I live roughly 20 miles out of town.

Our county is under a burn ban.

Comming home friday, I noticed a piece of land that recently sold was being cleared out and that they had a nice little burn pile going. Said land is easily within a stones throw of my "backyard".

Not long after I got home and saw the burn pile, a sheriff's deputy pulled in over there and made them put out the fire. Being under a burn ban, I dont know if they got fined.

So today Im online working on a few things and I went to get a drink and noticed the same people started up ANOTHER burn pile. While watching for a few seconds, I noticed one of them start running around beating on some grass and next thing you know their grass fire got out of control.

It was too close and Ive got too much crap to get ready in case the fire came this way so I grab my 2 kitties and that was all I was gonna take. Had them prepped just in case.

Not long after that it got a bit worse and got super close to my next door neighbors 200 gallon propane tank. About that time the fire depts rolled in and took control.

Needless to say that was a super close call but thats really nothing new that happens in my neck of the woods.

I remembered I got a new digi-vid-cam for my birthday and went out an took a couple of pics-

This one was from the front corner of my house-

This was from the back-

Sad reality of things? If it had burned down my house, they wouldnt get anything other than a small fine for the burn ban. I would have to take them to court and HOPE that I would get anything in return for their mistake. If I did get a judgement in my favor..theres nothing that gurantees theyll pay anything and certainly cant replace everything lost.

I just cant imagine the idiots thought process that they were told to stop because of the burn ban one day, and start it back up 2 days later when the wind was actually worse. Several houses could have lost everything today because people were too stupid to follow orders.

We weren't under a burn ban but I saw 4 different people nearby burning in HUGE fires. The houses are really close together on the street and on one side there is an open field of dead weeds. And there was a breeze. I can't believe how stupid some people are.

That would just piss me of so much. You must have been scared shitless that you were about to be blown up...

Some people are just to stupid and never learn, I bet they will start another fire in the next couple of months so make sure to have your kitties ready.
Where in Austin is that?
I dont live "in" Austin. Austin area. Caldwell county just past the Travis County border. I use Austin as a location because people would recognize that more than they would Lockhart.

You should move to New Hampshire where our motto is "Live Free or Die". On the other hand, the town (and I use that term loosely) requires a burn permit and inspection of the area you want to torch.

Why is the Lone Star Republic having a bann on burning?

Does it includes Bonn fires like the ones on hills or in a empty field?
Did you ask the perpetrators in your best Ronnie voice, "Whats yer problem man?!"
I def had a few things to say.

I was at the fence line being nosey..and bored...and the people that were clearing the land were just standing around as the volunteer fire depts were doing their thing..one of the volunteers told them to get their rakes etc and help em out.

I definately made it a point to call them fucking retards for starting another fire after being told already theres a burn ban.

My whole city is burning down

Gov. Charlie Crist and Brevard County officials have declared a state of emergency as firefighters in Brevard and Volusia counties continue to battle at least a dozen separate brush fires amid dry conditions and high winds.

Fire: Crews are looking for hot spots from a series of nine small brush fires. Authorities believe many of the fires were deliberately set. The fires were located near Tudor Road southwest, in the woods near Bayside High School, on Delray Street northeast and near Weslaco Street southeast. Three firefighters have been injured while fighting the flames.

Nothing like waking up to family members calling you seeing if you're ok, walking outside seeing smoke in both directions on the horizon and watching a helicopter scoop water out of the nearby canal.

Yeah, I called my mother to ask her to pick up my prescription tomorrow, and before I even start talking, she goes into how everyone's okay and how the fires are further down the street. I couldn't figure out what she was talking about, so I turned on the news and every local channel is on breaking news coverage or a large marquee.

Call me a city boy all you want but I have a question.

What the fuck are they burning? Like why does something like a burn ban exist? What do you need to burn that you cant just throw away?

I am really confused at why people would be randomly burning things.

Some people burn their leaves and garbage (and dead animals, but that's a whole other thing unrelated). No, there's no reason to do it, some people just do it.

A burn ban exists because it so damn dry here (hasn't rained in months), half the county's ON FIRE. Except the ones here were done on purpose.

When what you're doing on your property is endangering someone else's life or personal belongings, then you're not allowed to do it. Its like thinking it would be fine to just spin around your property with a machine gun firing at random....you may not hit anyone, but chances are you will. When there is a ban in effect, it has been set in place for a reason...to protect you and those around you.

Why some moron would set the fire two days later after already being stopped, I have no clue. Some people just don't think before their actions, and its usually these people who get others killed. You can spot many of these reckless people driving on the roads...the ones who likes to weave in and out of traffic at high speeds without blinkers to top it off. I've almost seen several terrible accidents because of this alone.

I live out in the countryside and we actually burn quite a bit (however, we always get a permit). Burning is actually good because it removes all leaves, grass, etc. that are inhibiting new growth. And the burning deposits nitrogen onto the soil surface which also helps to promote new growth. The trick is to not be a dumbass and burn on windy or really dry days. And make sure there are enough people helping so that it doesn't get out of control. Burning is definately not something to be done irresponsibly.

I dunno, call me a retard, but the minute you saw those knuckleheads out with the torches don't you think its time to call the Man? I mean, why let it get to the point where it COULD be a problem. Be smart, narc their asses out.

In a funny twist, turns out the fucker who set all of these fires lives on my street
