SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]

The 1up staff brought up a really good point... will what THEY (Manta and Alex J.) say hold true 6 months from now? Nope.

I can't see Hilde as bottom tier, even now. Her RO ability and options make her too good to be at the bottom stack.

a few of my customs... while not great, I don't think they suck either:
Can someone help me? Im on level 21 ascending. I have to voluntarily get a ring out, but the game wont let me jump off the stage. I was able to do it after i won, but it didnt give me the treasure.

PS the online is gay. I tried for a while to find a match and it kept saying lobby was full or something. So i tried a little later and then i had to sit in some line watching someone else fight. Sorry i want to play, not watch someone else fight. What the hell.

Maybe i can get someone from here to do some private matches. I just want to do them mainly for the achievements. My live gold runs out on august 12th, and id like to get them all before it runs out.
I used Talim and had her flip off the edge, it's pretty easy.
Has anyone else noticed the horrible lip synching? I finally made a Ninja Turtle. Although it's not very good.
it's great if you're playing in japanese.

I played all the levels i had online, and didnt get the achievement. So i must be missing some. I have 19. Is there any info on level list, or how to unlock levels?

it's extremely easy with Certs....dreay charge and B(Y) off the stage.

Level 11 ascending was hard getting the treasure chest. But I used Yung Sung, that CF is the easiest to do and the goofiest I've seen.

There is a 20th level that someone I played against said was unlocked via the Tower so I was finally able to get the achievement. The stage is called Phantom Pavilion - Seesaw.

Hmmm thanks, it seems i have to get 3+ guard impacts in level 14 of ascending tower of souls.

Do guard impacts only work when the opponent uses a weapon against you? Because i cant seem to get many of them. I got 2 once, but most of the time i get none. This is really pissing me off. I just want this damn level.

I think it's back and guard. isn't forward and guard a repel?

I think this game is really good, and its really a challenge. But there are a few things i dont like about the game.

- In test mode pressing the right analog in resets the test to the begining. (i have a bad habit of pressing the analogs in a lot when i have to wait for a throw to get done)
- The in game moves list is in its own language. Would it have really killed someone to translate it to XBOX 360 buttons instead of B, G, and everything else. I know the translation key is on the left, but i keep having to go back and see what the buttons mean.
- Sometimes the CPU is cheap, especially in harder levels. They constantly attack you leaving you no room to get a move in. They also constantly hit you when you are on the ground leaving you unable to get up until they take a big chunk of life out of you.
- Sometimes block doesnt seem to work.
- Oh and one more thing, this game has been hit with the "are you sure?" menu. If there is one thing i hate in video games its the extra menu that isnt needed asking you if you are sure about what you just selected. I could see if it was for a save, or something important. But come on, its asking me if im sure i want to retry the level i just lost? At least meet me half way and make the default selection on YES instead of no!

I swear, I'm kinda starting to wish I had gotten the 360 version. For the sheer simple fact that its more likely to have people talking. Played a few online a bit ago and most rooms had no one with a headset, if they did, it sure as hell wasn't English or any thing other than what sounded like an Asiatic language. I swear, if you have the money to go spend on a 400-500 system and an extra 60 for a game, you can damn well afford a headset...

no one is really talking on the XBOX version either....either they're Japanese (I looked at their profiles), or they just took the headset out.
The mics cut off during the match anyway.
I was wondering about that. Every other fighting game I've played online they're turned on. Whatta joke...

Damn im doing the tower of souls, and im on levels 30-32F. I get past floor 30 and 31 easy, then i beat the first two characters in floor 32. Then here comes voldo. He blocks everything, and just kills me. I really hate him. He knocked me off with a booty bump once, and he is always ducking under my attacks.

Part of the reason (not for everyone) just has to do with not having their network settings right (I'm talking about playing under a highly secured firewall can affect voicechat in some games, dunno about SCIV). I personally rather have people be quiet unless their friends of mine (most people are just annoying). ;) For the most part, people have it, they just don't use it all the time.

I think they did that to cut down on lag. I know for sure in the game Tekken 5: DR Online, it says if you decide to use voicechat, the amount of bandwidth needed greatly increases (and your connection isn't as stable). Basically, connection was cleaner when voicechat wasn't used in-game, which is why I'm guessing Namco decided to turn it off during gameplay.

I'm all for cutting down on lag...but it is nice to get into a room and afterwhile a good conversation gets going...

Sent ya a friend request on PSN, btw TMK

Hmmm, on Xbox 360, I occassionally get a "What's UP!" At the beginning of matches. Maybe say a compliment or 2 if people are playing exceptionally well (it happens!), and always try to leave with a "Good game!" to the better players.

Voice Chat shouldn't affect Xbox 360 match connection speed much, if at all, though, should it? I'd figure the 360 always has a channel / partition of your bandwidth reserved for voice chat, shouldn't it? I always figured that's why FPS and such don't run as smooth online on 360, because their network is attempting to optimize for the Gameplay / Voice chat together, where as PC's just have the internet open for general use, so their bottleneck is decided moreso on a software-to-software basis. Any network people around here able to tell me if my theory is correct or not?

I always mute my mic though, when I'm not saying anything important... breathing/talking to others in room/random background crap does NOT need to be aired over the internet! I wish more people shared that sentiment....

I leave my mic on mute till I have something to say as I hate hearing people suck on their mics in Xbox Live. I noticed that in Player Matches people talk a lot and in Ranked you get the silent treatment. I kind of gave up on Ranked Matches as there was too much cheap tactics used by people who just like padding their stats. Player Matches end up being more fun since records do not count and people I have played against seem to try different things other then the same 4 characters you see a lot in Ranked Matches.

Man there sure are a lot of people online who spam regular kicks and punches over and over and over. I had one guy who kept using voldo, using the same moves over and over. Just regular moves, like he couldnt perform any special moves. Oh well, i was more interested in getting that play 100 games achievement to care. 27 achievements, 3 more till i unlock more gear.

My friends and I played about 200 matches of VS mode tonight at my place (PS3 version), we noticed that doing moves with heavy hit effects/sparks causes lag more often than not near walls. This was for a number of stages. You can really feel the frame rate drop. We're gonna switch to the 360 version in a bit and see if we experience anything like that.

I agree that its more lax on player match, and during ranked, many people dont even plug in their mics (Including me) I think if we were able to stay in the room and play again, then maybe I would chat with the guy or something, but since they just kick you out after one match, there isnt much to talk about. Of course, then people would set up a dummy accounts and just boost their stats.

A tournament? What is the purpose---the online mode is a lagfest that is for nothing but shits and giggles. Hell, I can't even 8WR without feeling lag.

Explain why since I'd like to play online but not be cheap >_

I cracked an picked this up at Costco for $53.99. Probably should have waited for a better deal as I likely won't play it a ton for a while anyway. But oh well.

Played for an hour or so last night. Played through Story mode with Mitsurugi and Yoda, then through Arcade with Yoda to unlock the apprentice (beat him on my first try somehow). Liking the game so far.

I'd be interested to know how the 360 version is in that regard. I'm still trying to decide which version to get.

It probably would be better. I think i saw a combo where they wanted you to press Y and A at the same time. Thats almost impossible on a 360 or PS3 controller.

Anyone know what i have to do to unlock artwork?

Its not that hard, but the horizontal throw would be easier I suppose. Or you could bind it into one of your triggers, etc.

As for the artwork, you need to unlock the characters to buy them. I assume you're talking about the bonus characters' pics?

But i unlocked everyone, beat story mode with everyone. But the character pics only show 12 of the characters. Plus the high res pics there is only 2 pages and the 2nd page has only 1 pic of yoda.

Damn im getting sick of arcade mode. Because once you get to the apprentice then its over. He is so ridiculously hard, that its not even fun anymore. I swear i block and he still gets hits on me. I dont even know why he is there, he should only be there if you use yoda.

The difference is the triggers are not as responsive as the face buttons. same goes for the bumpers. An associate and I spent some time in training mode fiddling around with control setups and such with the normal controller involving the triggers and bumpers. once we tried using the stick, the face buttons are vastly more responsive and the stick is easy to slap around and get things done. Slide moves on the fighter stick are a WHOLE LOT easier, seriously. It also makes it easier to go into throws and any combo presses it seems like, but that may just be me. If you know anyone that has one, give it a try, but, like everything, your mileage may vary.

Well, I wont argue with you on that, but Im just saying, its not that hard to execute that throw if you really wanna do it, or maybe I just have a skinny thumb o_O But timing does count, so its quite possible that two players on the same plane fighting each other, the one with the pad might win more times than the other.

damn, I'd love to get in on this tourney, but I'm going to be practically living in my lab for the next couple weeks, so I doubt I'd be available for enough matches. Next time though, I'm def. in!
