I live roughly 20 miles out of town.
Our county is under a burn ban.
Comming home friday, I noticed a piece of land that recently sold was being cleared out and that they had a nice little burn pile going. Said land is easily within a stones throw of my "backyard".
Not long after I got home and saw the burn pile, a sheriff's deputy pulled in over there and made them put out the fire. Being under a burn ban, I dont know if they got fined.
So today Im online working on a few things and I went to get a drink and noticed the same people started up ANOTHER burn pile. While watching for a few seconds, I noticed one of them start running around beating on some grass and next thing you know their grass fire got out of control.
It was too close and Ive got too much crap to get ready in case the fire came this way so I grab my 2 kitties and that was all I was gonna take. Had them prepped just in case.
Not long after that it got a bit worse and got super close to my next door neighbors 200 gallon propane tank. About that time the fire depts rolled in and took control.
Needless to say that was a super close call but thats really nothing new that happens in my neck of the woods.
I remembered I got a new digi-vid-cam for my birthday and went out an took a couple of pics-
This one was from the front corner of my house-

Sad reality of things? If it had burned down my house, they wouldnt get anything other than a small fine for the burn ban. I would have to take them to court and HOPE that I would get anything in return for their mistake. If I did get a judgement in my favor..theres nothing that gurantees theyll pay anything and certainly cant replace everything lost.
I just cant imagine the idiots thought process that they were told to stop because of the burn ban one day, and start it back up 2 days later when the wind was actually worse. Several houses could have lost everything today because people were too stupid to follow orders.
