Hard to do when you're a publicly owned company. Investors want to know what's going on.

Yeah, but I'm sure this is bad news if you're an investor. At this rate, the PS2 will probably sell like crazy because people can't get their hands on a PS3.

Nintendo planned there's perfectly( launching 2 days after the ps3). with 4 million units ready to go, parents desperate for a new system will snap em up. the 360 should also benefit from ps3's fuck ups.

You mean the Wii and 360 will sell like crazy. Kids won't want the old systems. They want the new stuff so they can brag in school about it.

True, but NO news is worse than bad news. When your product this close to launch, you can't afford to keep your mouth shut. Investors will drop your stock in moment if they feel things are too quiet at such a crucial time.

this is mostly speculation. They've taken things quite out of context. They're just saying that it's possible that they may not meet targets, not that it's definite they won't. Frickin bloggers........

A big company like sony isn't going to say something like this if it isn't going to happen. The truth is probably worse.

Several media sources have now posted new information. Bloomberg got the information incorrect. The shortage that they reported was the one that caused the European launch to be pushed back. Japan and US will still easily meet targets.

Honestly, if it weren't for the media anymore, we might actually get good information.

Maybe the PS3 really is a George Foreman grill in disguise which is why they keep cutting the projected launch line-up.

I doubt they'll hit their projected 2 million by the end of the year. I'd be surprised if they made it to 1 million. Unfortunately for people like Sega and Bethesda who rushed a few games to make launch, it looks like that they might be screwed simply because there aren't enough PS3s to go around.

No kidding. If you're a company with launch titles the last thing you want to hear is a possible shortage of consoles on shelves.

As much as some people think delays benefit systems for the sake of hype/publicity, it's going to make the PS3 look like shit when they compare sales to other systems. I can see it already, soon as the November sales charts come out it'll be all about selling like shit for the PS3 but doing awesome on the 360, only because the user base is 7x the size.

on the other hand, shortages seem to be desirable to hardware makers...pretty bad conflict of interests! Launch = beta test + hype building

Is this really news though? We all knew they were having production problems. I can't say that I am surprised nor can I say that I really care.

No this isnt news at all.

This only says that sony MIGHT not hit there TARGET of 2million by end of 06 and 6 million by march 07.

Doesnt effect the launch numbers at all.

Or, in the case of this message board, fanboy excitement about possible downfall of Sony turns to nothing but overexaggerated claims. You'd think at some point people would just sit back and see how the next 6 months go. I guess it's a bit too much to ask.

i dont think exploding batteries or dead batteries will stop a company from launching a faulty system.. if this happens in 2 out of 10 boxes sold then there really isnt a problem at all.. all system at launch have some sort of problems in the beginning.. im not even sure if most people know that the system actually does not have a rumble function for the controller....

its not going to stop people from buying it, nor it will stop people from hyping too much about it. i guess my point is that they will release it on the day they said its going to be released. to me, this is just another way to create even more hype, although investors are the only ones that suffers the most when it comes to bad news about the system.

i mean do you really think they are having another production problem? didnt we all experience this when the PS2 came out? its almost the same exact scenario, and believe me, it will work the second time, only at a much higher scale. im sure they even tried (or thought of) to pull the same stunt for the PSP.
