SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]

Got my copy of Soul Calibur IV today. Anyone have anything you'd like tested/impressions to look out for?

I'll post up/play all night after I get back from my showing of Dark Knight...

Ivy's 2P is disappointing---her tits were supposed to be hanging out.

Can't wait to see the horrendous lag.

::Guard Impact happens 90 frames later::

Hey Namco still hasn't announced the last two slots on the character list. Does this mean the announcement could any day next week or wait til the game? I really wonder if its the star wars characters. It would snap in well considering the first two are Darth Vader or Yoda and the Apprentice. If the other two are star wars then the first row is star wars completely.

@MarkMan - I'll like two things for you to answer if you come across them.
1-The identity of the two mystery slots
2-Details about CAS

Kotaku showed some pictures of the game being played on a shop by someone. It show the character selection screen which everyone has already seen. But one thing I hadn't noticed before is that your psn name appears on the main menu with your psn picture.

The top character slot row is: Vader/Yoda, Starkiller, still currently unknown, Star

If you select the star in the upper right hand corner, you can select any of the guest fighters (clone fighters designed by various artists). That means there's really only one character that has yet to be revealed, most likely a "random set of moves" fighter like Edge Master in SC1.

Does online allow for spectators, or is it just one on one? Which system are you playing on, and how is the lag?

How does Tower of Souls mode work? Can you save your progress after fights in ToS mode, or does it play more like a survival mode where you have to start over each time? What's the difference between going up or down in the tower?

Do you think the gameplay is closer to SC III, SC II, or the original SC?

That, and anything you care to say about the create a fighter mode would be great. Congrats on getting a copy so far before the street date.

Is Cassandra still as bad ass as she's always been?

Upper right hand star? I'm seeing a picture of the character selection and there is no star. Just a empty slot as everywhere. The fighter of random moves is Algol isn't it? And even if it was I find the placement too weird. You choose the bonus characters and the cas from the icon to the left of the question mark. The rest are full fledged characters. That is as far as I can tell from the picture. I could be wrong but that is how I feel the list flow.

Then you're not looking at the latest character select screen. Algol is the last boss character. He is playable and can be seen in the lower right corner of the selection screen. The icon to the left of ? is the create a fighter select, but the ? itself is a random character select. As said, the star can be seen in the upper right corner in this screen.

Starkiller isn't on there, but appears right next to Vader when unlocked. That leaves one final character to be revealed. Hope that explained everything.

Also, if the 15 minute video hasn't been posted here yet, take a look:
[edit]For some reason, it's not letting me post the URL. Perhaps if you quote me you can see it, but I don't understand why that's happening.

Ah I see. Thanks for the info. That last one could really be Kratos! jk. Just one more week.

Gosh I really want to see that 15 min video. Why don't you try entering it as normal text instead of linking it?

That was a pretty cool video, and it was nice to see a guy or two that had actually played a SC ever. I had to laugh at the talim guy playing against Yoda because all he did was horizontal attacks!

Some of their comments were pretty good too, man Im pumped dammit!

MM, I'd really apreciate it if you could tell us if the AI is as broken as SCIII's. In SCIII, it almost seemed if you didn't guard impact every attack they launched, you didn't stand a chance. It was ridiculous when trying to learn a new character (why I still can't play Zasalamel)

I will report soon...

My friends and I are about to have a tournament...

Didn't bother with online mode yet, but I will tonight.

Just kicked all my friends out. We had an 18 man tournament lol. (I won!) So that took awhile. I'll be unlocking everything/testing online etc.

Good news is that converters work flawlessly with it(good ones).

I'll get to everyone's questions sometime tomorrow. I'm going to be gone for awhile playing the game. I won't be playing on my MarkManSDT PSN ;P just my other one. So plz don't bombard with msgs! (Some people on another site already did that -_- )
What kind of video is it? It might be trying to embed it on it's own.

Try linking it as text.
I already did try linking it. Can you see it if you quote that post, or does that not work?

[edit] This worked. Just put "tt" in the http, and you'll be good to go.

Perhaps all the gaming talent left for GiantBomb.com, in addition to the editorial talent. :D

Thought of a couple other questions about CaS mode: Are custom fighters used in the random select, or is there anyway to set up the random select to include them? Can custom fighters be traded online?

K!

You unlock the guest characters by completing story mode scenarios with the default cast. This includes Angol Fear, Ashlotte, Kamikirimusi, Scheherazade, & Shura.

You can purchase the rest of the main cast that is grayed out on the main characater select screen. They are 4000 G each.

For Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice you have to unlock him by beating arcade mode with Darth Vader/Yoda. He will show up as the sub boss before Angol.

Random notes:

- In the museum mode you can view the endings again. There is a LOT of content you can unlock as well.
- In 300 + matches of play not once did anyone land a Critical Finish. So don't worry about it breaking the game.

So has the Kratos rumor been confirmed as false? I feel stupid even asking, but I was pretty excited when I first heard that rumor.

July 20, 2008 - Who is the last spot?

It looks like the last spot is really next to vader/yoda instead of next to the bonus slot (star). And everyone knows how much namco loves DLC (Ace combat 6, Katamari) and how they said they were trying to please all the fans and how much of an outcry there was for both characters to be in both versions AND also on the soul calibur commercial thats playing alot it shows both vader and yoda fighting without saying anything about console specifics.

Conclusion: the last spot is for yoda / vader. You heard it here first!

Kotaku posted a story about 2 guys buying SCIV 10 days early. Anyone find a retailer breaking street date yet, or know which stores have gotten their shipments to try and get them to?

The only stores that are normally willing to break a street date are individually owned local stores. Big chains are afraid of upsetting publishers by breaking street dates, and most now have systems in place that won't even allow the barcode to be scanned until the street date. With all that said, you're probably just going to have to wait.

I know earlier you said you are getting both the 360 and PS3 versions, after putting in time with the PS3 version, do you have a suggestion of which to get?
I am torn between to get it for 360 or PS3.

I can't wait any longer for this game!! Looks to be friggin sweet!

Anybody here not planning on getting an arcade stick and just playing w/ the stock controller?

I can't deal with using a normal controller for fighters anymore. It really does a number on my thumbs.

SC is probably the one fighter I don't mind using an analog stick to play. No "half circle forward, quarter circle back" type movies really helps.

Ivy and Taki have gotten weird...

Everyone is pretty much the same + tweaks.

I hate what they did to Yoshimitsu though!

Cervantes is almost the same except with weird stuff added.

How is yoshi changed?

Before I got my stick I used to use the face buttons of the controller with 2 fingers instead of a thumb, much like a stick. I found that more comfortable. But since I got my stick I can't go back.

Yoshi's launching knee is gone... his 3A is still shitty. his 1A series seem worse than ever before. But!

He has Tekken 6 moves. So I hype that up.

Still going to use him!

Have you tried the CAS very much? I would love to hear more because that was my favourite feature of III. Can you make characters that look as bad ass as the real characters? More importantly, are the generic move sets interesting and useful?
