Sony's David Reeves hints at 120GB PS3 for Europe

It appears that Sony has quite different plans for the PAL market where hard drive size for PS3 is concerned - the company has hinted that a 120GB version could well be in the pipeline.

SCEE president and CEO David Reeves has said the leap of 20GB from 60 to 80GB which has occurred in the US is too small a jump in capacity, but 120GB? Now you're talking...

"The difference between 60 and 80GB is very small, we just feel that going up 20GB is not worth it," Reeves told Norwegian website Dagbladet.

However, "If you go to double it, it's worth it", he added. "So maybe you'll see something a little bit later."

Speaking about the recently announced PS3 Starter Pack for PAL territories and why Sony's chosen to do that, Reeves explained "We believe added value works in the PAL territories".

"We don't think it's necessary to reduce the price", he continued. "We think that consumers want added value in Europe. We think it's the right decision."

The right decision from Sony's point of view maybe, but somehow we feel that European punters would be far happier to see the company cut the price of its console.

Heck, they already have the gimped, non-EE hardware, so only going up by 20GB would be another kick in the nuts. :whistle2:s

Hopefully, this will push Sony to do 80GB w/o EE @ $499.99 and a 120GB w/o EE for $599.99 w/bundled game into the holiday season. Assuming they still don't stick to the "the market likes one SKU" mentality.
When will Sony learn, we want lower prices! Not bigger hard-drives.
sony ehhh only thing that they ever lowered down was my self esteem
at least psp is 170 and once th e slim lines come out the old ones will lower..but then they'll fase out and force us to buy there slim....dam sony..and there good looking systems lol

This is for Europe, no complaining needed.

They aren't getting the 80gb version so they are getting the 120gb one instead it seems.

By that logic, we shouldn't speak about how MS is doing in japan. And yet, we continue to do so.

Sony has been prone to not following logic lately, but I agree with that marketing concept completely. Regardless of how it's packaged or how many SKUs, they NEED a $499.99 or lower price point to move systems, as is evidenced by the significant jump in sales at all the major online and B&M retailers on the 60Gig model.

Of course, users can DIY their own HDDs, but perception is everything in the mass market.

That reminds me, I should check the PS3 faq on what the HDD size limit (if any) is.

This is different. There is no reason for people to complain about it being more expensive since it won't even be available for them to purchase unless they import it for some reason.

360's are cheaper in Japan than here, THAT would be a relevant arguement, but I haven't seen any complaining about that.

Sorry, but you are going to have to look at what I quoted you for saying.

You said:

As if since it is in Europe, and this is a north american website, we do not need to talk about anything gaming related that happens there.

why not talk ab this???
becuz if the 120gb modle come out there
we may get it or sumthing alittle bigger or alittle s maller
so we may have aa ps3 that has around 100+gb

I know what you quoted. I did say no complaining becuase there is no point in complaining about the price since we can't buy it anyways.

I never said don't talk about it, I just said there's no reason to complain about it.
