PSP version of Stealth will feature the first three levels of Wipeout Pure.

Often when a movie bombs at the box office, its distributor tries some sort of gimmick to get people to buy it on DVD. Typically, this means a slew of extras, like the feature-length commentary track on Without a Paddle or, in the case of Alexander, a drastically re-edited "director's cut."

However, today Sony announced a new strategy to get home video consumers to pick up a film they shunned in theaters. Today, the company announced the first game-movie hybrid UMD, which will feature both a feature-length film and a playable game on a single disc.

On November 15, Sony will release the military sci-fi film Stealth, which slipped under most summer moviegoers' radar, on UMD. The portable version of the $130-million-budget, $31-million-grossing film will come with the first three levels of the best-selling PSP racing game Wipeout Pure. It will also feature a "Stealth" track not found in the regular version of the game, which will let players race as the advanced fighter jet from Stealth. However, it will still sport the same three modes (single race, zone, and time trial) and speed levels (vector/beginner, venom/intermediate, and flash/expert) as the full game.

Dubbed "Wipeout Pure: Stealth Edition," the truncated game will be on the same UMD as the film, a first for the format. The UMD will also include the PSP 2.0 firmware upgrade, which installs an Internet browser on the portable multimedia device/game deck.

Unfortunately, those hoping to get both Stealth and Wipeout Pure: Stealth Edition at a bargain price are out of luck. The disc will retail for $39.95, which is more than the $19.95-$29.95 MSRP for UMD movies but less than most UMD games, which typically sell for $49.99.

A good, promising way to bring movies and games together on the UMD format or crappy way to get more money for shitty movies by including part of a good game?

crappy way to get more money for shitty movies...maybe if some anime umds come with little fighter games or something, but I dunno what else would be worth it.

The movie wasn't that shitty, you just have to skip the first 45minutes - 1 hour of it. After that the talking stops and the action starts. Its kind of like The Transporter (first, don't know about second), the action's awesome, the rest sucks.

I wasn't speaking about this movie in particular, more for the future that could possible see crappy movie A getting packed with good game B to get money for movie A that it wouldn't normally see on it's own without game B.

Not a bad idea, but like most of us, hopefully we will get a great movie packed with a great game, now that would be a deal. Btw I bet some place like Walmart will sell this for $28.88 or something crazy like that...anyways thanks Frisky.

Holy shit, they spent 130 million on that filck, and I'm sure that doesn't even include marketing. God, no wonder Independent films are gaining ground on big studio movies.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, either do it all or don't do it at all. Either include the entire game or leave it out, doing it half-assed isn't going to help it all especially at the $40 price tag. It's the same reason there is no point in my local sears carrying 3 gamecube games, 3 xbox games, and 3 Playstation 2 games.

So what search keywords worked for you to find this 'repost'? I tried using , Sony Wipeout UMD,/ Sony, Stealth, Wipeout, Sony UMD stealh wipout/ and more and could only find this one.

Oi, checks this. What if, and this is just hypothetical, aite, they included Ace Combat, or an Ace Combat clone wif da game, right? Right, so then YOU can do the action scenes yourself. Yeah? Yeah? Am I right?
So use the PSP best selling feauture (movies) and combine it with their worst (games) and maybe it might sell.....hmmm
Are you really so bored and lonely you have nothing better to do than troll a message board?
The first UMD to use all of the features was a porn UMD, it had photos, video, music, and a game.
GAH! I would buy a hybrid UMD that contains both a game and a movie. Just not this movie. And the fact that the game they include (Wipeout Pure) only include the FIRST THREE LEVEL(!!!) makes this deal even more stupid. $40 for a craptacular movie and a demo????
