South Park Starting To Suck?

dudecool320

CAGiversary!
I think the new episodes of South Park are not as funny as the old ones. There's a laugh every now and then but not as much. I think Matt and Trey aren't trying anymore. Plus the new season's are short. Season 8 had only 14 and Season 9 is doing the same thing. They did show 17 or 18 episodes a season but they got lazy.:booty:

I think it is a little more "hit or miss" than it used to be, but the PSP episode was incredible. Plus, the end of season 8 really packed a punch. Overall, I'm still very happy with it and I make sure to watch every episode.

I'm not too up to date with SP, I've only seen up to the first episode of this season, Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina, but I think the show's better than ever. It's become a great piece of weekly satire. It might just go over some peoples' heads though
No, it's not starting to suck. I laugh as much as I did before/more than I ever did.
What Trakan said. I'm just putting this to make it long enough.

Baseball episode owned. I also think current South Park is definately as good (if not better) than the South Parks of yesteryears. or something...

This season is actually on the upswing, starting with the Christmas special, which may be better than Scott Tenorman episode. Then there was the Golden PSP. That and Jimy in Erection Day. That was great. Then there was the Baseball episode. "I thought this was America!"
hahaha punxio its like some giant mecha vincent valentine with a mohawk and taiko drum sticks!
Resisting to make avatar.... :bomb: :bomb:

I think it's gone downhill since about season 6. It's still better then most shows but now it's extremely hit or miss. It seems like instead of doing cool new ideas they just seem to rip every story from what's happening in the news. There are some exceptions of course.

Same here, I thought the newer episodes were funny as hell. My personal favorite was the Trent Boyett or the episode of Jimmy getting a boner.
South Park's been getting even better, as this season has been awesome.
I agree. It was a bit weaker than usual until Season 8 started. They nailed anime/martial arts with "Good Times with Weapons."

Let's fighting love! Classic tune.

Season 9 is good so far, too. The weakest episode for me is "Erection Day." Not many laughs in that one. I loved the baseball episode, though. Classic stuff.

Definatly going downhill. I used to love South Park, but i have grown out of it. Its starting to go overboard. There are definatly some decent newer episodes but the Majority of the episodes are the same jokes re-wrapped with a different insult/swear word.

I didn't like tonight's episode, but I will agree with those that are saying "hit or miss." Some of the episodes are very bad, while others are very good.
Great episode tonight, with a great message behind it. The Lemiwinks tie-in was great too.
Paris with her coughin problem, I almost lost it and butters as the bear. Good Ol' Lemiwinks as well, funny stuff

The baseball episode was one of my favorites episodes ever. Some of the best parts were:

"I'm sorry, I thought this was America! I didn't know we were a communist country, I thought this was America!"

Also when he gets up cracks some eggs into a cup, and then makes pancakes.

But the best part was the theme song.

"You're the best, the be-est!
Nothing's gunna ever bring you down!"

Yeah, I love it when they use music from classic movies, or they parody the music.

When I saw Randy crack the eggs into a cup, I figured that he was going to cook them. It was funny as hell, especially when he cracks open the beer and drinks as he cooks.

The eggs thing reminds me of "They Call Me Bruce?", that movie from the 80s. I remember a scene where Bruce is yelling at a poster of Bruce Lee, "Everyone thinks that I am great like you! I'm not you! But I'm going to train, and be strong like Rocky!" Then, he cracks open some eggs, complete with pieces of eggshell, and tries to drink them. He gags, and then says, "Maybe Egg Foo Yung would be better," as he drops the eggs into a wok.

I hated South Park when it started. The crude animation took me a long time to get used to, but actually as the show has gone on and gotten more money I can appreciate the style more rather the coarse paper textures and choppy animation. I wasn't a huge fan of the sick gross-out moments either (I absolutely hated the Paris Hilton and Mr. Garrison sex change episodes recently).

All that said I feel that show has easily become the best satirical show on TV. I never expected this show to really last this long at all when they announced that 100 episode deal following the SP movie (which to this day is probably the best product of South Park, ever). There have been a lot of great episodes for the past two seasons alone, let's not forget the great anime weapons ep, the You Got Served episode, the Passion of the Jew, "They took ER JEBS!", Christmas Woodland Critters, the baseball episode, the Trent Boyett one with the Star Trek TOS parody, and the others mentioned already in this topic.

The great thing, too, is that while I probably don't agree with them politically, I find their satire transcends that and comes across pretty broadly and easily to anyone, without necessarily being crass.

This is what I am liking they are doing satire's so they will not get banned by the FCC heavy hand of late. Then to smooth and balance the show every few episodes is just straight comedy with not correlation to anything.
