Sony to launch smaller Playstation 2 console- PSTwo **NOW WITH PHOTO**
Does Sony make all of the parts of the PS2 (Processor, Ram, GPU, motheboard, etc) or does someone else make them for Sony?
Originally Sony didn't have its own facilities for high-end chip production and hadn't really needed them. They got serious with the PS2. The engineering samples were all outsourced or done at partner Toshiba's plant. Since there has been a lot of integration of the chipset it's now probably all internal to Sony except for the RAM chips. I don't recall for sure but since it's RAMBUS it's either Toshiba or Hynix.

Hmmm.... Sure they cut the mobo down a hair but the main reasons that it is smaller is because they removed the HD bay, moved the psu to outside of the unit, and went to a toploader. Sure they added a network port (which is a great idea) but otherwise they have not done much to change the system. I really expected something more like a PSone or something. Guess I expected too much from something that was obviously a minor revision. I just worry that if mine breaks (still have my warranty at store I bought it) that they won't let me exchange it for this new style system.

He probably meant something shaped like the PSone but I certainly dont mind the new version especially since it's WAY more compact than that picture I posted!

AHAHAHAHA that last picture is hilarious!

I cannot imagine how they could have made it any more like a PSone while maintaining the style of the PS2. There is also the issue of the need for additional ports not found on a PSone: 2 USB and IR for DVD remote, as well as the greater number of ports in back for SP/DIF, etc.

I meant, I thought it would look more like a toy and less like the current PS2. I don't expect it to look identical to a PSone given the fact that is has more buttons and more features but I thought we'd see something to that extent. I am happy that they added in a network port though and I'm really impressed by its size. And keeping the style similar to the previous PS2 does make sense. Again, I just wanted something entirely different since I already have a PS2. I was obviously expecting too much from what amounts to a minor redesign. Not that it matters, I have a PS2 that works fine and have no room in my entertainment stand for another top loading console.
