Sony's Cross-Buy Announcement

Sony is killing it. As a launch day owner of a VITA and someone who plays it regularly this is awesome. Cloud Saves is great. It will be nice to be able to go back and forth. I hope more people jump into the VITA landscape as it's a wonderful device.
Actually, you've got it backwards. You can have one account on several memory cards as long as they are used on the Vita the account is registered to. You can also have up to two Vitas registered to a PSN account, but I don't know if you'd be able to share a memory card between the two.

I think I know where you got that from. You can only have one PSN account per memory card according to Sony, though I have read stuff to the contrary- apparently, you can store content from multiple accounts on one card, but you cannot access games from the inactive accounts. So in order to use the games bought with the currently inactive accounts, you have to restore your Vita to make the current account inactive, and the account with the content which you want to play active.
Oh wow, I didn't know this either and I have a Vita. I thought you had to re-format or restart the system or something every time you entered a different memory card.
Of course it was going to happen, but none of the games to feature it were coming out until Fall so I understand why they waited.

I think he has a point though, they probably needed to come up with something different from simple vouchers to avoid rampant exploitation, so that might be another reason for the delayed announcement.
Well, I don't think sony cares... but I'm sure the publishers do. However, I hear that porting the game over (with no new touch features and stuff) is very easy to do so maybe we'll get lots of games making the jump. It'd be what the Wii-U promises to do but allows you to take it on the go instead of just change the channel. This is something that excites me... getting "free" versions of games I already own? not so much.

That's like saying you should get the Xbox 360 version of any PS3 game you buy because it's a version of a game you already own. Stop being dense. You aren't entitled to Vita versions of PS3 games that you buy.
The problem was this was going to happen any way... Sure a few people would pay $100 ($60 for ps3 and $40 for vita) so they can play across both systems but the majority of people would only buy one or the other anyway. So, at least this way they appease the masses and push the idea of owning both systems (which is where sony gets the majority of their money).
no Sony gets the majority of money from SOFTWARE sales, not hardware. I dont think this really helps the Vita much at all bc Sony sells each system at a loss but now they are also losing potential profits from a game by giving it away free with a PS3 version purchase. They really need to start pushing exclusive Vita games and keep the ports to a mimimum if they want to profit off the system

I'm pretty sure the idea behind this promotion is to get people to buy a Vita so that they do purchase the exclusives.
I'm kind of surprised that Little Big Karting and Metal Gear Solid 5 aren't part of this. They likely will be added as they near launch.
Karting has no announce Vita version and the other is Konomi and probably isn't Vita either. So you surprise is surprising.

Do I want a 360 version too? no... will I pay more for a vita version? no... That's my point. Why should I pay twice for the same game? If I was sony I'd kick a little money to anyone who ports their PS3 game to the vita for free. This insures that people with all 3 systems (360/Wii-U & PS3 & Vita) will buy the PS3 version over the other 2.

They only sell at a "loss" due to development costs. After that's covered they're all profitable. They need to sell units in general. This is a way to do that. If people don't have systems in their hands they're not buying the games. So, noone is going to make games for the Vita.

Exactly this! If I have a vita for this cross play stuff. I'm probably going to want to pick up those interesting exclusives that I see floating around. Look at the PS2. That sold in japan as a dvd player... then games started flying off the shelves because people already had the system so why not pick up some games.

This is all a brilliant ploy for Sony to take it MILLIONS off sales of vita memory cards

Seriously, 50 bucks for 16GB? And how big will a game like PS all stars be?

You don't have to reformat it at all. Just make sure the power is off when you switch them (but that goes for pretty much all devices). The most it may have to do is rebuild the database, but it doesn't require reformatting or a restore to default settings. The icons can get all mixed around though- mainly because the icons for retail games stay on the Vita no matter what memory card you have inserted. Digital game icons only appear if they are on the memory card.
