Received yester day from Amazon - thanks to Prime. Stop bragging about missing game and elements. This is AWESOME collection. 49 games for $26.99 - that's about 2 quarters for each classic Genesis game that I used pay $50 a pop.

I bought the game yesterday and my only qualm with the game is the fact that the achievements are way too easy to unlock. Why aren't the achievements given for beating the game? I'd actually feel like playing through Ecco again if the achievement wasn't given to me in the first five seconds. Most of the achievements can be unlocked after playing a game for less than 10 minutes, and most of the in game unlockables are unlocked at the same time as the achievements. There's not much to work towards.

Agreement. I hope they add a bunch of draconian 1-point achievements as DLC, so the Gamerscorers will get their easy 1000, but you and I get some challenge.

Dang, I still don't know which system to buy it for. stupid crazy idea of standardizing on one or the other!

If they'd just have a PSP version I wouldn't have this issue (still blows my mind they don't!)

How about playing the game for the sake of the game?

No kidding. I was neutral on "achievements" when they were announced, but I'm pretty negative about them ever since I've seen people online playing and buying games just for 'points', which IMO is completely messed up. (Plus personally the meta game takes me out of the game if it's something series, as most of the games I play are.)
Wait so the MSRP on this is $30. I thought it was $40? Even better Is suppose.

Either way I'll still proabbly wait a couple months
Yep, $30. Nice deal! I wish more publishers would release stuff like this (not just arcade games, which don't interest me that much).

Got Platinum on like Sunday, and I wasn't even trying, really. LOL.

Agreed on this "meta game" nonsense. It's so bad, that now I feel like I've raped the collection and don't want to look at it again for a while, even though I barely touched the games.

I'm also of the opinion that this "percentage completed" bullcrap needs to go away as well. You play a game to play a game. How you play it is how it's meant to be played. There is no predesignated way you should play a game, or else it's not freeform enough for me to want to bother with in the first place!

Also, the notification popped up on top of my character once, causing me to die. WTF!

Do you have a good strategy for beating the damn mean bean machine?

Picked this up over the weekend via pricematching @ BB (PS3 version). I honestly never played a Sega console more than once or twice when I was a kid so I'm actually really looking forward to some good old "retro" gaming. I'm also thinking about picking up one of those PS3 USB Sega 6-button controllers off of e-bay to get a little closer to the Sega experience.
Yeh, Golden Axe Warrior is a pretty decent old school Zelda game. I still got my original copy. Picked it up for $10 back in the day in the discount bin at KB Toys. Aaahhhhhh, the glory days

This collection is a must buy, what an insane collection of games. This would be what...$300 on Virtaul Console lol
$384

At 800 points a piece.

That pretty much makes this a steal at nearly 1/13th the price.

I'm waiting for the next next-gen to release the 100+ Genesis/SNES/Etc. collection or just say to hell with it and just give us the entire library for a change.

I've already done that once, achievements would be a nice way to motivate me to play through some of these a second time. It's also nice to have achievements in games that actually mean something. Instead of 20G for talking to a Dolphin in Ecco, I should get 20G for beating Phantasy Star II.

If you'll go take a look at my original post, you'll see that I'm obviously not just playing it "for the points", if so I wouldn't be complaining that the achievements are too easy. Even if you think achievements are stupid you should be able to agree that an achievement should mean something. They should be awarded for beating a game, not doing something within the first level. Like I said, I already own a lot of these games on the Genesis and have beaten them before, so achievements are a nice way to push me to play them a second time.

After managing to beat mean bean machine somehow last night, it was pretty easy to get the platinum trophy. I do kind of wish some of the trophies were a bit more difficult... it might actually get me to play the games I don't feel like playing.

I don't understand why anyone bothers to care whether some people like achievements and play games for that reason, and some don't. Who cares? I don't see how it affects you negatively if someone buys this game, supporting a great package, simply because they want the achievements. It's win win in my book.

I'm playing some of these games to get the trophies, that I wouldn't normally mess with. You know what? Fatal Labyrinth is actually pretty fun, simple, and seems a good thing to do while listening to music. +1 for trophies for putting me onto that game. Then there's Decap Attack, another game I wouldn't have bothered with that I actually like quite a lot, +1 for trophies.

I like trophies and achievements because they get me to do things in games that I normally wouldn't, and a lot of the time those things make me like the game more. For instance, Uncharted, I never would have attempted that game on Crushing without the trophy for doing it. But I did, and as a result Uncharted is my favorite game this gen. Playing that game on crushing is an amazing experience. It requires that you use every tool at your disposal, from guns, to melee to the environment to get through it. By the time I was done I felt the game was perfect.

At the end of the day, I say live and let live. If some people play games just for trophies/achievements, so what? Who cares?

Also, buy this collection, especially if you like achievements and trophies, it's a lot of fun IMO. I bought this on PS3 because of the DPad, I can't imagine playing this collection with the 360 controller's horrible dpad.

Yeah. *sigh* I suppose I should just pick up the Playstation one and be done with it, 'cause a lot of these games might be a lot less fun on the 360 :whistle2:/

I sure hope they do another collection!

Still disagree with the achievements thing although I sort of see your point. But...people should play something because they enjoy it, not for this 'points' meta game.

Unfortunately Microsoft's psychologists have hit upon something brilliant I guess :(
