...because it was on before one of those things called 'quality programs', and I was curious to see the other side of things and I was wondering, what the fuck is wrong with these people?

(This has nothing to do with the Venezualan president, this episode had no mention of it, at least in the portions I watched.)

I watched once - it wasn't all bad.

They helped out this Chinese family where a mother was sick and this kid was taking care of her brothers and sisters. They gave the dad some egg-laying chickens and got a doctor to look at the mom. I will say that the christians do seem sincere in their charity efforts.

But then the announcer started praying to the Jesus god and I turned it off.

But they quite often do it in an insulting way. They give charity (the ones run by robertson) to show those poor lose souls the light of jesus. He repeatedly denounces other religions as not just wrong but devastating to the people who believe and, though not directly, borderline evil. I've watched it a lot, and my mother used to as well, she stopped after he denounced hindus on his show. When I've watched it, I don't exactly get the feeling you did from it. Maybe you just caught a good episode.

Apparently if you refuse to believe in evolution is stops believing in you.

I totally believe you, I just wanted to post because I was surprised that I saw something redeeming on that show (I was expecting it to be 100% full of crap about taking away women's rights and how catholics are going to hell)

The way I look at it, if you help someone out of a jam, then it's fine to spread the word of your god (esp because it's what got you to help them in the first place)

Of course, when you start to slander other religions, tell lies about the believers, or advocate assassinating their leaders, then you've crossed way over the line.

I called in once while Pat was pleading for donations to ask "What does Pat need all this money for?" They said, "Jesus loves you" and hung up on me.

If you really want to get freaked out, watch "Soldiers in the Army of God." It's a few years old but HBO has been showing it lately. Army of God is a radically, RADICALLY christian group that is violently anti-abortion. They actively support killing abortion providers. Listening to these people talk and justify murder is truly scary. I don't know why some of them can't be involuntarily committed because they admit they are just waiting for the perfect time to kill abortion providers.

Well evolution is wrong, and so is the 700 club.

A daily Pat Robertson Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my wealth to keep
So that I may grow in popularity
As people watch me on their TV

If I should die before I wake
Take out California with a mighty quake
Destroy New York with one quick blast
Where nothings left and nothing lasts.

Immortalize me in Virginia Beach
With statue great and arms outreached
So that if one of your natural storms aims here once more
The sight of my Bronzed image will direct it away from these shores

Kill Osama, Saddam and Kim Jong too
And that Venezuelan bastard, or was it Peru.
And please, please, please, oh please my Lord dear
Don’t be female, black or queer
