Whether or not this is the best deal I could have gotten on these games or not, I won't say. But the fact that I was able to get the following in one weekend (two trips) at the same store 2 miles from my apartment, makes it better than theoretically saving a few bucks via eBay or trade.

Final Fantasy 2 ($7.49 - reg $14.99)
Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest ($2.99 - reg $5.99)
Zelda: Link to the Past ($2.99 - reg $5.99)
Secret of Mana ($19.99 - reg $39.99)
Chrono Trigger ($19.99 - reg $39.99)
All cart-only, but great condition.

Grand total of $55, thanks to EB's 50% off sale. And also thanks to Jason at the Mayfield EB who was holding the latter two (and Final Fantasy 3 which I already own complete) for himself, but offered them to me in a great show of gamesmanship - particularly as he was aware of the latest news that EB will stop accepting classic trade-ins.

Now all I need to get myself now are Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Evermore and the Lufias and I'll be set with the SNES.

Great finds. Check the EB site every morning, when Illusion of Gaia is in stock, it's $4.99. I love that game.

No shit, that's cheap as hell... I think I've gotten all my GC morning-update-type-games, so I guess SNES is my next stop. Too bad the SNES updates will tend to be not so good from now on. I'm guessing that it'll keep up for a while after Monday or Wednesday, whenever they officially stop taking trade ins, then the stores will probably start shipping their remaining inventory to the website and after that dries up...
Oh, and excuse me for being behind the times, but what it this 50% off sale you speak of?
Now through the end of the month, 50% off pre-PS1/N64 games. NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. Let me go snag the thread...

Out of curiosity, what SNES RPG list are you working from? I've been trying to complete my SNES collection for a while and was curious if I was missing any...

It's no official list, don't get me wrong... just a mental list of what I need. To be honest, I really never owned many, as I (or my parents anyway) didn't buy me a ton of games back then (I have FF3, Mario RPG, a few others), so I just know there were a bunch of games I rented and loved but never played again. Hence the games purchased and the games remaining.

As far as an official list, I would be interested in such a thing as well if someone has something approximating that, cause I'm sure I'm missing a few that I can't remember as well.

Nintendo.com has a list of SNES games in general, but not broken down by genre.

What about Soul Blazer? No SNES RPG collection is complete without Soul Blazer...and Earthbound. Gotta have both. ^____^

Awesome score OP. I don't know of a single EB around me that carries anything older than DC games.

Good job on getting them so far. I have a copy of Secret of Evermore (the label is worn, but still in good shape), but I have yet to test it.
Breath of Fire ??
Yes, I have BoF. And fuck, how can I forget EarthBound. At least my friend is ripping the soundtrack and sending it to me, that's a start. I think that one I kind of ignore, cause I don't expect to ever see it :p And I've never played Soul Blazer, that I know of...

Some of my favorite games, beat them all, but I do not own the first lufia, they really need to bring that series back, but nothing will live up to it.

Lufia II is still my favorite RPG. To this day I'm glad I picked that one up at TRU instead of Breath of Fire II. Simply because a couple years back I managed to score BoFII on GBA.

Congrats on the games...all of them are great. Yes, that's right, I even enjoy FF:MQ.

Funny, I made the exact opposite choice, although I'm not sure I could have waited for BoF 2 to hit the GBA, that took what 8 years.
I don't get why people consider Zelda to be an RPG I always thought it was action-adventure.
It just makes it easier for us Nintendo Fan-boys to claim Zelda is an RPG so we actually have one that is decent on our systems :D
but what about quest 64 :D
Oh good Lord... I was all excited when I got my N64 "free" with the purchase of three used games at EB a year or so ago, cause I got Quest 64. Worst camera I've ever played with.

Is ActRaiser worth picking up for $3? I saw that sitting around at my EB too, the screenshots look vaguely familiar, I may have played it once or twice ten years ago.

And if anyone wants FF for NES, I think that was tagged 29.99. Most of the NES games there even come with a sleeve, unlike the bagged ones you get online. You could probably find it for around the same price on eBay though.

I think actraizer is worth 3 bucks. I also think 7th saga is an essential. you guys probably aren't fans but I just picked wizardry VI in box for 6$ i think. I'm trying to collect every console version of wizardry but, V isn't in english BASTARDS. I wish i knew more japanese. life would simpler.

Yes, yes it is. I loved that game years ago, but sold it off because I had played through it about seven times and had done everything there was to do. I wish I would of kept it because every now and then I have the urge to play it again.

bad thing about collection of snes games is once the battieres die the game is worthless well maybe not worthless but i wouldnt buy it

Nice haul, OP! My personal favorite SNES RPG is Mario RPG, but that's probably becuase it's the only one I own =P

yeah great haul. really the only SNES RPG i REALLY really want is FF III. love that game. i have FF II, FF MQ, BoF, Ys III, and Illusion of Gaia, that i can recall. however i only recently found a good deal on a SNES, so i haven't started actively collecting yet.

Is there an actual list floating around her of SNES rpgs? I'd be nice to compair my collection (I'm told I'm missing a couple). If not, perhaps someone can point me in the direction of one somewhere or just start one?

Good finds, though.

Isn't that a defect that happens in some carts, more than anything else? I've never had a problem with any of my SNES or even NES games.

You can replace the batteries in the cart, so they wouldn't be worthless.

Get Actraiser! I just got it again about a month ago and replayed it. Very original and fun.

"You are so diligent and hard-working." :)

Haha, solid. I was planning on dropping by again today, get Dragon Warrior, ActRaiser, see what else they had there.

Wizardry V is in English. I think you might have just thought the hilt off the sword was an "I". Wizardry VI is the one that only came out in Japanese.

These are the ones I know about:

7th Saga, The
Actraiser
Actraiser 2
Arcana
Brain Lord
Breath Of Fire
Breath Of Fire 2
Chrono Trigger
Dragon View: Drakkhen 2
Drakkhen
E.V.O.: Search For Eden
EarthBound
Eye Of The Beholder
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest
Illusion Of Gaia
Inindo: Way Of The Ninja
Lagoon
Lufia
Lufia II
Paladin's Quest
RoboTrek
Secret Of Evermore
Secret Of Mana
Soul Blazer
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars
Tecmo Secret Of The Stars
Ultima: Runes Of Virtue 2
Ultima: The Black Gate
Ultima: The False Prophet
Wizardry V
Y's III: Wanderers From Y's

Added Robotrek. I hadn't heard of that Enix title before.
Added Drakkhen 2 and Paladin's Quest.

Good list, reminds me of a few I will need to look up at some point... EVO is a damn enjoyable game, I loved that. Is Drakkhen any good at all? It's the only RPG that's always in stock on EB.

I've never seen a battery go dead on a NES cartridge or a SNES cartridge, oddly. I keep expecting to lose one, though.

I picked up FF3 from the EB morning update...I'm happy with the re-translated hardtype FF2 on the Chronicles disk. I hate the load times on FF3 & Chrono Trigger so I'm going to go cartridge with them.

Still watching ebay auctions for a good deal on Chrono Trigger with map/manual/etc...

Drakkhen is really shitty and vague, but i managed to enjoy it, only because it was so much of a mystery of what the hell to do i nthe game when i was younger, i didnt even know there was a drakkhen 2, and its really hard. And you just now added Robotrek? such an awesome RPG, definately one of my childhood favorites, especially as one of the less known rpgs.

Never played Drakkhen, although it looks alright. I wish i could find a cart of EVO, I've only played a "rent" of it.
Twisted Tales of Spike McFang, also. You level up as you beat on cloves of garlic. XD
Spike McFang falls more into the likes of Zelda, which I don't consider an RPG. It's certainly an excellent game though.
