Soul Calibur Legends (adventure game) heading to Wii

hopefully it's not, and more like MK: Shaolin Monks.

A soul caliburish God of War ripoff with waggle? Sold.

Finally, Namco Responsed my answer. I sended them email letter when Soul Calibur 2 released about adventure (action/hack/slash). Oh man, it took them that long .....................

What they should do is not screw around with trying to half ass an action game and just implement the soul caliber fighting system into the game. Sure it may be work, but I never bought MK: Shaolin Monks because of hey it is another god of war clone set in the MK universe and I will not buy this one if it is the same. Now take that whole mode from SC III Chronicals of the Sword I think it was called (the rts ripoff), and make it a full game, there you have me sold.

 That post is funny for multiple reasons.

This... might be good.

Hope its a real adventure game and not just a fleshed out version of the quest modes in the previous games (i.e. walk around freely but combat switches into normal fighting game screen and the fighting is the same as in the past 3 games).

I have no interest in fighting games with motion control (prefer regular controller/arcade stick), but would give it a go if it was a more simplified combat system ala Zelda or God of War--i.e. a real adventure game.

If Hwang isn't in it, should I care?

...

Yes, yes I should. Despite the loss of a character with a giggle-inducing name.

And even though that would make for some prime Hwangmotation.

1up has a little more info on the game:
UPDATE: 1UP has the full scoop on Soul Calibur's next move -- read on.

We have little doubt Namco Bandai's working on a full-fledged fighting Soul Calibur sequel, but they're preparing a little diversion for the Nintendo fans in the audience: Soul Calibur Legends. Exclusive to the Wii platform, Soul Calibur Legends involves plenty of combat, but not in the traditional Soul Calibur sense -- this one's a third person action adventure.

The announcement suggests Seigfried takes point in the storyline, but Namco Bandai promises players will play their favorites from the series -- and even introduce some new faces, too. We know little of the story, though, other than understanding the characters come together to complete "a quest for ultimate power in order to save an empire from destruction."

"Over the past ten years, since the release of the original Soul Blade, the team behind the Soulcalibur series has pushed the envelope of technology and innovation with each iteration," said Makoto Iwai, exec. VP and COO of Namco Bandai America. "With Soulcalibur Legends, they saw the opportunity to once again create an immersive experience that is unique to the franchise."

The control scheme's being kept under wraps, but is said to incorporate both the Wiimote and nunchuck simultaneously. There should be something more than simply swinging the Wiimote around, just don't expect the same depth as the fighting series. As more fighting experience is gathered, however, players can earn titles (i.e. Knight, Soldier) that unlock additional attacks.
No word on when this one's arriving -- but enjoy some high-resolution artwork while we wait.
Could be interesting once I see some footage of the game in action.
Hopefully it's a lot like Mortal Kombat: Mythologies.
Special Forces or Sub-Zero? Because they're both awesome, of course, but different shades of awesome. ;)

Yes it could be if they don't just say hey lets make god of war with a different controll scheme. I never really cared for those type of games because of the bad camera, and the go into room, kill everything next room, kill everything, repeat, boss (except for 2D games but thats a different story). If they made it more zelda like I would enjoy it a lot more. This could prove interesting, and I am not hating the game, but it seems that if they just went the lets clone god of war I would hate it. Either way I don't think that will happen due to the depth that goes into SC games or atleast I hope, lol.

I don't see the Zelda-style of game working for the SC universe, but the God of War-style works well for it, as the concept art suggests it'll be. Worrying about the camera on the Wii should be a bigger concern since there's no second analog stick just for that, which hurt Zelda:TP IMO.

You missed out then, because MK Shaolin Monks was awesome.

Shaolin Monks kicks ASS. Since you guys are some of the only people I have technically spoken to that have played it, could you tell me how far I am? I think the last dude me and my friend beat was Baraka, and we now have the wall run and the other technique you get by wall running up that pedestal in Baraka's chamber.
Short, but awesome.
Agreed. And I would add that it contained the best Co-Op seen in a game in quite some time.

SCL sounds interesting, but what the hell happened to the DS Soul Calibur game?

Fake?

If they have multiple lead characters, I hope there is some hidden palate swap or extra character with full move set based on link from SC2. Simply because I would love 1-to-1 with the master sword.
If this game is good, it's the only other reason I'm gonna want to keep my Wii besides Super Smash bros.
No More Heroes will be worth the wait as well if you're into games focusing on style.

Hmm... Hopefully it is decent. i could see it having a lot of potential. I was really upset when SC 3 didn't make it to the GC and Xbox...
Guys, don't forget, this could INSTEAD be Death by Degrees 2, so watch with a wary eye.
Yea but with waggle, it can't fail.

Blegh, Wii Boxing should have taught you all: Button mashing is button mashing, whether the mashing in question is just spazzing out with the Wiimote or hitting actual buttons.

If you equate Wii Boxing to button mashing, you weren't doing it right. In fact, if you tried to 'button mash' Wii boxing, I bet 99% of your punches wouldn't even do anything.

Tell that to the eight or so dudes I layed out.

I just got the new Nintendo Power with this in it. This game didn't start of on the Wii and the team that is creating this game is said in the article to be a dream team. They actually said people in house are jealous of the team working on it. They know that most Wii controls haven't lived up to what they could be. They want this game to be fun with the remote and to work well. They said the game is an action-adventure but it will be more action. There aren't a lot of moving block puzzles or things like that. They are trying to push the hardware as they like to get the best visuals. Runs at 60fps.

If anything it sounds like more than we've gotten thus far from most developers. It's easy to give in to hyped previews but so far it sounds pretty good.

I bet they totally have the coolest table in the cafeteria.
will this make anyone happy? ;)
When you learn how to thumbnail images, sure, that'll make me happy.

Looks great to me - it had me moving my arm as if I was playing the game.

The character designs look - to me - exactly as I remember them from the First Soul Calibur - different from how I remember them looking in 2 and 3. That's cool with me.
