Smackdown vs Raw 06 scores 8.7 at IGN

I'm probably going to end up getting Smackdown vs Raw 06 for both the PSP and PS2. Are their any exclusive wrestlers in the PSP version? I remember reading the only way you can unlock Jake Roberts in the PS2 version is if you upload the data from your PSP, I believe.

Yeah, that's about it. Jake Roberts is a PSP exclusive, or you can use him on the PS2 if you upload.

I know that the PSP has some exclusive mini-games and such, though. Also, that synchronization feature between the PSP and PS2 season modes sounds pretty cool.
Sounds good. I've been wanting to play a new wrestling game for a while now.
Wait... so how do you have a PSP and not a PS2? I didn't think anyone was in that situation.

Anyway, while IGN's reviews can go fuck themselves, I seriously want a PSP just so I can play this game on the go and on my breaks at work. I love the PS2 version (it's the main reason I bought the system).

I don't have a PS2 anymore because pretty much the only games I liked for it and I played on it were the GTA games. When they released them on Xbox with more features and better A/V quality, there was no reason to keep my PS2. It wasn't getting used, so I sent it to a better place.

I have a PSP (well, it's my brother's) because I can use it to play back music and video, and there's a lot of great homebrew apps and such that you can run on it.

I'll probably get a PS3 when it comes out; then I can play some PS2 games that I may have overlooked.

Picked it up today, and yeah those load times are horrible. From loading the game, to the start of a match takes 4-5 minutes. Thats with skipping the logo screens and entrances.

Also you can not transfer created superstar season mode, from the ps2 to psp. Only WWE superstar season modes can be transfered. This pretty much renders is useless for me, since I wanted to play my created season on the go, then continue on console.

But, if you can get past that, the game is rather nice to play.

//edit: Whoa, talk about a copy and paste.

Yeah, what can I say? i got lazy.

Also forgot to mention, when you select a created superstar, it displays this:

"Using created superstars will increase the load time before the match significantly. Are you sure you want to select?"

Dont get me wrong, gameplay is sweet, but most of personal enjoyment of smackdown has always been the CAW. oh well.

** To update, CAW takes a LOT longer. Like above, from starting the game, skipping the logo screens as fast as i could, select wrestlers/match, skipping entrances when they start, to the match start, took almost a full 6 minutes.

For those who don't have a PSP or want the PSP version, you can of course still get Jake the Snake on the PS2 version with an AR or Codebreaker, which is how I got him. I just ordered a Ceramic White PSP and I was thinking about getting this game but with those kind of load times, I think I will pass.

Picked it up today. The loadtimes are not that bad. Certainly no where near MC3 levels. I'd say it takes at MOST 2 minutes to load go from the main menu into a match if you have entrances on and have at least one CAW in the match (not counting the entrances themselves).

It's surprisingly close to the PS2 version in both playability and graphics and the texas hold-em mini game sort of fun, though the other two minigames really suck.

If I reviewed it, I would have probably given it a 4/5 (for reference, I would have scored the PS2 version 4 & a half/5). The loadtimes barely affected the game for me. Hell, I'd say the lack of online play and not being able to sychronize GM mode made more of an impact on me.

Heres a copy and paste, I did on the gamefaqs/gamespot board, just for fun. Everyone is arguing, lol. Dont get me wrong, I really like the game. Load time is kinda eh, but the inability to tranfer CAW season is what really hurts it for me. Anyway:

Ok, I turned off entrances, which does help, and reloaded the game, and timed everything. Heres what I got:

With regular wrestler:

0:00 Start game
0:24 Loading memory card
1:00 THQ screen
1:08 Smackdown Title Push start
1:33 Match options
1:54 Match chosen
2:15 Now loading Screen with Superstar picture
2:45 Tip loading screen
3:00 Start match

Match with CAW

0:00 Start game
0:24 Loading memory card
1:00 THQ screen
1:08 Smackdown Title Push start
1:33 Match options
1:54 Match chosen
2:15 Now loading Screen with Superstar picture
3:20 Tip loading screen
3:35 Start match

And heres what i got with entrances back on, (skipping once theyve started) 1 CAW, 1 regular:

0:00 start game
0:24 loading memory card
1:00 THQ screen
1:08 Smackdown Title Push start
1:33 Match options
1:54 Match chosen
2:38 Now loading Screen with Superstar picture
3:55 CAW entrance begins, skipped
4:10 WWE Superstar entrance begins, skipped
5:20 Tip loading screen
5:40 Start match

I tried this game instore today. Dont own a PSP so tried a used one they had and this game and man this game is exactly like the PS2 with more features. The only thing obviously is the graphics pretty good even the controls are exact and when the music switches over there is a slight pause during play then normal again. But overall the game is worth it. Probably wait to see if I can get a deal on a used psp then get this game. Forgot to mention I spent 2+ hrs instore just playing and lost track of time.

ill be getting it shortly... sucks about the load time..

i already beat the story completely on ps2 but it owuld be nice to have this on the go...

i rented this game, holy crap the load times are terrible. Just loading different objects in the CAW took 5-6 seconds to pull up an item (and when you have to scroll through 150, it adds up). But other than the load times, i love the game, definately the best portable wrestling game i've played.

Sounds acurate to me, keeping in mind I said from the main menu to a match, so you would have to minus 1:08 from each time.

instead of whining about some load time what would you perfer? the old gb or gba wrestling games or this game. I think they did an excellent job in porting over this gem to handheld with most things intact from ps2 version and thats a big leap from the nintendo portable wrestling games. It amazed me so much I bought a psp for it. The story has voice acting the only thing missing I seen so far was the ingame play by play commentary.

You bought a $250 version for an inferior version of the game? Comparing it to a game boy game is quite the unfair comparison, it's like comparing an XBox 360 to an NES.

I think all he was saying is that with long load times, you get a great game of wrestling. For those whining about load times, they can try playing the inferior GBA games and have NO load times to see if that makes them happier. It's a tradeoff, average game = no load times or great game = long load time.

It's unreasonable to ask for both a great game an instant load times from a handheld at this point.

GTA and Burnout both have pretty minimal load times.

Pretty much sumed it up for me. Thanks man!

Load times didn't bug me much -- except during CAW. It's a great game, amazingly close to the PS2 version -- which means it's better than basically any current-gen wrestling game. Don't let some loading keep you from playing it.
GTA and Burnout both have pretty minimal load times.
I love Bunrout, but it had some long load times. It wasn't instant at all. Although it wasn't as bad as some of the recent games that have been coming out.
Anyone know if this works with the WAB changer?
It's $24.99 next week at Best Buy AC.
I haven't seen the BB ads for next week posted. But for that price, I'll definitely pick the game up. Thanks.

I think that might be the PS2 version you're thinking of, if not, then DAM'UM!! That's an excellent price for what is one of the finest PSP games around, loadtimes be damned.

I put a handful of hours on the Console version with super fast, HDLoader loadtimes, as opposed to Final Fantasy levels of hours into the PSP version and that's not counting loadtimes!
