Alright well now both demos are out so which do you prefer. I played TH today and it sucked. It was very bland with nothing new. So my nod go towards skate

Didnt get to play TH demo yet, so Ill vote later.
Skate was fun and a nice fresh idea, but overall wasnt satisfied the gameplay.
TH has always been a fun turn unrealistic skating game. A little to different from skate, like an arcade game to a simulator.

I'm unimpressed with skate, it's missing way to much in terms of actual moves, and gameplay features. That said, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground looks to be even worse, it litterally seems like Project 8 1/2. Horrible showing be Neversoft IMO. They need to realize you can't make a game realistic, and cartoonish at the same time it doesn't work. Also, it seems all the annoying, make no sense, repetitive goals will still be there, and with way too much focus on boring features like nail the trick, nail the flip, nail the grab, be hardcore, be a rigger.... yawn. Also, the game is ugly, does every level have to be void of color to make the game feel "mature?"

I'm always going to be a huge fan of the Tony Hawk series, 1, 2, 4, THUG, and American Wasteland are some of my favorite games. Project 8 was total garbage, and Proving Ground looks to be even worse. So for now Skate is the only option if you want a fresh skating game. I'll wait until it hits $30, or Skate 2 comes out with more features. As for Tony Hawk games... they seriously need to start over from the ground up. Build better levels, make the game look and play good. Cut out the annoying goals, get a good storyline in there, have a decent Create-A-Skater, and decided whether they want to make an arcade game, an adventure game, or a sim skateboard game and then focus on getting that down right.

Hopefully i'll find out later today no doubt i'll play both down the road , but at the moment looking for something fresh and skate seems it , but i haven't tried the thps demo yet. I've always love thps though seems its time for a change. Of course only room for one 60.00 game and right now skate gets my attention being comes with free tshirt and 10% off with coupon at gs.

skate is just well....bad. Very very disappointed in that one. At the worst point, Tony Hawk at least doesn't disappoint. I very much enjoyed Project 8 and felt it was a good step in the right direction. not everything was perfect with it, but it was very fun. Could have used a better storyline, but I don't play Tony Hawk games for storyline.

I like the Skate demo...but IDK if it's worth $60. Plus there's no flatland or lip tricks...that kind of sucks. It's like a realistic, next gen Tony Hawk 1.

Like others say, you can't really compare the two. I became sick of Tony Hawk after the fourth one, so now I will be moving on to Skate this Friday. To each their own.

Yes you can do lip tricks. I'am a die hard Tony Hawk fan but THPG is a real step backwards. Demo was mediocre at best, graphics didn't match up to previous P8, the board clips into the environment ie. tailslide your board is inside the ledge. Demo really isn't polished. P8 didn't have the extreme arcade feel that Proving grounds has . Aggro kick c'mon! are you serious going 50 mph to gap a roof!

IGN (ugh) said it best "What we mustn't forget here is that THPG is no longer a game only to be compared with its own previous installment." However they said this is an improvement from P8...ahh no

Only thing that would want me to purchase this game is fact you can skate LOVE park and Freedom's Plaza DC.

But there is a manual, that makes it a realistic, next gen Tony Hawk 2. I didn't care for Skate or Proving Ground. There hasn't been a good skating game since Tony Hawk's Underground.

I was referring to Skate not having lip tricks.

Skate has the absolute worst manual mechanic I have ever had the displeasure of using. It is a million times easier to manual in real life than it is to in Skate.

I have no problems at all pulling off manuals in the game. I can generally run from manual to flip kick to manual to flipkick..etc... over and over again without any dificulties. Just took a little getting used to the system.

What took longer was landing a manual after a large trick or off a rail. But now I can even do that almost every time.

I got to the manual challenge on the demo. I used up the last 4 or so minutes of the demo, and I couldn't beat it. For some reason, the game wouldn't give it to me...I would do a trick, go into a manual, then try to trick out. But when I trick out, it said I didn't complete the challenge....I'm going from the manual motion on the right analog stick directly into a shove it, am I doing something wrong?

This surprisingly is no contest, advantage EA. Skate plays so much smoother and true to real life. Definetly something new and fresh. I was skeptical of Sk8 at frist being a THPS player since its inception, but after playing the demo I was a quick convert.

THPS plays the same as it did in THPS 2. I feel like the game has been ported over and have had the graphics polished slightly.

Sk8 is a fresh face on the block. It has nice animations and a new gameplay mechanics not used before.

after just finishing the TH demo, I have to say skate all the way. THPG actually felt like a step backwards, while Skate, while lacking certain features that I will miss (such as lip tricks and the ability to get off of your board) is a breath of fresh air. I'm pretty much in love with the flick it control scheme.

You gotta hold the manual till it gives you credit then flip out. I had the same problem because I wasn't holding the manual long enough.

Keep practicing. Trust me, once you get it down, you can manual FOREVER in Skate. Even if your stop completely, you can move left or right to regain speed, which isn't realistic, but it gets you going again.

I just tried THPG. I am definitely not buying that and I haven't played a TH game since THPS 4, and a little of Underground. This one doesn't have anything to bring me back.

THPG is garbage next to SKATE... I played the THPS games post part 4 because I had no other options, (pre THPS4 I loved them to death). Now TH is so stale and the mentality in all the story stuff is so "dude" infested I hate it... at least skate is relevant to actual skate culture.

oh and skate does have flatland tricks. learn to learn them.

Yeah I really have to give it to skate they got my money tomorrow it looks like. Sorry thps maybe when your 20.00
I was referring to Skate not having lip tricks.
Skate does have lip tricks, I've done them in the demo.

Skate is at least moving MORE toward realism.

After THPS2, I completely gave up on the series. Not to say it wasn't fun, it was fun, but being fully 3d and having stats doesn't make the game a "simulation" of any kind. It's an arcade skater, through and through.

Skate is at least trying to be realistic.

Both THUG games were crap in my book. American Wasteland was ok but P8 was a breathe of fresh air. PG demo was....meh.

Where is the poll option of "both suck"?

I'm not a huge skating game fan, I kinda like TH better, but I think it's because I'm more used to the control scheme. I probably won't buy either though.

Man...I just played Tony Hawk...

Wha the hell happened? The graphics are worse now IMO, and...well, at least they made the Nail It thingie more fun...

Ugh...I was really looking forward to this :(

I like skate, But my only complaint is that It's by EA, And you know how they are with their old games that are online...

Hmm...hard to say. The last TH game I really liked and bought was TH4 for xbox. After that, it seemed to go into "Skater Thug" mode, which really annoys me (christmas christ would you bend the brim of your hat already?!). I gave Skate a try, but the controls put me off of it. I don't think I gave it a fair shake though, so i'll probably give it another go this weekend. I just downloaded the TH demo, but it seemed so boring that I shut it off after a while. I probably won't buy either.

Probably Skate since TH has gone downhill... like no other.

THPS 3 was a great game. Incredible game. But since then... the series has steadily declined.

Honestly i'm still waiting on a next gen surfing game. Why do they neglect surfing games so much. PLEASE, SOMEBODY RELEASE A SURFING GAME!! AHHHH DAMN UPSTATE NY!!

i've been really into tony hawk for years, but as of the last few iterations, it's gotten really stale, and as soon as i picked up the skate demo, it felt instantly refreshing and really fun.

You forgot the option of - Wouldn't buy a game from either of these consumer raping companies even if Britney threatened to 'perform'.

Hehe, better enjoy it friend. Played Madden recently?

That's right! We can't possibly enjoy a game now because of the possibility that it will be rehashed in later years!

You sir, make me proud to be a gamer!

Good work my friend. Keep us posted. Remeber, diamonds are forever, but you'll die someday and big TVs last quite a while.

actually, no i haven't.

and yes, i will enjoy it.

They're both are very "meh" to me.

And it isn't because I don't know how to play. I "got" it and proceeded to "own" it. Skate's the sort of game that makes for a good demo, but a very bland and boring game.

People will say Skate, because it's "fresher", but judging on game content alone (and as a Video Game), Tony Hawk is the better game, even if Proving Ground might turn out to be the weakest game in the entire TH series.

For the record, Tony Hawk games from part 2 to THUG1 embarrass the living hell out both games.

first off, you're basing this off just the demo. Second THPS has had a slew of history to its name so it already has at least something to fall back on but yet recently is going downhill.

After playing Skate (full game) for a few hours I can say even if skate used the full exact control scheme as THPS, it would still be alot better... everything just melds together way better.

So, you're saying Tony Hawk PG is going to be better than it's ho-hum demo? I thought you hated the series and couldn't go back? Or are you assuming that I haven't played the full game of skate?

Both games feal very mediocre to me. THPG, because it's a re-hash of THP8, only seemingly worse. Meanwhile, there's just not a whole lot of Skate that you already don't see in the demo. Now, I'm not saying it won't get better, as I'm sure you'll be seeing Skate 2009-20XX soon enough.

Again, earlier entries into the TH series are just better Video Games, their "realness" or authenticity to the pseudo-sport be damned.
