Sleeping Dogs Thread-Early Reviews In(Game is Excellent)

The problem I have with this game are the collectibles. On the big map,I can't distinguish which collectibles I colliected and which ones I haven't. I wish they made them different colors or that they vanish on the big map once they are collected. Driving in this game is awesome and I love the combat.

When you do the dating missions the locations of all of the collectibles will appear on your map. Ones you have picked up already are white, while the ones you haven't found yet are gray.
So after a week what is everyone's opinion on SD?
I haven't played it in a few days and have no desire to. I'll get back to it eventually, but I'll probably pick it up on PC before playing again.

I'm digging this game. My problem is that I mash the buttons too much during fights as if I'm playing Final Fight. I need to time them instead. :) Is it me or are the women standing in the hallway outside my crappy apt are dirty but funny?

I mash the buttons at times too, then remind myself that I have to simma down nah and start playing more defensively.

I've found most of the health shrines and statues, but some of the statues that I find the location of, I have no idea how the hell to get to them. I've noticed some of them require lots of sweet parkour action, but there's a few that look impossible to reach at this point of the game.

There is only one *major* complaint from me: glitches. Tons of them. One of the most annoying ones is that I always get stuck on objects then have to save and re-load. Another one is that my pistol often just disappears at random while I'm doing missions.

There are some statues that you cannot reach until specific story junctions in the game. You will encounter all of the statues at some point through the story missions.

Pistols will disappear from you when you've used up all their ammo. Wei will drop the gun. There are some points of missions where the gun will not be accessible as well, if there is a on-foot chase the gun will disappear during the chase.

There are some things that the game doesn't tell you that you can do, by the way. For example, if you are near a wall during a fight, sprint towards the wall and you will run up it. Hit the attack button and you will do a flying kick off of the wall.

Taxis can be used to fast travel to different areas. Taxis will have a speech bubble on them, you can press and HOLD the Y button to ride in a taxi.

There are objects that can be used for environmental attacks that don't glow red, like some car doors.

If you have a gun and are riding a motorcycle, if you press Y to bail, it will enter into slow motion aiming mode.

Ugh... I wish I had paid more attention to this game because I just finished the demo and want more. So much more. Everything aside from the voice acting (though I immediately recognized Kelly Hu) resonated rather well with me. I regret paying off my Borderlands 2 preorder yesterday, but the split second I have the cash I'm buying this asap.

Normally not a big fan of open world crime games-Get bored quickly and the controls are terrible, based on the demo this seems to do a ton of stuff right in its first try GTA still hasn't. Little backlogged to get it now, but it's defintely on my radar.

Thanks for the wall running tip...i'm going to give that one a try next time I play.

And im really liking this game. No regrets about paying full price. The combat, story, character, and voice acting are all really good.

Another thing I just realized last night, the Dragon Kick energy drinks which increase melee attack damage? They're always in stock in the fridge at Wei's apartments.

The sad thing is that money is all over the place in this game. So spending $32 or whatever on a Dragon Kick or cup of Herbal Tea is getting off cheap for the buffs they give you.

Wow I never knew that, I just finished the game earlier today. I had a ton of fun with it total play time of 22 hours, still have 1 more health shrine to get and I have to bust a bunch more dealers.
If I didn't have this giant backlog of games to get to I'd spend more time playing this one and get 100 percent on it.
Overall great game I'd give it a B on a should I buy this or not o meter: Definite buy if you're a fan of the genre, possible buy if you're unsure.
I totally loved Wei as a character, I totally related to him. Storyline was dope, I felt emotions for some of the characters.
My main gripes with the game:
Police AI: it seemed 90% of the time only way to get away from the cops was to slow down and ram them off the road, otherwise they'd keep following you forever,
Glitches and lack of polish: I went to go play Mah Jong and literrally I could see some unfinished coding..... that's terrible and should not be in a finished game.
Really those are my only complaints I wish I had some people on my friends list who played this so I could compare scores *hint hint*
Question how do you redo missions?

Just press Start or go to your phone and check the section called "Social Hub." You'll see Mission Replay there.
Keep in mind that you can only play what the game considers a "real" mission, so things like the intro mission aren't counted.

I dont think you can replay the "cop" missions.

I just got it used from Gamestop today used the $15 off coupon and paid $38.xx

Solid game! Picked it up from toys r us sale on sunday morning and basically played it straight through. Played sunday & monday, very fun game and excellent story line. Only have one more mission to go in the main story line, and will probably play the side stories afterwards.

Drug busts are fun, also whats helpful when you have to fight a bunch of guys, bring a car along! Gun fights are fun, the street combat is awesome. Would recommend this game, hopefully download content adds more game life to this.

Haha, yeah... early on when I attempted a pretty well populated area for a drug bust, I got my ass totally kicked. Upon respawning I grabbed an ambulance and rammed quite a few of them to whittle the numbers down a bit... until more showed up. :applause:

During combat the only guys I have trouble with are the grapplers. Everyone else gets their ass handed to them. ;)

Sadly I just finished the main story of the game. This is one of those games you truly never want to end. A couple of reasonable gripes about the length, too little amount of lighthearted/humorous quests to balance out the seriousness (some longer "date" missions would have helped) and not utilizing their voice talent to the fullest e.g.
Wei's relationship with Jackie especially as J's death hit me the hardest. Hopefully they consider fleshing their story out for DLC. I just feel they threw away the opportunity to flesh more characters out when Wei became the boss of Water Street.
Regardless this is definitely a must play highlight game of the year. Don't think about it, just buy it so the rest of us can get a god damn sequel asap.

Between this, TWD and Fall of Cybertron I'm starting to have a little more faith in the industry. Hopefully the momentum continues.

I was really surprised by this game. I could never get into the previous TC games but I jumped in and ended up putting 20 hours into it over the 3 day weekend. I still have some side stuff I want to finish but with games like this, the ending does really finalize the experience to where I cant see reasoning to go back to just do some races/lockbox finding.

I would definitely recommend buying the game @ TRU since they have the B1G1F going.

Just finished the main story last night, last few missions were fun and excellent story line to them. I haven't played a game like GTA in years and this was probably one of the best ones I've played. Side stuff I'm not really sure that I want to finished it all up, the experience points etc , don't care about maxing them out. I think all mine are maxed out besides the "face" is only at 6. Would like some download content, but I may just end up selling the game for $40 and move on to the madden.

so i also finished this game a few weeks ago really enjoyed myself. i wanted to respark this thread to discuss the dlc packs. anyone play 'nightmare in north point?'i watched giantbombs quick look but it didnt look like a whole lot of fun and i just realized that the 'zodiac tournament' pack just dropped 2 days ago the trailer looks awesome anyone play that yet either?

Just watched the Zodicac Tournament trailer...it looks great. Its also only 400 MS points. Too bad I sold the game a while back. I plan to pick it up again once its cheap or a GOTY edition comes out.

i bought and completed both DLC packs heres my quick opinions.
Nightmare in north point was pretty fun gets a little repetitive but i enjoyed the ending, completed everything but finding all hell shrines in 2 hours.

Zodiac Tournament is awesome. its like playing a bruce lee movie. completed everything but finding all statues in a little over 1 hour.

there both very very short DLC's but if i had to choose just 1 it would be zodiac i really had a blast playing that one.

I really enjoy the melee combat system in this game as well as the environmental attacks.

Aside from Batman Arkham, are there any other games that has this? What I'm mainly looking for is lots of options to finish off the enemies.
