I don't understand all the animosity towards this game, the incredibly low scores people give it, or the ridiculously low ebay value when comapred to crap like Rhapsody or Legend of Mana. The game itself is easy to get into, has a campy story, nice graphics, and the Secret of Mana style battle system without the pitfall of having your dumbass partner trap you up. So my question is: Why don't you like it?

A little postscript, if you don't likethe game but have the Bradygames strategy guide to it, I'd like to buy it.

Reasons I didn't get into it:
Main: The world changes too much. You never get the Zelda/Secret of Mana feeling of being in some big world. Once you get comfortable in it, you end up warping somewhere else, and basically starting from scratch.

Secondary: It lacked the personality and wonder of Secret of Mana. I hate to say it, but the likely reason is because it was developed in the US, rather than in Japan where the vast majority of RPGs were made back then (and to a lesser extent still to this day).

The sad truth is that Square fanboys don't like it because it was made in the U.S. and not Japan. It's clearly far inferior to Secret of Mana, but Evermore is still a great game. I agree, much better than Legend of Mana.

it wasnt as good as secret of mana, and they released that instead of true sequels. its not so much that the game is bad, were just bitter.

im half and half, leaning more towards a positive side..then again, last time i played it was years ago...sometimes it left u in the dark..like, what now!!??! but i did love the frequently changing environments..that was a huge plus..the doggy sidekick who changed to was also fun..i dno..the game just had a cool charm to it that won me over

I liked Secret of Evermore! I have beaten it plenty of times, and I find no problem with it. I like how the dog changes throughout the new worlds.

yeah, secret of evermore was ok, but damn, SD3 (secret of mana 2) was unfuckingbelievable.

definitely one of the best games i"ve ever played.

Secret of Evermore was really good. When it first came out I was disappointed because of the lack of multi-player (going with the "Secret" name) but after I played, I found it enjoyable enough. I think the part that doesn't sit well with a lot of people is that you're from the present but yet you don't really do anything in the present. Everyone at the time was wanting more Earthbound and unfortunately Evermore wasn't the same formula.

evermore is freaken very good.....once again it just made me feel like Im actually that character, left in the dark, fighting to get home........Eathbound had the same effect on me :)

I also beat it 3 times

I love Secret of Evermore and it is one of my all time favorite RPGs. When I first played it as a kid I was a huge sci-fi nut and everything about Evermore was 10x more appealing for me than other RPGs out there.

I...think I own that game. Never got around to playing it though. (I know I have Mana...but I haven't played that one either...!)

I knwo there are people out there who like it besides me, but I wss just taken aback at how many diss it for no real reason. Maybe I'm just kind of angry that one of ym favorite games gets no respect. Glad (some of) you guys love Evermore too!

Eh

Alright.

I don't generally like games with an alchemy system where you have to purchase ingedients, I remember that being annoying.

And Secret of Mana had real multiplayer - the game is way better multiplayer. I think you could have a 2nd player play the dog though...

I liked it, I beat it at least twice. I remember playing this, Super Mario RPG, and Chrono Trigger around the same time since I think they came out close together. That was one great time for RPGers.

It was a great game, I never new it was so put down. It had a nice story, a neat magic system and a good difficulty. What more could you want.

I loved Secret of Evermore, too bad my complete copy isn't worth more, but sentimental value is always something. I do need to bust out my SNES and reminisce w/ this and SoM. Nice thread OP, I've always wondered myself

Hating the game because it was made in America, eh? I know a guy like that. Everytime he plays a game it has to be the Japanese version (even though he doesn't speak Japanese well at all). I'm with you, screw those guys. I'm going to decide on a national "Play Secret of Evermore" day.
