Skies of Arcadia: Legends

I found a new copy of Skies of Arcadia: Legends at a local GameCrazy and bought it on a whim -- well, a whim and the fact that it's fairly sought after.

Well, I'm not sure if I should play it or if I should just pawn it off. Is it really that good? I've looked up some reviews online and it has some pretty mundane qualities.

I think RPGs are cool and all, but I haven't played one since the days of the SNES. None really appeal to me on the next-gen consoles or even PSX, for that matter. This games seems to have captured the qualities from RPGs of old... but is it really that good?

Its good keep it.

Are you under the impression you got it especially cheap, so that selling it might bring a good price? Or did you buy a game without knowing if you actually wanted it. (I've seen people say they've done this but never understood it.)

The game is quite readily available new at many big retailers. I suspect it's rather less sought after than Sega would like. It's a good but not great RPG.

I initially bought it because of it's cheap price and the idea of trading it for other stuff I wanted, as I've seen it on many want lists.

Cheap meaning...? It's $20 just about everywhere. I finally eneded up giving in and getting it when Fry's had it as part of a 3 for $40 sale last November. (I have it on Dreamcast but the never got around to playing it and the GC version is more completely and somewhat faster on load times.) But the only way I can imagine it being on many want lists is if they're only willing to pay $10 or less.

I'm not trying to be antagonistic, it's just after seeing it loitering in stores for many months at $20 I'm surprised anyone who really wants it doesn't have it already unless they only purchased a GameCube very recently.

It was $14.99. They had the Advance Wars counterpart for the GameCube for $11.99, too. I think there were some other cheapies, too, but I can't recall them.

It's not that sought after anymore. After the initial run was sold, Sega made some more copies of it and dropped the price point. It's fairly common now.

As for the game itself, I'm about 75% of the way through and it's pretty good, but not great. The CONSTANT random battles will drive you mad, but the ship to ship battles are very good and break up the game quite well. There's a lot to do in the game and it will take about 40 hours to go through (or up to 60 if you do the side quests). If you don't want to invest that much time, then use it as trade bait, ortherwise have fun with it.

Keep SoA:L. Its a great game, and I had a ton of fun playing it. I don't remember having a problem with the amount of random battles, but I played it when it first came out for the Gamecube.

I would have picked up that Advance Wars, that's pretty rare, being that it's probably the only one in existance

Zing!

Yeah, it's not that rare anymore. So just keep it.

As for the game itself, it's charming and fun most of the way through. One of the two major things I had the biggest problems with were the insane amount of random battles. The whole spirit of the game is about exploration and they even give you almost a hundred discoveries to sail around the sky and find, but it's kind of hard to want to explore when you're fighting random battles every 5 seconds. And if you choose to explore, all the fighting will make you level up a lot, which makes the game way too easy. The other big thing that got to me was that the characters are very simple and the story is very predictable. The good guys are complete saints and always optimistic and courageous, and the bad guys are total scumbags all the way through with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's kinda like the love story part of Titanic(ok maybe not THAT bad).

If you are a fan of RPG's keep it for sure. You can basically find it everywhere now for 19.99 and under so there's not too much reason to resell it. Finding those hidden locations and collecting bounties was quite fun.

Never said anything about the Advance Wars game that's coming out for GCN. I said Advance Wars counterpart. I don't know it's name, but it's a cartoony war / strategy game.
Sell, sell! Skies of Arcadia will induce insanity!
Don't sell it, that will only bring pain and suffering to others, instead you must be punished by keeping it forever. If it were to fall into the hands of an impressionable youth he might be driven from RPGs forever.

Hmm.. any clue what this game that he's taking about? Future Tactics: The Uprising perhaps?

Sorta going off topic is Future Tactics any good?

Also I have SoA:L and yes the random battles are just sorta annoying and the game play of course like any RPG the same traditional kind I coulda slept and played (exgerration of course).

The game play isn't so bad and the storyling isn't off the edge, but it keeps you somewhat going and sometimes it makes you wanna stop in a way. It's something you can play a little a day though.

SoA:L seems to be on every collection of GC or at least you should just play it to see if it suits your taste of RPG.
