So who is lining up for the "second launch" of the XBOX 360?

Just got back.. Our best buy only got 22 Premium system total... no core BS... my sister & friend wanted to get the system... SO i went with them... were there since 8 PM last night... and were 19-21... got lucky... the line grow to 50 people by 4 AM... alot of people left after we told them, the manager said there were only 22 system the night before...
 
Well over one hundred people in line at the BB in Winston-Salem, NC. Some older parents who didn't try to wait in line were offering $700 or more for one of the 18 units they had given out. I know the PS2 was hard to find for about 2-3 months after launch but I don't remember this many people waiting to get what amounts to only a handful of systems at a time per store. Well it is only a week until Christmas.

1) We live in an age of Child Appeasement...we'd rather not hear Johnny whine, so we do whatever we can to shut him up. Bail him out of jail? Sure....hire a lawyer when he date-rapes his girlfriend? Sure......get him the xbox360 so we dont have to listen to him scream? Sure. Punish him or teach him a lesson that life isn't about just throwing as much money as it takes to get what you want? HELL NO. Believe me.....if this keeps up America will be in decline for many years to come. The new standard of living will be held up in places like China. We may very well be the last geenration that lives better than our parents did.

2) We, as Americans in general, live far over our heads. While the rest of the world wonders if they'll have enough money for food, we throw 2 to 3 times the money we should reasonably pay for a videogame system...just to throw it on our pile of overpaid-for videogames we already have at home..our PS2's and our Xboxes and our PSP's....which is kinda sad.

3) People are Sheep. Tell them to stand in a line cuz everyone else is doing it, and they will, and most wont even question why, just to be a part of the event. There are people who will buy an Ipod Video when they have no intention of using it, but its cool to be able to say you have one when you stand around the watercooler the week after christmas.

I can see most of those kids on xmas day too...opening up the box for theXBOX 360 and swearing at their parents cuz its "ONLY A CORE! YOU GUYS SUCK! THIS ISNT THE GAME I WANTED". ..then in three months whining and beggin their parents to get them a PS3 cuz the Xbox360 is all "Old and boring".


Kids today......you can beat them and get away with it so long as it doesn't leave a bruise. :)

Funny story a little 13 yo girl was waiting with her mom to get one for her bro/son. Well when they handed out the vouchers she was half asleep and stuck out her hand and got one. Well they could not afford two and thought it would piss people off if they told what they did (grabbing one by accident thus leaving one less person in the back to get one).

So when the bidding on vouchers got to 400 this 13 year old sold hers to another lady. I was really happy for them.
 
camped out at 4pm saturday afternoon, I was number 11 in line. Some interesting things occured, a hairy ass mooned us, and a guy at the end of the line had a gun pulled on him. fucking best buy opened at 8am, i was number 11, and I didn't leave untill 9:15 am. Took fucking forever, they had the systems in the audio garage, and only let 2 people in at a time, and we got pushed on every product they were offering.
 
wow, what an experience. i camped out at best buy from 8:30am Saturday morning with the weather absolutely ridiculous. the high was about 21 degrees and it got down to 8 degrees. i was 8th in line at 8:30am and there was 25 people that ended up camping over night. then about at 5-6-7:30am people just starting showing up out of the wood works like they we just going to magically be able to get a xbox360 without camping. F@cking morons. by that time and all that i been through(im not even going to type everything that when on that morning to day to night to morning) i was cold, tired, and grumpy with a giveme giveme type spirit. so needless to say i wasn't exactly too kind to those folks that ended up showing up right before opening. anyways, im home, i got one....FINALLY....i got a 2 yr replacement plan for 50 bones and ended spending $470 which is a drop in the bucket compared to what the rich/idiots are paying from ebay/scalpers. im going to bed, i deserved it. YeEeEaAaAhHh!!!!!!!!!!

I know what's going on with people and their "entrepreneurial attitudes" - it's just that $470 is a lot of money to spend on a video game console even if they were going on eBay for $5,000 each...

$470 is $470 no matter what they cost elsewhere...now i think you got a good deal relatively speaking, and i also think that someone with frostbite aversion might be happy buying a $600 premium off ebay to avoid spending their time hunting, camping out and freezing. regardless...congrats.

my buddies keep asking if i'm getting one. i told them that unless my kids can eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner, then i'm holding out for now.
 
i was out since 6pm and was 25th in line. It was raining like hell last night, by about 1am there were 6 canopy tents set up. 14 hours later, i had an xbox 360. Is worth it now that i have it in my hands. I love turning it on and off from 20 ft away :)

Man, you guys are nuts. I thought I was crazy when the PS2 came out and went to wal-mart four hours before they sold it. Hell, I sat down on a fold out chair that we jacked from the store.:)

Well I made the trip out early Sunday say 5 am and was told I wouldnt get one...

So no biggie until my wife calls me today and got one at Sams Club....
Now I am having buyers remorse already and I havent even went home to open it up...?!?

$470 for system with two controllers!! Thats just a bit much to bite into...
