Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow film = AAA

rumblebear

CAGiversary!
AAA score from rottentomatoes and received a very rare 5/5 stars from IGN. I can't wait to see the movie tomorrow. Most ppl who seen it claim it's star wars of this generation. :D Any of you guys excited about this film?

Lordy. The reviews I've seen thus far have basically said that it's all style, no substance. That'll teach me to listen to critics.

When I first saw posters, it looked stupid, but when I saw the commercials, it looks awesome. I love the old-style look, like how it seems likes its a black and white film colorized. I'm definately gonna see it.

Saw a preview on Tuesday. Definately worth your time and money. I'm already waiting for the announcement of a sequal.

Wierd thing is that the commercials conveyed that the movie as bright in color but in the theatres, it was a bit dark.

I've learned never to trust movie critics. I'm so-so on this movie, but if I hear good things from you guys I might check it out.
Shit's still shit, even if you try to polish it.
you cant compare your standard run-of-the-mill pile of shit with a highly polished glimmering mound.

I'll be seeing it sometime this weekend, I'd rather watch Ghost in the Shell 2 actually, but as usual Indiana is not the place to be for limited release films.

I just saw it and it is amazing. It is like the beautiful love child of Indiana Jones and Buck Rogers, and the godparents are Star Wars, 1930's style, and computer animation. The only faults that I have with it is that at points the CG doesn't hold up too well and that there is never a real sense of danger. Other than that is a fun action movie. They delayed its release because of SpiderMan 2, but in my mind it is infinitely better than SpiderMan 2. Oh well, hopefully it will do really well.

Yes, I'm also excited about Ghost in the Shell 2, but the closest showing to me is an hour drive away in Ann Arbor.

I'd take an hour trip, be happy. The cloest to me is either Chicago or Nashville, both of which are about 4 hours away.

wow, I'm kinda shocked, I thought it was going to blow. I've never been that big a fan of old b&w Serials/Sci Fi. But I may have to check this out. I thought they were going to spend so much on CGI that the reset of the was going to blow. The previews I saw the actors all acted infront of 100% blue screen, the floor even seemd to be blue. Even star wars isn't 100% blue screen.

It's funny how IGN gives decent scores (3-4 stars) to shitty movies. Then when the SAME movie comes out on video they totally SLAM it. They could argue that they use different reviewers but I thing that their reviews are bought and paid for. I'm not saying that about this movie, but it ain't the first time I have taken IGN's word and wasted my money. Then I read their DVD review of the same movie they praised and they tear it apart. "Why didn't you say it sucked in the first place, you f.uckers!!" is what I feel like saying to them.

Oh well, I'm going to sleep.
I got the free preview DVD, and it looks to me like the most shaq-fuing stupid piece of shit to ever make it to celluloid, this side of Plan 9.
Plan 9 from Outer Space wasn't a "stupid" flick... just had absolutely horrendous special effects, but then again.. thats what makes the movie worth watching.

This movie looks stupid as shit....they paid a dude who invented the program that runs everything for this movie(becuz nothing but the ppl are real in the movie everything is comp generated) 70 million and he has never did a movie b4 hmmmm this movie will blow lol
Review of Sky Captain, well not the movie but the trailer
http://filmtease.com/review_view.asp?reviewid=146

It's talked about it in the review, but looks like Crimson skies to me
Yeah, every time I see the clips, I think it looks like a Crimson Skies rip-off, that is probably one of the reasons I thought it would suck (I liked Crimson Skies a lot, though). Even some of the dialog sounds like it was taken straight from the game.

Wow...you guys are making me feel bad for wanting to see this movie.

For me, i just love the look. Jude Law, Paltrow and Rabishi have always looked like they were from early last century, although im not sure about Jolie (shold have been Theron). Putting them in a movie with a mix of olden times sci-fi and modern special effects seems like heaven to me.

With everything thats come out, having what could be a family adventure movie is great. I get woried when te reviews start mentioning Indy and SW...but i hope to god they arnt lying. We need something like that...something to take us away from the crap in the real world....and not be too far out like AVP or too close to reality like Spidey .

Oh well...back to my Dean Martin cd...

all the previews looked dumb as shit and, even after everyone here that said it is suppose to be great, i wont waste my time or money to go see that piece of junk...

....if someone rents it, maybe ill watch it if im not busy...thats about it..

I'm all into old school sci-fi. But The movie just looks fake to me. I watch the commercials and the actors obviously stand out from the blue screen effects behind them.

I'll wait till video. Though these are ususally the films I go tom the movies to see. Maybe wait for a cheap matinee.

I think this looks like probably the worst fucking movie that I've ever heard of, and that includes Biodome and Chairman of the Board. I feel bad for Gwyneth, Angelina, and Jude, how could they agree to do such a cheesy movie.

That's what I thought too. But on the bigscreen it works for the most part. The cars look terrible, but otherwise it looks good.

Edit- And for the people who say it looks cheezy. That's because it intends to. It is part of its 1930's charm. It tries to bring back the days of Buck Rogers and the like, and it succeeds. This movie is dripping with style, and if you can appreciate that you will love this movie. If not then you will complain that it looks like everyone is glowing, and that the robots are not realistic, and etc. Everyone is a fucking critic. I say kudos to the director for taking his dream and making it a reality.

That's like Pee Wee Herman falling over and saying "I meant to do that..." I guess that's a good excuse to diffuse any negative criticism, "It sucks because it's supposed to."

And yes, everyone's a critic. That's the point. I give kudos to the director too, for fooling the execs into paying him to intentionally make something suck.

I really want to see this movie, but all my friends thinks it looks horrible, I dunno why? Around my area I'm one of these few that actually thinks it looks cool.

I saw it today and it was great. Anyone interested should check it out. At first I thought the movie would suck because of the trailers but after reading some reviews I became curious enough to see it.

Don't judge this movie based on the previews. They truly don't do it justice.

I just hope I can talk at least one person I know into seeing it with me, I'll probably have to pay for their ticket to convince them :(

Just came back from a showing, good movie, a little slow moving and wish it had some more action, but is saturated with Neo-Retro goodness.

I'll say this, it's a hell of a lot better than that piece of shit RE2, and this is from a first time director.

Anyone else laugh their ass off at the end-line of the movie?

I too would like to see Ghost in the Shell 2 *checks website*
Kick ass! They are having a showing in Lawrence, KS starting Oct. 1!

I saw it last night and I liked it, after a while you stop trying to find the blue screen separations. Cars are noticable effects but most everything else looks great.

I really have to compare this to a being like a live action max Fleicher superman cartoon because of the feel of airbrushed metal and the silly comedic moments would be right at home in an old 1920's flash gordon style serial movie.

The only problem is that the feeling of jeopardy is very weak, The few times people get killed in this you're suprised alittle but not really shocked. but there were a few nice moments that made the audiance really want to cheer, and they did.

I loved this movie. I could (almost) truly lose myself. I wanted to be sky captain. I wanted to be a pilot. I wanted to see those machines up close. It made me want to believe that all existed.

I will see this as much as i can in theaters...after hearing how many people wished they had seen Star wars when it was originally in theaters, and how i always wanted to see Indiana Jones on the big screen, im gonna make it a point to enjoy this as often as i can before i have my small tv and dvd player to make me happy.

How disapointing. It looks like this AAA film bombed in the box office. Only 5 million on the opening day =( And people wonder why hollywood keeps making bad films, cause noone goes to see their good films =(
I'd like to see the movie.....reminds a bit of the game krimson skies.
I also thought of Crimson Skies when I first saw trailers for this film. I might actually go see this one in theaters (which is pretty rare for me).

16.2 during the weekend...ouch. #1 though...but damn. It made less than AVP and RE...WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

1. "Here sir, we have some free samples"
2. "Go on.."
1. "On the left side, some delicious steak. On the right side, a collection of rejected foods from Fear Factor"
2. "Oh! I LIKE Fear Factor! The right! The Right!"

...bastards

I saw it this weekend. It wasn't bad. I liked some of the retro robots and the whole 30s feel. Still I didn't think it lived up to all the hype I heard.

did ny one else think it was kinda star warsy. I loved it but didnt you guys see some similaritys. The ship in the swamp, YODA just to name a couple.

from what i have seen of previews and clips from the actor's interviews and other things, the film looks like a bad idea that actually turned out even worse.

i saw it. was pretty good

i really like the whole '30's feel, and the blue screen thing was great. i did think that the story was dull. There weren't nearly enough twists at the end. The evil scientist's plan was discovered, it was stopped every one was saved. even worse (POSSIBLE SPOILER)>>>there was no bloody final fight. just, "Great, we almost saved the world" "oh no, evil robot chick" *punch* *punch* *dead!* and then the world is saved
