Some PSP warranty info that I heard today...

CAGiversary!
OK, here's the deal, GET THE WARRANTY! You already know this, but here's what you may not know. If you get it at EBgames, and say in the next 6 months they come out with a different color or some internal upgrade, they will replace it free, that is if you want to exchange it. My local manager even said that after 11 months if you just want to get a new one you can do that and then get the warranty on that. So basically with this warranty, you could have a new PSP in May 2006. Personally, I think thats a great deal.

Think about this: It is possible that you could conceivingly upgrade your PSP for a lot less in the future, instead of having to buy a new version (I.E. something like a PSP SP). I know that doesn't exist yet, but you never know, so the bottom line is...GET THE WARRANTY, especially from EBgames.

Hope this helps somebody out, and I hope your local manager is as good as mine.

BB's replacement plan is similar to this. They give you the amount you originally paid to use towards a new item...in my case the xbox had dropped $50, so i had an extra 50 instore credit. i'll probably exchange my box again for another before the 2 year time period is up...especially if there is significant price drop.

Sam Goody's warranty works like Best Buy's also. That's one reason I'll only get a PSP if Sam Goody gets my preorder right. EB is good if you just want updated hardware, but I like the Sam Goody/Best Buy style better because you can use the extra credit towards games.

Even though I kinda said as much, I just thought I'd post to make it clearer. rvdrock I think basically you're thinking EBgames does what Best Buy does with their warranty, but they don't as far as I know. If you trade in your PSP you get a PSP nothing more or less I think.

I know someone already asked, but I'll ask again - does anyone know what the price would be at Best Buy?

I almost never buy an extended warranty, but if they offer a replacement policy I probably will do it. If I drop it and it breaks or if I damage the screen, I'd like to be able to swap it without a hassle. I think it makes sense for portable devices, to a certain extent. I'd pay $40-50 for that.

Alright, I never said I was expecting to get anything different, I was just saying its cool how if they do come up with an upgrade, all you would have to do is pay the difference. And sorry, but I thought the fact that could get a new PSP no matter what in 11 months was worth posting. I mean of course you'd want a newer one, that way it would last longer...at least I would hope so. So yeah, I understand its just a trade in for a PSP...but right now thats all I would want to trade it for. Either way, the warranty is a GREAT thing.

If I get a PSP and a warranty from best buy, can I go in there 6 months later when a newer version comes out and just say "I want the newer version!!", or do I have to do some social engineering?

I wasn't saying you messed up man I just wanted to clear it up for people. Your post seemed like it was insinuating that getting a warranty at EB would let people get a PSP later that is different. I guess if it was just hardware they changed they could, but I figure people should know Best Buy and place like that would be a little easier with them giving out a rebate that you can use on anything.

CompUSA is giving extended warranty on the PSP wheither you purchase it at their store or not. I have called them and confirmed that it is correct, but you might want to call them yourself just to make sure. If you guys bought your PSP at a store that doesn't have extended warranty offers, I suggess you take your receipt from the store you bought it from and take it to CompUSA.

Correct me if my spellings are wrong.

wow reallly? can anyone confirm this?

My toys r us also cnfirmed that the service plan will be 29.99, and instead of trying to fix it(since price of labor is too high for such a little spohisicated device, it would be replace FREE, even if the smallest thing goes wrong including dead pixels

Folks, read the fine print on ANY warranty you sign.
Take a close look at the EBGames ESA and you'll see that it only covers manufacturer defects, REGARDLESS of what the manager will tell you.
If you don't have it in writing, YOU DON'T HAVE IT.

As it is, I'll be purchasing a Gamestop PRP on my PSP, given Sony's shoddy track record with first-gen hardware. I have no delusions that they'll just give me another one in a few months, especially if it works fine. But if the thing stops reading UMD's or something silly happens with that square button, I'll be prepared.

I wouldnt call the EB one a warranty as they only allow you to exchange it once regardless if the new one breaks in the 1 year time frame. Its more of a exchange it for free once ticket.

Tis true, They return the item to their store and sell it back to you with the the warranty.
doesn't the thing come with a 1 year warranty from sony regardless?
Pretty sure its 90 days...

Doing anything through Sony will involve a great deal of hassle including shipping of the unit. They also will not replace it on a made up excuse just because you feel the newer units are made better or somehow improved. The paid warranties often let you get away with quite a lot.

Ever own a PS2?

myke.
...slightly bothered at the prospect of EB's warranty. Must go read up on it.

Ok I bought the psp 1 year warranty when I first bought my psp. Recently I scratched up the screen pretty badly. I looked at the warranty info and it says it does not cover accidents, misuse or abuse but only mechanical and electrical problems. Are you sure they will replace it for me???

I have a question. i got a psp last christmas and got the 12 month warranty from eb games. I dropped it a few weeks ago and it produced a large scratch on it. I was wondering two things. One, can the warranty be used in this situation, and two, do i need any paperwork or should they have the waranty on file?

More than likely, you're gonna have to swallow this one. Most warranties don't cover accidents if they're the owner's fault. The warranty is there in case the thing breaks down on it's own sometime in the first year. I'd read the entire warranty again and see exactly what it covers. You might need a magnifying glass to read the small print but that will probably have the important information. The other thing you can do is to call EB and ask if they would replace it. And for chrissakes, don't give them your personal information when you call.

If you do get a new PSP, buy a Playgear Pocket and some screen protectors. The Pocket will run you between $15-$20 and the screen protectors shouldn't be more than a couple bucks at this time.
