I searched, but didn't find a thread about Skate, so I thought I'd start one. If there's a different one, close and delete this.

Anyway, I'll start off by saying this game absolutely sucks. Correction. The control scheme sucks. It's probably a great game, if I could play it. I admire them trying to make a new button scheme, but this is just plain out ridiculous. It's clumsy, unreliable and entirely too much work. I've been playing free skate for an hour and still can't even ollie correctly. I'm sorry, but this is my vote for worst game of the year. The fact that they're making a Skate 2 shocks me. This game is going back to GameFly ASAP.

Worst game of the year? And you've been playing for an hour? Give me a break. Sure, there's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get used to it it's great. Just give it a bit more time..

Worst game that I've played this year I should say. And I just don't like the control scheme. It's too clumsy. Project 8 is 100 times better.

The only problems I had were that you had to jump up on every curb every time... and the fact that you couldn't get off the board to set stuff up. Other than that, I loved the game.

Seriously, if you cant press DOWN then UP on the control stick after an hour, something is wrong.

I actually find the control scheme makes it extremely easy to chain groups of moves together. Its much more responsive and natural then any of the TH games.

 More like you suck. How about you play a game for more than an hour before you write it off? Especially when you are previously conditioned to play an arcadey game.

"goddamn it forza is horrible, i've been driving for an hour but i can't even drift like in pgr4 WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT :bomb:"

If you have ever skated before you should love skate. I still play it regularly. The control scheme takes a little while to get used to, but once you do you love it and will never go back to THPS.

The only time I was frustrated by the control scheme was on a few of the challenges in which you had to do a specific type of difficult trick/combination of tricks. Some of the combinations could be very challenging but I really liked the game, a lot more than any of the Tony Hawk's. It just felt more rewarding stringing together solid tricks if you ask me. I'll certainly be buying part 2.

This game trumps the Tony Hawk's series by OVER 9000(yes I went there). Its so amazing that activision didn't make a game this year so they can recuperate and have a years advantage to trump the game. The weird thing that i just noticed was that these skating games are like a war between the two biggest giants in video gaming, Activision Blizzard and EA

Holy shit what are you smoking. This is THE BEST skate game ever except for maybe tony hawk 1/2 ...ah nastalgia.

The controls trump tony hawk in every way possible. I cannot wait for skate 2. This game would have been perfect if they add flatland tricks, the ability to get off your board and walk, and a better player creator. I will never go back to tony hawk.

I love skate. I will never go back to Tony Hawk. The controls are super easy and intuitive once you get used to them. If you can't Ollie after an hour, you suck...HARD.

So let me get this straight. You make a new Skate thread, which I thought is cool because I just started playing again and i'm having a blast, but instead you make one to bash it.

You have Metallica St. Anger as your avatar, but you think skate has to be one of the worst games you've ever played....

Fail. skate is the best thing to happen to skateboarding games, which is why Tony Hawk/Neversoft took a break this year. They really have a lot of work to do if they want to compete with skate 2.

As a skateboarder for over 8 years I can personally say that the motions and movements in game are done very well. With an exception to a few falls, when you do a trick the bend of the knees, back, and even the sound effects are just all done perfect.

Unlike most people this was one of my top favorite games of 2007, and I still play it consistently today like I use to with old tony hawk games.

I've only played the demo, but in less than 5 minutes I was able to kickflip into grinds, nollie up curbs, etc.

I'm not going to bash the fact that you don't like skate, but damn, the controls are really easy to pick up.

Yeah, 1 hour doesnt seem like you gave it a chance. I loved Skate, and i bought all the tony hawk games previous to that year. But skate was so damn good i passed on Tony Hawk for the first time. I loved the controls, and cant wait for number 2.

Skate is amazing probably in my top 5 games last year. Its tough (especially after a decade of tony hawk), but the control is tight, the pacing is really good, tons of stuff to do (online and off), cool community sharing, nice graphics, and a creative intuitive control scheme.

I used to skate and I felt like I was skating (as close as I could imagine for a video game). The frustration, the satisfaction, the cruising around, and camera style.

I'm sorry, but the control scheme is just too clunky. I have to constantly switch between the A and X button, and the analog stick. And not only that, the moves are easily screwed up. It you don't move the stick perfectly, your tricks are fucked up. I played all night last night and it didn't get any better. And trying to multi-task with the triggers, analog sticks and buttons is freaking impossible. If I wanted to do this much work, I'D LEARN TO SKATEBOARD. I want to fucking play a game. I shouldn't have to take a course on how to do that.

You can talk how you want about Skate. I'm just saying I don't like it. If you do, discuss it. That's the reason I titled the thread 'Skate', and not 'Skate Sucks'.

Also, what was wrong with St. Anger? Not their best album, but still pretty fucking awesome.

Oh, and I said it's the worst game I've played this year. Clearly not the worst.

Speaking of camera style, that's another thing that absolutely sucks. The camera doesn't move enough, and doesn't let me see enough of the scenery. I don't play THPG just because the camera style sucks.

Again, you suck.

Continue playing until you no longer suck (which will take longer since you are a fan of TH and have been brainwashed into unrealistic thinking)

This is a sim, it's going to make you work to do good. It isn't going to let you do a 1440 into a 900ft grind like Tony Hawk your first day in.

There is no reason why you should be using the triggers, analog sticks and buttons at the same time. Hold A with your thumb to push, line up a spot, take your thumb off of A and move it to the right analog stick, do trick...rinse wash repeat.
