So, are you guys up for a Halo 2 tournament?? EDIT: 2v2 chosen teams??

It's not really a tourney if Led, Trak, and some of the other best players are all on the same team. All that would do is reinforce that you guys are awesome at playing Halo. Picking teams is definitely not the way to go. If we were to do some kind of draft, that seems more logical.

I guess my question is, how many people will we lose if we go random? And how many if we get to pick our own teams?

My vote is for random 3 v 3. But I'll play any type of game, but I wouldn't mind a 3 v 3.

Like Led said: It's a tournament. Someone's gonna win and someone's gonna lose. It's for fun anyways what does it matter if you lose? It will be more fun playing with people you know better. I'm sure you would rather play with Liquid instead of Jimmie right? This isn't about reinforcing how awesome anyone is at Halo, it wasn't even Led or Trak's idea to have a tourney.
What happened to the poll?
I'm waiting for people to tell me what they want (random or pick) , (h2h, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 etc.) so I can get an idea of what people want to do. Instead, everyone bickers like the ten-year-olds we meet in matchmaking.

Nobody's really bickering; We're all just having a discussion based on opinions.

I'm down for team based games where we can pick our teammates.

Okay guys, public poll is up. After that, we will decide teams (depending on the results).

You can still suggest team #'s and chosen or random teams, so let me know what you want to do the most.
Sorry. I'll add those.
Well, I'm not speaking in terms of the poll, really. I'm speaking in regard to the discussion.

It doesn't need to be one or the other.
In any case, how do I edit the poll?
I'm pretty sure you can't edit a poll after submitting it. I tried doing it myself, but even I can't.
I'd also be down for 2v2 and 3v3. No both option?
The only point of contention seems to be whether you can pick your team or not, so just make a simple poll with those two options. I say we go ahead with the seperate tournament idea for both team games and H2H/FFA.

If we pick teams, there will be about three or four teams playing. Guaranteed.

That is, with teams with three or more players.

Shit. Ok, here is what we do: Everyone will nominate their gametype in this thread, disreguarding the poll, and in another topic, will be the FINAL poll. So far, we have:

Free-for-All
Head to head
2v2 random
2v2 chosen
3v3 random
3v3 chosen
2v2 and 3v3 (elaborate...)

I vote for a Head to Head series and a 2v2 team series. I'm not sure if it should be randomly selected or not.

fuck it, this is never going to suit everyone and doing these polls is pointless.

I say we just go ahead with either H2H or small-scale FFA with 4-6 players.
Either way, I call Orlox as my teammate.
Is that, like, Olrox's Star Trek-style evil-twin or something? ;)
Is that, like, Olrox's Star Trek-style evil-twin or something? ;)
Everyone knows that evil twins have either a curled handlebar moustache or an eyepatch.

Not in the world of Trek, they don't. There, they sport beatnik goatees and, in this case, swap any L's or R's in their names.

Can't say I know much about Star Trek... but, dear God, man; you're right.

Don't they also sport a shirt that is opposite the color of the good twin's shirt, in way of the "color wheel"?

For example: the good twin's shirt would be green, whereas the evil twin's shirt would be red.
I say we just go ahead with either H2H or small-scale FFA with 4-6 players.
I guess that's the only way to go then. I vote for this. No teams at all in these tourneys.

You're kidding, right? You relize we'd be yelling more at each othe then anything. And the fact I haven't played in like a week. Not to mention I'd annoy the hell out of you more then likely

Oh yeah, for thoes of you who think I'm never playing again, suck it, because I'm getting on no matter what tonight.

EDIT: I vote for teams. Led quit being a dick, we can settle teams.
I say we just go ahead with either H2H or small-scale FFA with 4-6 players.
that would be better, if we did random teams, people would butch,
if we did a choose your own team thing, people would bitch,
the best thing to do FFA or h2h,
personally, I prefer FFA

Okay, I think a FFA is probably the best. Instead of different teams facing each other, we could have different gametypes for each part of the tournament. What do you guys think?

If teamplay in any regard is out of the tournament, then count me out. I take no enjoyment in running around in circles shooting everything that walks.

Sorry, but I don't think it's going to fun with people stealing kills and getting cleanup kills. That just pisses me off.

I don't want FFA either.

I want head to head. And head.

But if there were an FFA tournament, I'd take part.

So is chosen teams the only possible game type that would satisfy you guys? Or maybe everyone would rather just kill a weaker opponent in H2H.

I don't understand why everyone is wanting to pull out of the team tournament just because CAGtac guys are going to team up. Hell, you CAG guys should be jumping at the opportunity to knock us off. Round up your best players and step up to the plate. You've got nothing to lose.

If you guys don't want to play team games, then don't enter the tourney. I mean, just the same way we don't want to play FFA (although for different reasons) we aren't going to enter the tournament. This really should be up to rabbit to decide the rules/details of the tourney since it is his idea.

Let's stop bitching and start to put together a list of who is in... It would be one, maybe two games of Halo frickin 2 to play out of the thousands you've done before. What is another 8 minute round going to hurt?

There is still bitching because nothing has been decided. I'm down for H2H, 2v2,3v3,4v4, random or self picked teams. I just think a FFA is a terrible example (more so than H2H) of a basis for skills. So, if it's anything, but FFA, I'm in.

One large problem with H2H in any confrontation in which both players see each other at the same time, host will 9/10 times come out on top. This becomes a large problem between most of us CagTac players since we're all about even on weapon skill levels. A third party with a damned fast connection could solve this problem, but if not, non-host is at a distinct disadvantage. As well as host in H2H matches, spawn points play a crucial role in obtaining power weapon combinations, (Rockets, Swords, Plasma Pistol, Battle Rifle), in many cases the tide of the battle is decided within the first 3 seconds of a match. A combination of both host and a lucky spawn will guarantee victory in a H2H if you are competent enough to hold on to your vantage.

Perhaps 2v2 or 3v3 is in order, random players on a team could work if the one picking teams was a non-participant in the tournament, as they have the potential to stack a team in their or a friends favor. If teams were completely random and the choosing was free of any influence, luck may or may not shine on you again in this instance. For example you may be the best player ever to play Halo 2, but if you're paired with Jaket and Shrike*, well then you're going to be hard pressed to finish in the top 3. If you did have good fortune and found one or perhaps two players of comperable skill level then you've got it made. With that said, to have the most interesting tournament layout, 2v2 with teams of your own choosing will ensure a multitude of teams from each clan and perhaps some interclan pairings which may provide some truly unexpected outcomes. In a 2 vs 2 match teamwork and strategy prevails over raw talent.

As far as FFA goes its more about being in the right place at the right time than anything else.

*Names were picked as an example. No ill will is meant towards either party.

2 v 2 picked is decent becasue no one will be greatly stacked, but it's still too small for me to consider it a fun game (No multi-ctf or multi-bomb). I'd take part in it, but I'd rather have 3 v 3 random.
