Something interesting my local GameCrazy manager told me...

I asked my local GameCrazy manager if there was any news on the 360s and filling their preorders. He told me that the 360s that Microsoft shipped to Europe for the Euro-release were not all sold. Something like 100,000 of the 250,000 they shipped.

Anyway, he said that Microsoft was taking the ones that didn't sell and started shipping them out to US stores. My local GameCrazy recieved 6 of those last week, and possibly more this week (which I'll be able to get, as I'm 4th in like :) ).

I didn't see this posted anywhere else, so more info (for other stores) would be appreciated.

last week my gamecrazy got 15 to fulfill pre orders on thursday. 2 of the next 15 in line cancelled and wanted their 50 bucks back. I dont knwo about the mcoming from anywhere specific, but i wouldnt doubt it.

Do you know if they recieved them as a result of the Euro-release?

All reports have pointed to the X360 completely selling out in Europe. Plus, there would be issues with power adapters, AV cables, and various internal settings in the 360's that would make this a nightmare.

I don't think your GameCrazy manager knows what he is talking about on this one.

Agreed. The plugs in the UK (and even the input devices, I think) are completely different, they would not work in America..

Even more so than usual.

It would be easier for MS to take unsold Xboxs from Japan and flash the bios for the US then it would be for them to take Europe models and replace parts.

I think its 1. total BS or 2. he got his info screwed up.

Yeah, Japan to US would be no problem, but Europe to US is almost impossible, unless all 360 are designed to output in PAL and NTSC and to receive power from two seperate voltages (although the latter one could probably be dealt with by using a different power brick). Although HD is a unified format, the standard output is totally incompatible (NTSC in US/Japan, PAL in Europe). Also, the standard socket voltage in Europe is twice what it is in the US, so bacially, they would have to replace all of the cords. And the fact that Europe did sell out anyway. Converting some Japanese units, however... They won't do it though. That would be admitting defeat, and no way in hell are they ready to do that yet. DOA4 isn't even out yet.
Have fun running a PAL system on your NTSC television set.
Is the 360 like the original Xbox in that it can convert PAL to NTSC fine? I remember knowing a few people who turned their Xbox into a region-free DVD player and played PAL movies on their NTSC TVs perfectly. Whether it played PAL games, I have no idea.

PAL and NTSC are different than region encoding. PAL and NTSC has to do with the frequency that the moniter (TV) output is set to.

my gamecrazy manager told me the other day that i was not a hardcore gamer unless i made out with him. i told him that i had all three current gen consoles plus a DS and that should be enough. he told me he had some exclusive trauma center schwag that he wanted to give me. he went to the back and brought back a small asian man dressed as a nurse holding a scalpel. i dropped my shit and got the fuck out. beware of your local gamecrazy manager.

yea definitely not true. as other posters have mentioned you'd have a PAL to NTSC conversion problem, the region lock, as well as a wattage difference.

I recieved a call from my local GameCrazy manager, telling me to come and finally pick up my XBOX 360.

When I get home, I discover that the wiring in PAL -- can't plug them into anything.

How the Hell did the let this happen?

We won't even mention region-specific content, either. :D

I'm surprised you didn't check it all before you left the store, given all the information all the posters gave you here. If it was shipped from Europe it obviously won't work here. Hopefully you get your money back.

I managed to, uh... cram the video cables into my television set. I used some petrolium jelly and a hammer (I wish I was kidding), and managed to squeeze them into the ports.

As for the power cable, I cut the plug off of the end of an old toaster I had in the cellar and electric taped it to the end of the power cable, in which I cut the plug off of that, as well.

Everything seems to be working now.

That can't possibly be safe...

I guess you wanted your 360 that bad...

There's no way he's serious. People aren't that stupid.

Pics? I can't believe someone would risk fuck in up the system and their TV, instead of just returning the system and waiting it out.

Yes, normally I would agree. But Brak's mind is anything but ordinary...

Erm... someone reported this thread to Microsoft and now I'm being investigated for "modding" my console.

Who was the rat?

Not me, I only reported you for modding your toaster.
