SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]
So ... in order of fastest to slowest, the order would be: SC III, SC, SC II, SCIV?
possibly, but i wonder if II and IV are the same speed.
possibly, but i wonder if II and IV are the same speed.
SCIV is the slowest of them all definitely. SC1 is a speed demon while IV is closer tot he speed of Tekken games.

So, is there a website or tutorial or something that will get me introduced to combos and juggles and such? I used to always play button masher in fighting games but I wanna learn to play right.

If you own SCIII alot of the characters retain the same moves, so that's an easy place to learn how to play. If not, just mess around online with the people in the Fighter Thread when the game is out so we can train you or give personal lessons.

I don't have it, but I might run to hastings this weekend and see if they have any cheap copies. I'll most deff play with you guys!

Since I don't have a stick, should I do the 2 finger control for the face buttons? I'm practicing on the XBLA trial of SC(which is a bitch given the pos dpad, thank god I'm getting 4 on the tripple), and that seems like it's better.

SCIII should be easy to get under $10.

I'll say whatever works for you. I know friends that play like that with a controller who are superb that way, while I play like a standard controller and I still do fine.

When I use a pad, I use my thunb to hit adjacent buttons and macro buttons that are across from each other. So, for example, I'd hit square and triangle or square and X with my thunb, but I'd macro square and circle or triangle and X.

With a stick, I don't need macros. ;)

I loved Tira's character and her weapon but I never could get into her. I hope I like how she is changed. She is very interesting to me. Her critical finish is one of my favourites.

Dropped by a Wal-Mart earlier and noticed they had SCIV boxes behind the glass with a 'pre-order only' note. But I noticed the PS3 case was a little oversized. I looked closely and it says it comes with a free keychain. I might be mistaken but it looked identical to the EB pre-order one. 360 version made no mention of it.

Tekken 6 seems faster than SCIV. Then again most of the videos I watch of t6 care of miguel, and he likes making people fly so....

watch some videos of Bob and you'll see how slow all SC games are compared to him.

Maybe its me then. Maybe Soul Calibur is more noob friendly? Just saying as a very very casual fighting game player who enjoyed SCIII when it came out and just recently started playing T5DR I found that SCIII felt more quick and faster to get in to. I imagine in higher-level play, when people are pulling off 10-hit combos in T5DR for instance, it is much different.
They had to slow it down, otherwise we could not appreciate the boob physics.
I was seriously waiting for news of a "Zero Gravity" setting or mode to be leaked or something.

it always has been since SC1. it has an even more basic setup and properties than most fighters. It's initially more firendly than most fighters are when fighting...

also, and WTF: Lizardman's low armor break is his tail getting cut off

This might be the DLC that you get for free from buying the LE version. Dont quote me on that though.
wait, there's free DLC for the LE?

Has any1 who's played both versions noticed any differences (FPS/resolution/textures/AA,jaggies) between them or are they identical?
 at Tira's lesbian kiss critical finish.
Too bad I saw it used on Voldo... And Yoda's Critical Finish is awesome.

IMO there really isn't a lot to learn, especially in terms of combos.

I've beaten scrubs using just Cassie's BB. It's really more about finding out which attacks track, when it's safe/unsafe to follow up your attacks, and punishing whiffs.

All that should put you above the scrub level.

Believe it or not, THIS is what made me decide to pre-order. I detested the speed of III, and the new focus of aggression with the Critical Finishers, combined with the question of speed, made me think it was going to reward mashing more than the others, but now I'm sold. Namco should send you a kickback, RR.

Soul Calibur is deep, but not in the juggle department. Air control changes that. This game is all about knowledge and spacing. And again, I want to reiterate.

The only Soul game that I think is faster paced than any Tekken after Tekken 2 is Soul Edge/Blade. Even SC 1 and SC II are slower than Tekken's general speed.

SC III was probably the closest.

A local store near me broke street, I didn't see a Xbox 360 thread but just to give you a heads up most stores received it today but can't sell till 7/29.

I had a amazon copy already pre-ordered but I said fuck it.

If you want proof check my gamertag later tonight. I don't know if im going to be able to play Live matches yet though.

July 25, 2008 - Darth Vader vs Yoda Screenshots. Confirmed as DLC?

http://www.gamersreports.com/news/8653/vader-coming-to-360-soul-calibur-iv-as-download-screens/

Another quality GamersReports exclusive coming your way, folks. According to one of our illustrious anonymous email sources, these three screens are of Darth Vader versus Yoda in the Xbox360 version of Soul Calibur IV. The Vader is being planned as an add-on download, it seems. No word on when, or even if ever it will be released, but the proof is in the screens, unedited for your pleasure. (Thanks, Dogbat)

*Update: Just to clarify, the Vader is supposedly going to be a download add-on, that may or may not be charged for, and this comes directly from Namco, not hacked from the disc or fan-hacked or any such sort of trickery. It is likely going to work in reverse for the PS3 version with Yoda, as well. Just to clarify on some speculation we've seen, thanks.

Thats either a damn good photoshop or i was right all along.

I don't doubt it's true, but I could point to other pics of where that Vader is in that stage pic. Also seems too perfect that the Apprentice is not unlocked yet, although every other character is.

But they'll bring Yoda to PS3 as well, and if they don't, Namco's retarded.

makes total sense. namco should be more tight lipped about it. Still PS3 for me largely due to the fact you can install the game for faster load times. Load times in fighters mean alot to me.

It was sort of pointless to me what there doing why didn't they just have both characters in both games to begin with? I could care less about the star war characters to be honest I rather they wasn't in the game at all. I can't wait till the game comes out. I really like fighters.

EGM Review

SoulCalibur IV - A, B+, B+
Good: Extreme fun and value
Bad: Darth Vader is pretty lame

Come fall update 360 can install any games too for faster load times.

I still think the PS3 will have the upper hand on this:

Intentional Install Built for faster loading specifically for this game vs. install that may or may not speed this game up in certain parts vs others.

Why the hell have all the videos been removed. When will companies understand that if it isn't a film, it'll only drive up the hype.

I want to see the Soul Calibur 4 cup video.

why wouldn't it speed up all games (unless the game already has awesome load times.)

Not to mention that PS3 installs are mandatory and only get the game up to par with (or marginally better than) 360 game load times.

for this game the install is entirely optional. There's a difference between hard coding an install intentionally to speed up time for a specific game vs any game.
So maybe Vader/Yoda will be launch day DLC
No way, that would cannibalize sales of the PS3 version.

I was soooo close to getting the 360 version at Wal-Mart today. They had the listing for it, they spent nearly 30 minutes looking for it, and they told me they couldn't find it :( Whatever, I believe him when he says the game is old because Soul Calibur V was coming out tonight
