someone please give me their opinon on dot hack dvds
are the dvds good? the characters in the series look similar to the ones in game whats up with that? and where can i find a good deal on these dvds?
I haven't personally played the game but I heard the series and the games go hand in hand.

I watched Sign (the first series) and it is done very well, I enjoyed it. I hear the same with legend of twilight (2nd series).

If you're interested, I have in my sale list Vol. 1 of Sign and Vol. 1 and 2 of legend of twilight for 5 dollars each shipped.

I would wait on Hack if you have waited this long. The Anime Legends edition of it is due out in August or September. The whole series wil be about 50 bucks

Bandai will be releasing .hack//SIGN: Anime Legends collection on 8/22/06. It is a brick packaging and listed at $49.98 (you should be able to get it for around $35).

.hack//SIGN goes hand-in-hand with the .hack//Infection, Mutation, Outbreak, Quarantee video games.

.hack//Legend of the Twilight is a shorter, chibi version, if you are into that sort of thing.

Bandai has licensed the new anime series .hack//ROOTS, and will also be releasing .hack//G.U. (4 volumes) video games. Again, they go hand-in-hand, I think.

There are only a few character types so all characters in the games and series will look similar.

The DVDs are okay, the animation is amazing but very little is actually accomplished in the series making the ending a bit underwhelming.

Just to make it a bit clearer. It's not a special edition. It's more like a cheap release with only the discs in a multi-compartment case (a brick). Then, $50 MSRP for 6 discs (.hack//SIGN) is a very good deal if you don't mind losing the inserts and artworks.

Anyway, you should get the soundtrack CDs too. They kick ass!

I bought the games but havent played them yet - what are the extra dvds that are included of? Episodes that would come in this $50 collection?
Should the DVDs be watched before or after the games?
To be honest it doesn't matter, they sort of just tie-in at a certain point IIRC and things click together from there. You could probably do either first as long as the DVDs are //Sign. You might wanna try out the games first as they have an anime DVD with them that will give you at least some what of an idea about the series is like.

The included ones are .hack//LIMINALITY (sp?) I think. They are a different OVA series, a companion series of sorts to the game and //SIGN, and they're not in the aforementioned $50 .hack//SIGN collection. As far as I know they are only available with the games (at least here in the states).

Extract from .hack//SIGN Defragmented:

.hack//SIGN
The TV anime series is the foundation prior to Aura's Awakening. The story focuses on Tsukasa's inability to log out of the server and the search for the mysterious "Key of the Twilight." The storyline is told from The World's point of view.
.hack
A 4 volume game released by Bandai for the Playstation2, this takes place right after The Awakening (when Aura wakes up.) The storyline is told from the Real World's point of view.
.hack//LIMINALITY
The 4 part OVA tells of events that run parallel to the events in the game. It also covers the pre-awakening period from the Real World's point of view. The OVA will be shipped per each of the 4 volume games.
I thought the dot hack series was boring. Its very slow paced, and not much happens in it.
I thought they were very slow as well. Lots of story, but think of it more like the Matrix minus the best part, the action. This comment is regarding .hack//SIGN

.hack Legend of the Twilight Bracelet I have no comment on, it looks too cheesy and kiddy for me though.

The whole .hack series was really really slow it was all story no action and the story wasnt great imo (i am refering to .hack//sign) But its worth a watch if youve played the games

I personally liked .hack//SIGN, but as stated before it is a little slow paced. In my opinion it does not detract from the anime in any way. The animation and character development are superb. The game takes place in the same world, but has a different story. Some characters from the anime make appearances, but they aren't integral to the story, thus you can do either first. However I would recommend the anime first, because some of the cameos in the game might not make sense.
