So my BF only wants Sirius radio. What's the major differences between this & XM; and what's the better one?

He just wants it for his car, so any recommendations on receivers would help out too. There's alot of them it seems?

ALSO, do they sell pre-paid yearly subscriptions? I want to get a 1 year..but I don't know how to go about this. I can't seem to find anything on this.

All help = greatly appreciated as always :)

The main differences between the two are the assortments of channels that they have. Most of the differences are the exclusives, which you'd need to check out the various websites to see.

Again, you'd need to check the differences of the receivers to see which one would be best. Some of the receivers allow mounting in a boombox-type enclosure for portable use, while others have a dock that can be added to a stereo. Others are car-only. Even though he says he only will use it in the car, spending the extra money for the flexibility is a good idea, IMHO.

Pre-paid subcription cards seem to only be sold on the company's website, though some electronics retailers may carry the cards.

Personally, I have Sirius, so I have much more info about them then XM, though I'd spend some time on the websites and look and see if there's specific content on each that would swing you towards one or the other.

And doesn't XM have adds now? That would suck to pay for a subscription service and have adds all the time.

I tried out both and hands down Sirius is the way to go for me. Between the 2 Howard Stern channels as well as Raw Dog comedy and Blue Collar comedy, thats worth the 13.00 a month IMO.

Most stations do have the ads on them but they arent anywhere near as much and as often on reg radio. People say "radio should be free" to combat the satellite radio but to me if I can take one channel across the US with me its all good. I hate driving having to find diff stations and sometimes you cant find jack you like.

My wife gave me a XM radio last Christmas. I listen to it in my car. To get your money's worth, use it in the house too. Spend the money on a receiver and a boombox/homekit. I truely feel I don't use it enough. The good thing is, I have only paid 3 months of service for the year. Also XM will give me 50% the next year. Does your BF like sports? XM has Major League Baseball, NHL hockey, NCAA Football, NASCAR, ESPSN Radio, PGA Golf and IRL racing. And also check out the talk radio for both. XM does have ads, but it's 90% content and 10% ads. I would love to have Howard Stern and NFL football. But for the price I am paying for 2 years and the time I listen, it wouldn't be worth switching. Pick what service suits your BF, simple as that.

XM came with my b/f's car, so we use that. Its cheaper than Sirius. If you dont like sports or Howard Stern, get XM. You can log in and listen to it when you're online (I am now). I mainly listen to the Indie station. If you're online, you get extra, AOL Radio stations, too.

CompUSA had a Sirius receiver for $10 (not sure if it was Friday or Friday/Saturday). I have Sirius and love it, problem is that there is just to much to listen to :)

The tuners are for radios that are XM or Sirius ready, as the radio is ready for satellite, they just need the tuner + antenna to have it work with the radio.

For me, I have Sirius, and I've had it for almost a year. I never listen to my normal radio anymore, as I either listen to Howard Stern or the music channels. The radio I have is the Sportster Replay and having the ability to pause the live feed, or go back to relisten to something I've just heard. It's a nice feature.

The only reason I wish I had XM is for MLB. That's it.

Ahhh I see! That makes sense! (LOL)

I seen the Sportster Replay, that looks cool. Now can he take it out of his car and put it in a boombox? If so, then I think we have a sale :D (That goes for all the ones that go into the car)

EDIT: All I had to do was look more into the description @

Boombox and home kit available to expand your listening options (not included)

Now here's yet another question.. and this MAY be the last! (Huzzah!)
Includes car kit, remote with battery, windshield suction-cup mount, magnetic antenna, DC power adapter, hook and loop fastener strip and installation guide

Is it positive that it will fit into his car????

XM has ads on only 4 channels, they still have more commercial free stations then Sirius. XM also has a much deeper playlist.

Back when XM was getting started, Clear Channel invested some money in the company in exchange for a few channels. Courts ruled that Clear Channel could program them any way they want, including commercials. XM made four channels identical to the clear channel ones. Clear Channels contract with XM runs out soon, so those channels will be dropped once it's done.

XM ftw!

There's a new version of the Sportster Replay, called the Sportster 4. Thinner than the original one, which BB has on sale. Both of them have boombox options, though they're specific to the model of the radio, so you'd need to make sure you get the right one.

When they installed mine (which I had CC do), they wired it to the radio and mounted the cradle onto the top of my dash, in the left-hand side.

Sirius.

XM is good, but Sirius has way better variety in programming. Plus they are blowing away XM in new subscription sign-up's, so they are only getting bigger and better.

Also, you can listen to Sirius live online (at no extra charge) if you want.
