Sleeping Dogs (titled Sleeping Dogs: Hong Kong Secret Police in Hong Kong, Hong Kong) is an open world crime drama video game, developed by United Front Games in conjunction with Square Enix London Studios and published by Square Enix (Namco Bandai Games for Australia), to be released on August 14, 2012 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.[6] Sleeping Dogs will take place in Hong Kong and focuses on an undercover operation to infiltrate the Triads.
The game was originally in development as Black Lotus but was announced during 2009 as True Crime: Hong Kong, the third installment and a reboot of the True Crime series.[7] As a result of the game’s high development budget and delays, it was cancelled by Activision in 2011. Six months later, it was announced that Square Enix had picked up the publishing rights to the game, but the game was reannounced as Sleeping Dogs in 2012 as Square Enix did not purchase the True Crime name rights

True Crime has always been better than GTA IMO.

At least gameplay-wise. GTA may have the better extras, but the shooting, melee, and driving were always better in True Crime. Plus it always had the ever so innovative retry option after you've failed a mission...something GTA seemed to hate back then.

Never heard of it until last week, looks pretty good. I will keep my eye on it, game will probably drop quickly so I won't buy on release.

Not going to lie, I cringed a little when I saw that part. Going to be close if I can muster the money within two weeks for day 1 purchase.

Ugh...exclusive pre-order bonuses are kind of discouraging for me. I kind of wish I could get them all on day 1 without having to pre-order the game several times.

I'll be renting Sleeping Dogs from Redbox and possibly picking up Darksiders 2 this weekend. I only played the demo of the first, so I want to wait and see what people have to say about it.

I planned on grabbing this as a rental from Redbox at midnight, but it says there are no kiosks within 100 miles that have it. They likely haven't even added it to the kiosks yet, but I know I have rented games on release day in the early morning before. Oh well, likely will just wait until it drops to $30 in 30 days anyway.
I'd give it time. When I first searched, it only showed 2 locations. I just now checked and 1 more location has been added.
Thanks for the info. So far, nothing yet. Likely just going to head to bed and see if I can grab it first thing in the morning.

The closest one to me is like 13 miles as of now. I would imagine by the morning, they will be in my town. Hopefully the same happens for you.

My order from Newegg is out for delivery... *Waits*
Got it!!!!
Edit 2: Loving it so far but they sure do drop a lot of F bombs

My order from Newegg arrived earlier but the case and the cover art are mangled up along the spine. Decided I'm just going to keep it instead of returning it since:
A. I wanted to play it right away.
B. I was probably going to trade it in after I beat it anyways.

All I do is tackle people. I find people on high ledges or at the top of the stairs, run at them, and tackle them.

This is just like when I found out I could push people down stairs in LA Noire. I'll never finish this game.

Picked up a copy at Redbox, which only 3 were placed in the metro area apparently. Odd.

So far, it's meh. I'm sure it will get better as I play on but the combat seems very particular about button presses. I died 3 times against Ming(?) before finally getting past him with a sliver of health. I think I'll chock that up to playing at an abnormally late time for me, but still.. ugh.

Saints Row The Third is leagues above this game, by the way. There's really no comparison, there's so much more polish on SR3 and this game just feels clunky.

Like I said though, just an early "review" of sorts. I'll give it more time, might even keep it an extra day or two to see if I can get through it.

Disagree SR3 is wack imo, I bought it for my girl (she loved the first 2 Saints Rows) and she's barely played the third, after playing it myself I can't really blame her.
This game is more fun imo

Saints Row 3 is way way better than 1 and 2 in every way. I didn't know people existed who like either of the first two better.

Sleeping Dogs is definitely worth the purchase. SR3 was mediocre but this game will hold me over until Rockstar decides to release GTA V.

Yeah like I said, Saints Row The Third is a fun game, but doesn't hold a candle to Sleeping Dogs.

SR has the advantage in the fact that there are planes and choppers, and the music is better. Other than that, the game is just too silly and over the top which really took away from the experience.

Which was odd, since I loved SR II (best of the series) and it was just as oddball.

Anyhow, Sleeping Dogs has cheesy moments in dialogue, and the finishing/takedown moves are kind of over the top, but I mean if you threw a guys head inside an industrial fan in real life, it probably wouldn't be very pretty.

Sleeping Dogs wins as far as story and combat, as well as driving. Plus, I'd rather do karaoke, bet on fights, and do street fighting than run around with a dildo hitting people, or driving hookers around.

Reminds me of the absurd amount of pleasure I derived from pushing people into the water, both in the park and by the docks, in GTA IV. Or driving fast over bridges in SR2 and swerving into crowds of pedestrians, sending several of them flying over the side of the bridge. Oh man, the time I spent doing those little things over and over and over...

EDIT: Why is there a 3DS symbol above my post? What the hell did I do to make that appear? :error:

I'm enjoying this game. I like jumping from my motorcycle onto a car while moving to jack it. :) I just unlocked the skill where I can tackle and beat someone, but how do you tackle someone?
