Chungking - Stay Up Forever (album)

edit: forgot, here is my review of this album

Chungking - Stay Up Forever

With Chungking's new one Stay Up Forever, half of it has sound of their first album which was an electronica version of late 30's and early 40's female lounge music and the other half has the sound of an 80's version of Ladytron. It kicks off with a poppy song called Ticking, about time crawling along as people keep doing the same stuff over and over again. Love Is Here To Stay is a rocking song about love and it can be a mess but you need it to live. If anyone had class, this would be the single. The next song Itch & Scratch sounds right at home with the song TV Killed The Radio Star as its synth goodness. But though that makes it sound dated, its a really cool song and I see a shit load of remixes comming from it as the catchy lyrics of never being able to get in the right groove but always in the mood to dance. The next song which is the title track Stay Up Forever would be the popular choice for the single as its really catchy (in a mainstream sense) as its about dancing around town with no worries in the world. On thier first album, there is a song called We Love You and the next song I Love You I guess you could say is a follow up to it but with a slightly stripped down sound. This is the song on this album that really shows off her voice and it wouldn't surprise me if it was recorded in the early 40's with its classic slow loving sound. Baby kicks it back into a upbeat sound with her shouting on the top of a roof that she is in love. An upbeat funky soulful song is next called Slow It Down about her telling someone that though she loves them, they are moving too fast so she wants slow it down........Ah fuck it. It's an ElectroPop album that sounds amazing (even the songs that really don't fit her voice), the lyrics are really catchy and no matter what, when you hear it, it makes you dance. And isn't that all you ask for when it comes to an album like this? I can''t wait for my pre-order to get to me and hopefully this gets the press that their first album should have got.

Canibus - For Whom the Beat Tolls (album)

People who are down with Canibus: shit is HOT.

edit: man, he just dropped a line from Call of Cthulhu.
You should slit your wrists in protest......and remember, go up the arm, not across
They were never a "I'm gonna hurt myself because you left me" type of band, more like a "I hope you die in a horrible car accident" type.
