SoulCalibur IV - (10.17.08) - Vader/Yoda DLC set to release on 10/23 [400 points]
Excuse me sir, what is 3BA?
3=downright
B=vertical slash / triangle / Y
A=horizontal slash / square/ X

learn your notation!!!!!

markman: i heard 3B wasn't safe. it also stuns on CH, presumably an escapable stun.

amy's 6bb is money as a punisher on block.

easy combo, whiff punisher: 66A+B B+K 66A+B

i like her unblockable, i think it's 3A+B, it's pretty fast, good tech trap stuff
still need to learn the 236 chains. 236KK sucks on xbox360 pad, i can't do 33B 66B+K 236KK.

33B is great though, not as spammable as setsuka's but still good.

still got a lot to learn with amy though.

I wonder how punishable her 3B is? Good info on the shake on 3B stun though, that shit is vicious for the 3B, 3BA tech catch.

I can't do her 33B, 66B+K, into 236KK followup at all. It is like IMPOSSIBLE for me even up close. I don't think the 236KK is free unless at weird angles anyway. It can be just ukemi'd....

The best part of her 8WR A+B is you can input it from any run direction. Awesome for days.

I've been using her 4BB and 4B>B mixed up with 1A here and there. She is decent.

6BB236 is fiyah too...

CERVANTES though... my man

I know it has been asked but I dont want to look through all the pages but if I get 30 achievements do I get everything in CAS that is in TOLS?
I know it has been asked but I dont want to look through all the pages but if I get 30 achievements do I get everything in CAS that is in TOLS?
i think so. the only thing I have yet to confirm is the rings. you get all the equipment but not sure about rings.

So once I have 30 achievements no point in doing TOLS other then for the extra stage? I know I have to do a guard impact but how do I do that? I keep reading that it is ->G but do i have to time it? What is the easyest way to get 3 of them?

Yeah I think so too about the achievements. I have 40 and I already have leviathan and vodoo unlocked. I have both versions of the game but been playing on the 360 for psn problems. I prefer the ps3 controller though. The 360 dpad is suicide.

There are some nice things on the event theater. The full mitsurugi vs. Vader battle on extras. I actually did not know that the apprentice's true ending was on PS3. He goes meet Vader afterwards on PS3. On the 360 it just cuts it off when he dispatches Algol.

So anyway I'm pretty lonely on both games since not many of my friends have the game so if anyone is searching for a opponent I am both on PS3 and Xbox 360.
PSN : Falryu
XBL: Xcelryu

I'm a rookie so go easy on me. Is it okay if I can add you Rolento and Markman? It would be an honor for me to get pwned by your Lizardman and Cervantes.

Btw. Cas rules! I spend hours making characters.
I'm totally going to make a policelizard now.
I'm going to make a Byson lizard! lol.

I thought the tower of souls didnt unlock, but made the item available so you didnt have to buy it. I could be wrong. You still have to play through story mode to unlock weapons to buy. Does anything unlock via arcade mode?

I've started my Ivy training... its so hard for me to get back into SC IV, coming from Tekken 5 DR, I had been training with Nina... oh well. I can only be good at one fighting game at a time.

Just wondering, how much "modern" equipment is there? Im not sure how many pieces I have, but there wouldnt happen to be something like tank top and jeans would there?

Whats the fastest way to get money? I think going through story mode can get me 10,000 to 16,000 was my best. But i havent checked out how much money i get if i keep going through easier levels of the TOLS.

Easiest way to get money is to abuse a "glitch" in the final level of TOLS. Whenever you're on the ground near the edge, Algol will sometimes do a jumpy combo that causes him to ring himself out. It's fairly consistent. Hard part is getting there in the first place. Nets you around 12k a match.

Holy wow! I made it to level 45-46, though i never seen 46 yet because the one girl in 45 is really hard. You cant grab her, or knock her ring out. Plus she does a ton of damage when you get hit. Wow, how in the world am i supposed to beat her?
I'm realizing I don't mind losing online, winning online, but either win or loss it drives me crazy going up against someone who only cares about winning.
I just want to play someone other than Killik, Nightmare or Siegfried. And see if anyone has any good customizations.

I only play cervy online. I hate playing ranked matches because I'm forced to be cheap. The best match I had yesterday was a laggy one bar match, my Hilde vs Yoshi.
I also hate those selection screen games too. Someone went on random, so I thought that's what they were gonna go for so I went for it too. I ended up with a Taki variation and he chose Cervy. ARRRRRGHHH!!!!!

My online is so laggy, I stay away from online play. Still I manged to rank up fairly easy do to all the noobs. Right now I'm going through story mode with everyone, after that I'll tackle the tower.

i hate losing any games online

i don't know how many BBs i can take anymore.

me - "oh BB, that leaves him in negative frames, i can do BB back and then set up something"
*gets hit by BB*
me - "i bet he's gonna do BB. let me sidestep."
*gets hit by BB*

fuck

i was playing with cassie and discovered this combo on nightmare / rock / zas / sigfried

66B 6B+K BT B+K

oh man it's so dumb looking, i love it. i bet the BT can be ACed though.

i realized why i wasn't hitting amy's 236KK... because the combo is something like 33B 66B+K~236KK. but you say it can be teched, markman? that kinda sucks. you know what else sucks. 236K:A. it's so hard and so unrewarding.

can't wait till my stick comes in. i can't do 236 very well on pad. i want some cassandra mishima action.

 yeah, I really am starting to hate Kilik due to me realizing how stupid you can be and still play decent with him.

So far 90% of the custom characters I've fought have been Cloud Strife. Most Bad.

Saw a SFIII Urien as a Kilik as well, but it was basically a dark skinned dude with underwear... really easy.

if anyone wants to fight me, let me know. I'm down for showing off my customs and whatnot.
Do more items become available to buy just by playing more?
CAS items become unlocked by completing achievements/honors. Something like every five gets new stuff, with everything unlocked once you hit 30 achievements/honors.

Playing through story mode unlocks a weapon to purchase each time you beat it with a different character as well. I've not got into buying weapons etc., just notice the message popping up after beating story mode as I'm working my way through that with all characters before doing anything else.

I'd like to throw my Nightmare in the fray, but I have the 360 version, and most people probably have the PS3 one, so it might not work out so well. Plus nightmare's not so good in SC4.

Lol I don't even try to sidestep anymore unless I have a 5-bar connection. Ran into a couple matches yesterday where it was completely lagless, that was pretty nice.

I also lost to a Mitsurugi scrub with 90 something wins who just did 2+K, B and 6,6+B B over and over again. It was so annoying lol I can't believe I lost to him, but the lag wasn't allowing me to block lows on sight. That's probably my biggest weakness, is that I almost never block low because I was so used to blocking / GI'ing on sight before.

Oh well, at least I finally found a character to play as (Xianghua).
anyone like kamikirimusi?
I've never picked any of those characters. Do they have different hit boxes then they're non-special versions? (for example, does Ashlotte or whatever have smaller hitboxes then Astaroth?)

I don't think I've ever played a game completely lagless. I've had low lag but nothing where I can hit Setsuka's 33B bA 33B with confidence.

I also lose a lot to Sigs and Nites. They spam a lot of low attacks. Blocking low is hard enough but with lag it's impossible.

I'd say the majority of my games are against Cervantes. X is sexy, I wanna learn her. And Ashlotte/Astaroth. And Hilde. And Ivy. And Mina. And Zas. Holy crap, Namco needs to step up their males and make them more interesting. Speaking of which, is Hilde the ONLY new character in this game? I never realized that.

Shura and Elf-girl supposedly have more range than their counterparts (Cervy and Amy) while Kira-whatever and Asholette don't and Angol just creeps everyone out.

Don't forget Yoda / Vader / Apprentice

Angol is new. Amy was in SCIII right? I can't remember. And what's up with all the bonus characters being chicks? Since you can create your own character they seem pointless.

I guess it was like "guest create a characters"

I would LOVE it if they came out with a patch where you could download other people's creations.

Shura does feel like she has more range. kamikirimusi had a mix of nightmare and sigs moves I heard.

When doing the guard inpacts can you hold down G (A on the 360) then when you are about to get hit move the stick or d-pad in that direction? Or do you have to do both at the same time?

same time

for that matter
you can't hold down A then press G to grab either

@rodimus: amy was a guest character in 3, then made a full character in SC3: arcade. algol being a boss character may get the auto-ban -_-;

I'm loving this game. The character creation/editor option adds so much depth to an already awesome game. It's kind of hard to go back to other fighters. Though I can definitely go back to DOA, there's something about kicking someone off of a rooftop only to have their heads jammed into neon lights that never gets old....

I was wondering is there any one out there that actually uses the main cast's 1p as their main fighters? Seems like everyone out there is extremely customized.

I don't think Algol is ban worthy (yet at least), he's slow and very punishable. But he does have some cool/wtf/cheap shit (but so do a lot of chars)...

I was going to ask what the community opinion on Angol is. I've taken a liking to him and noticed he can be quite powerful sometimes.

If you're gonna ban Algol based on cheap shit alone, how about a Maxi one...that character has always been one where you can just button mash and win very cheaply

Different levels of "cheap" though. Maxi is cheap to people that aren't skilled at the game, but generally his strings are useless in higher level play.

Sorry not trying to sound like an elitist.

Is that one level that looks like a church that's round and has no ringouts the new "tournament standard" kind of level? It seems that whenever I play online against a high-level player, they always seem to choose it. Not that the majority of high level players online are experts/tournament-ready, but it seems to be a uniform decision by many of them.

Edit: Forgot to add: Maxi is only cheap online when the lag is horrendous (IE 2+ second delay) and it's impossible to block/GI on sight. Other than that, the mashers tend to use the same strings over and over, and always leave themselves vulnerable because they don't know how to effectively use his stances.

Probably because i believe thats the only level you cant perform a ring out.
