I just received word from a source of mine that SNK Playmore, the Neo-Geo creator responsible for such classic titles as The King of Fighters and Metal Slug, will soon be closing its doors, at least in the US. This summer, the company will officially cease direct sale of its games and will instead see distribution duties go to Ignition USA.

In 2001, the original incarnation of SNK closed as well, with company founder Eikichi Kawasaki investing in a new company known as Playmore. By 2003, Playmore had become SNK Playmore, sometimes just referred to by the original name of SNK. The new distribution plans happened a while back, but it seems like things are a bit more serious.

No word on whether this is just SNKP US or if this affects Japan as well. What I do know is that a lot of SNKP US people are out of a job. Well, pretty much everyone from what I know. We'll let you know more when we hear it.

Maybe if they didn't fuck up everything they touched, this wouldn't happen. If the US branch is out, good fucking riddance.

This also simplifies my "do I import this or not" decision with SNKP games even more.

So next time SNK games come around we won't see the $15 price point? Bummer.
I am looking forward to the next Metal Slug anyways.

I thought their games were doing decent under their current publishing model. I see their games come out, then instantly sell out. That sounds like they were doing good to me. I have no idea with this company anymore. Nintendo should just buy them out.

Nintendo? SNK? No.....It wouldn't even work out. Their games fit no where in Nintendo. The best bet would probably be capcom, or ARC Systems

re-reading the comments it looks like the game will be published by another company in the US. I just severely doubt we'll see the $15 price tags again, which will suck.

If it's really Ignition that's publishing SNK's stuff in the US, I can't see things improving over what SNKPUSA's done... given what Ignition's UK branch has put out.

SNK US didn't do anything but release the games over here and they already have a company lined up to do that. I don't really see this as a big deal because SNK US sucked at releasing games anyway. You could never find them the day they released and it even took amazon extra time to stock them. They just need to release samurai showdown collection and I will be happy.
