approximately $240 million per year in subscriber revenue alone. The actual figure is most likely quite higher. Hardly a blunder.

As for XM out pacing Sirius in subscribers, in the last quarter XM added 285,000 subscribers. In the same quarter Sirius added 441,000 subscribers. And those figures have been the trend.

I'm really surprised by how Howard Stern is mentioned so much in the debate between sirius and xm...I don't see how people would go that way just because of him, I'm still trying to decided but it really has nothing to do with him, but that's just me..

Is his radio show the same thing as the tv show? Just him getting as many porn stars to take their clothes off as he can? What i'm asking is why is Howard Stern so great?

Going by how his E! show looks, you'd think it's all porn actors and stripers, but it isn't. They just put that stuff on because they think it's what viewers want to see and makes good TV. I listen to his Sirius show almost every day and there is great variety in it. Awesome guests and interviews (Borrat was there in character a couple weeks ago), lots of talk about current events, and tons of funny bits (the phony phone calls are my favorites).

Plus they have Master Tape Theater, which are complete & uncensored playbacks of his old shows from his terrestrial radio days.

it's not just him though.. he has 2 channels.. Bubba the Love Sponge, Ferrall, plus all the original content they create with Riley Martin, Miserable Men with Bob Levy, Jim Florentine.. Mastertape theater with all their historic content, etc. it's good stuff..to me, I'm into NFL channel, Jim Breuer unleashed is great plus there are so many things on these stations..

i have a question to people who have or have used both XM and Sirius.

I am huge, no, I only like to listen to new/indy type of music. My favorite radio station which I listen to all day long is KEXP (kexp.org) at work. In the car I listen to XMU (Ch. 43).

Does Sirius have music channels like this? For those that have had both, which is better in this category of music?

Sirius is played at the Gym i go to, but big time repeats on the channel played (some classic rock station).

I like the TAO, I'm actually thinking of grabbing one myself at that price

I'm an XM guy. I prefer the music and MLB broadcasts on XM, and their equipment is better. A good friend of mine works there in DC, so PM me if you want an employee referral link in order to get a better deal on the equipment, etc.

Anyhow, but if you love Howard Stern, or get Opie and Anthony free in your local radio area, then Sirius is your choice. But being that you want something in your car, I think that XM can offer you a better choice all other things being considered equal. Again, PM me if you want that employee referral link for discounts.

thank you so much but i've decided on sirius i wanted a portable one i can use anywhere so I decided on the S50 and i got a deal at best buy for $179.99 plus a $100 rebate what do you guys think?

u have to remember about the s50, u can listen to it "live" when its docked. Personally if u have the cash, spend it on the stiletto since it has built-in live antenna and wi-fi when the antenna can't pick up a reception.

I'm also interested in choosing what to get, and it comes down to basically sprots to me, which is a split though because:

Sirius has the college sports teams I want to listen to, most college coverage it seems like.

I love baseball and XM has that, but then again I get my own team on the radio here anyway.

I'm thinking of an HD Radio, which would be cool, anyone know anything about that?

Clear Channel was always 'involved' with XM. They gave big startup bucks. Last year or so, a mediation panel forced XM to carry some CC-programmed channels, including commercials. XM did. They also added XM-sourced channels, with no commercials, that play the same type of content, and moved the CC channels around on the channel listings. More channels, even though some [4?] have commercials. Could have been worse.

Obviously if you're really into one sport or another that will decide for you, since they've both got exclusives.

I believe almost all the non-CC channels on XM are 'uncensored'; however, songs or tracks with 'frequent language' are primarily played on the XL channels.

I have sirius and im not liking it (free trial w/ the stereo). It doesnt really have the music I like to listen to. I would love a stereo that receives internet radio stations though. The channels are endless and you can always find something you like.
I can dream I guess.

Ipod or other mp3 player/ pmp.
StationRipper.
http://www.stationripper.com/

More music than you could ever listen to, conveniently downloaded and separated/labeled for you.

I second H-Town. If you want truly portable, just splurge on the Stiletto. The S50 is just a mp3 player that gets sat when docked. There is no enhancement to make it truly portable either.
