Sleep or off?

So I have a n00b question about my PSP. When I go to turn it off, I merely flip the power switch up momentarily and then let it spring back to its normal position. The PSP will think for a sec, then turn off.

When it comes time to turn it on again, I repeat the same procedure and it turns on. but it will turn on to a point where I was last (i.e. if I was in the web browser then it will be on the web browser still). There also isn't any little "bootup" title (the one that says something like "Sony Computer Entertainment" or whatever)

So am I understanding correctly in that flipping the power switch is putting the PSP to sleep, and not truly "off"? Is there a way to turn it all the way off (short of removing the battery)? And does turning it "off" vs sleeping it affect the amount of battery drain that occurs while the unit is not in use?

Just curious.

as far as battery life, I'm not sure on that. but to turn the system off completely, simply hold the power switch in the up position until it turns off. then when you flip it to turn it back on, it will reset the system and you'll get the SCEA screen.

Yes. To turn it off completely, hold the power button in place for 2 seconds or so.

I wish there was a better power switch for the PSP. I've noticed that the battery does run low if I leave it in standby mode all day and night because I thought I had turned it completely off.

try the frustration of a game that the time played counter runs in standby mode.....Dragoneers Aria...played for 2-3 days...went in my menu screen for an equipment chage, backed out and did a double take...75 HOURS!!!!!!

sleep is awesome if you have to stop playing and can't get to a save point. what stupid programmers let the time run in standby, idk. however my regular psp battery will die in less than a week on sleep. so if you saved, turn it off. start up takes like 5 seconds anyway.

usually I do...but much of my play time is when I am in bed for the night. I put it in sleep as I fall asleep, and sometimes don't get back to it for awhile...grrrrrrrr...lol
