Don't ask me why--it was next door to BB and I hate fucking TRU.

Anyway, I was checking out some Xbox games and next to me is this ~30-35ish guy and his wife, and their little girl. So the guy is talking to the employee about the Xbox DVD remote and asks if he needs it, and the TRU employee (~19-20 year old kid) says, "You don't need it. It's definately not necessary to play DVDs. There's no reason to buy it."

Not only did I want to slap the ass for being wrong, but he (almost) lost a sale for TRU because he was a dumbass.

Anyways, I politely told the man to get the DVD remote after the dumb employee left, and promptly exited the store.

Moral of the story: There is none-- but I ain't goin' back to TRU.
it's times like this I wish shooting stupid people was legal.
It's sad when you would want to kill someone because he had his information wrong.
The guy at TRU was an idiot so you helped him sell customers more things?
No, he was saving the customers hassel. I (unfortunately) sell at least one game for them everyime i walk into the store. As of late, ive sold 4 copies of Katamari for them :)

If this was a regular employee, I'd say shoot em. But, if it was a holiday, temporary employee, I'd explain to them why they are an idiot and then shoot em. I've overheard GS holiday temps that couldn't help customers at all.
it's times like this I wish shooting stupid people was legal.
I'd agree with legally shooting stupid people, but not in this circumstance... they'd have to do something pretty damn moronic for me to want to wipe their existence off the planet. And it's nice to know that an employee (even an unintelligent one at that) has a little bit of morality because he could've easily said oh yes, you need this, then you need this extension along with it, and why not buy this as well etc.

That is cool. I sometimes want to help the employees out, but I do it in covert ways. Like once, an employee was looking for Manhunt, so I spot it and put it in a visable place so the employee can take credit for it. Sometimes when employees give the wrong information, I just bite my tounge and walk out of the store.

I agree. If this was a law, President Bush would have been long gone by now.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post

He's not getting paid commission, so I just saved the man the trouble.

No, they aren't getting commision but helping morons do their job just keeps their incompetent asses from being fired.

It just seems odd that we all bitch about the idiots working at EB and GS but they you guys are off helping the same type of people at TRU.

I don't shop at GS or EB, so you won't here my bitching about it. I either buy me games on eBay (usually), Best Buy (often) so I don't have to deal with employees, or a local store with some pretty awesome guys. Regardless--Why should that man find out the hard way he needs a DVD remote because I wanted to spite a TRU employee?

No, because if he doesn't learn goes home and tries it and realizes he needs it he's more likely to complain to TRU. The more complains that they get about their electronics department the more likely they are to actually do something to get hire people who know what they are doing. I remeber when competent people worked their but that was a long time ago.

LOL quit dreaming. Noone competent will ever work at TRU.

A lot of times when I hear employees giving wrong info, I just try to ignore it. I'm usually not a very bold person and I keep to myself when in stores.

Ok, if you went shopping for a sewing machine, and not knowing anything about them, you are at them whim of whomever works there. If some random woman came up and gave me info on what things do, and she doesnt work there, i'd be thankful.

On a side note, that happened the other day shopping at Sears with my GF.

Also, i normally help out the people who look a bit confused. Its the retail monkey inside me. Always working...

I remember between the ages of 16 and 18 when I liked to go to stores like TRU and meijer and act retarded. My brother hopped on one of those stick horses and was riding it around the store (yes I see the irony) anyway when an employee came up to him he wouldn't stop "riding" the horse until the employee agreed to pet it. Then he proceeded to ask the TRU employee where the adult diapers were, since they had so many regular diapers, and he went into the "Oops I crapped my pants" bit from SNL.

1) Stupid to assume that because there's one idiot who works at TRU, we're all idiots at TRU.

2) Stupid to say nobody competent would ever work at TRU. I'm quite competent. Got any questions? Try me.

3) Stop being stupid, please.

speaking of dumbass employees from TRU, there was another episode where some friends of mine and myself were fuckin around up in front of the store and I hopped in one of those giant Barbie houses... kind of like a tent... anyway an employee came up and asked if we needed help, and I said ya we're waiting for our friend "Ken" to show up. Naturally there was no real "Ken", but she offered to page him... needless to say "Ken" got paged to the Barbie department. For some reason that was funny to me.

That's why I work night crew and backroom; not that I'm not a good dancer, I just don't like helping the townies around here, they're slothful, rude and ungreatful in most cases.

What kind of fantasy world do you live in that people get fired from TRU (or anywhere else for that matter) for giving out incorrect information?

No, not my store. But the horror stories I've heard come out of the Staten Island stores is sad.
A woman came into our store one day with a TRU bag and the Karaoke Revolution 3 game for the PS2. Just the game, not the bundle with the mic, mind you. She comes up to us and says "Hi, I just came from the Staten Island TRU but I'm a bit skeptical. I know you guys never steer me wrong so I'll ask you. I just bought this, and the guy at the store there said that this was all I needed to do the dancing thing on my PS2."
We looked at her in shock. Then when we verified that was indeed what she was told, we proceeded to give her the right game, first off and a dance mat. We asked her how they thought a dancemat and dancing game would magically appear out of a Karaoke Revolution 3 dvd case. She said she didn't think so either but the person there swore to her that was all she needed........
Yeah.... don't go to that store. Ever. Come to us. Bay Parkway, Brooklyn :)

People need to be better informed before purchasing anything. Never rely on a store employee for correct information, as what you get is mostly opinion, not fact.

Here's the problem i have with that logic...i know what im talking about and am quite up to date with what i work with. I work at a comic shop now, and i try my damn hardest to keep up with everything...its a pain, but i get a a damn good overview of everything, and deep knowledge of the important stuff.

When i worked at the Kmart electronics counter, i was informed and knowledgeable. Considering i know im not the only CAG in retail, im sure there at least a few smart people out and about. You just need to realize when your getting the runabout and when your getting helped
