..And now ive purchased some games that require higher firmware(mainly valkyrie profile and tekken: DR)..How/what am I supposed to do to work around the firmware and actually play the game? Any help would be appreciated. I know of the presence of custom firmwares, but wouldnt know where to start, where to find them, how to install them. Any help would be much appreciated.

Links would be good, cant seem to find chaos zeros installers just yet..Also it seems to say that i need to upgrade to 3.02 A before heading to B. I wouldnt mind some step by step stuff so I dont brick my PSP while fumbling around with what to do.

Yup, I'm on 3.03EO-C and really enjoy it. If you google it you can find a step-by-step walkthough to get you to 3.03 or 3.10 OE. You do NOT want to install the standard Sony firmware though, use the FW from Dark Alex since it allows homebrew as well (it has a way to switch your FW from 1.5 to 3.03 with just a reboot).

You sound more and more like a Sony bot every day. I also have the latest Sony firmware on my PSP but only because I was too lazy to mess around with devhook or any other programs like it. Any of the suggestions in this thread should help you.

PSPupdates.com also has some nice information about "enhancing" your PSP experience.
 
I would recommend you stay far away from any of the easy installers and learn the file structure of the PSP and how to do it yourself. Around 3.03 OE-B, there were a ton of bricks reported from people using "easy installers" cause one of the key files was off and even the safety checks Dark_Alex put in his firmware wouldn't stop it since these installers make everything automatic. Definitely upgrade to 3.10 OE-A ASAP and then OE-A' after if you need to play your Metal Slug Anthology UMD which was the main bug in the initial OE-A. Plus you can convert your PSone games and play them on 3.10 OE-A, which has been eating up a ton of my time since it was released on Christmas. No reason to stay on 1.5 or use Devhook when you can play every single new UMD and have homebrew readily available by upgrading to the custom firmware.
 
PSP has eaten all of my time up lately because of 3.10 OE-A' worth all the time doing the upgrades. Love playing my PSX games on the go.
