Speculation: Wii logo movie reveals final secret
have you guys ever thought about Wii actually being the real name? I was reading on Megagames.com and they confirmed that Nintendo has not filed a patent for the copyright of the name at all! They purchased the gamecube patent a LONG time before they released the name. Also, wii.com has not been purchased by nintendo as gamecube.com was. It actually might make a lot of sense to keep everyone talking. My guess is that there will be another name at E3.... and I think the patent gives it away
This has been disproven already.

Eh, there was some talk about it in one of the threads about the name, but they have gotten NintendoWii.com, and according to reps, they have filed a patent, it just hasn't gone through yet. Sure, its possible, but I'd question if confusing the hell out of people with different names would be any less damaging than a name that people got all up in arms about for a weeks.

ha that sucks. Was kinda hoping they were pulling something. I can get used to the name though. I have faith in Nintendo

Strell man, I seriously think you are on to something. This is pretty much what I was getting at when I started my thread about Wii's name having another meaning regarding the system. After watching the video again, I am starting to think that the final secret is not about 3D projection as much as it is 3D interactivity, most likely with other players. I have no idea how this would work but it definatly ties into the 'togetherness' theme Nintendo is trying to push with the Wii name. You are also spot on with Nintendo's history of clue-giving, so maybe Miyamotos reference to 'games breaking free from the TV' has more to it than we think. The idea makes a lot of sense, but how it would be applied.. well i dunno. Anyways, heres to hoping you are right.

....8 Days? Are you serious? Ive waited two years for some damn closure and its oh so close.. Anticipation for e3 is seriously melting my soul..

i say New 3d Mario fully playable at E3, with Wiimote controls.. sorta like a joystick you hold in your hand, but without the base.. jumping motions are upwards, and running is tied to a button on the remote. Lots of addictive wiimote minigames and boss battles.

I would love to be right on this.

In the case that you were holding the remote like a joystick, couldn't running be controlled by how far you pushed forward or back the controller, just like an analog joystick? I am not sure if the controller will be that sensitive or not, but if it is that would be pretty neat.

could be that or even just motion sensitive within a certain range, which you could calibrate at any time. I'd love to have mario do that fun little circle run by spinning my Wiimote around in circles. Just like an analog stick.

I really can't think of a good way to use the controller differently for a 3D mario. That joystick thing seems odd to me, I think the best would be just to use the analog like usual for movement and the remote for the camera.

Hopefully someone at Nintendo is more creative than me :p.

This is the single biggest reason I'm interest in E3: to see just what Nintendo has cooked up for this thing.

the final secret will be even wii games available for download on the virtual console. you will never have to leave your house to buy a game again. You will also never have to wait for shipping. Soon as a games release date arrives you can download it.

has anyone else notice the arrow on the amazon logo looks very similar to a penis?

anyways, wii will have no idea what the wii will have until that magical day, May the 8th, until then wii will have to go on guessing and guessing and guessing

i think it would be cool for a GOOD fps besides metroid on the wii where you use the wiimote as your gun and it moves with it, and you can play online so everyone can say "hahaha halo 3 go shove this in your ass mister 'awesome'"

Yeah, platformers seem (to me) to have very little to gain from the controller. Which is not to say that the remote is useless in this situation, but that controlling character movement with the remote would be very awkward. I think it is much more likely that some other feature will use the remote, and movement will be done with the nunchaku, but whatever...I'm not worried.

Rewatching that official teaser video with sound on really made me realize how extensively they plan on using the motion sensing features. In that video alone, they seem to show shooting, baseball, racquetball, fishing, sword fights, drilling like a dentist or surgeon, and leading a mario jumping noise with the wand. Because of this, I am leaning more towards the virtual reality mario, zelda, or metroid game to be the big secret.

The one part where the 3 girls swat flies makes it look like they are looking into the air instead of at a screen, which would suggest holograms, but my guess is that was just bad acting on their part. You will also notice at the end when the guy leaves to answer the phone and they show the tv he was looking at, there are no projectors or any other peripherals to suggest more than just playing on a conventional tv.

how will you guys feel if all of these speculations never happen? I am so excited about their news but I am trying to brace myself for any dissapointment that may come my way. Still, I hope it is the best system of all time. Showing a Mario game at E3 would make my day.

The projection and hologram shit isn't happening, I think we all realize this (if not, we damn well should). Projection is pointless and 3D holograms are far beyond anyone's technical capabilities.

We'll find out what's going on soon enough.

Speculating is fun for some people. It helps pass the time. Hopefully everyone isn't too into speculating that they won't be able to accept the truth if it doesn't match their speculation.

does anyone have that link to the news article about nintendo purchasing the vr glasses from some company? I don't remember where I read this, but it was about two months ago. Just curious about what is going on there

I really hope this hasn't been disproven as well. THat would make me pretty far behind on all of the news...

I've figured it out. The Wii will support single-disc multiplayer over WiFi, a la the DS.

This is because it will be too expensive to buy all the launch titles, so they allow you to split costs with friends and still play multiplayer. I buy 10, my other friend buys 10, we can play all 20.

Neat idea. Hmmm.

I don't think it could be bigger than the interface itself, but I guess we'll see.

I guess we CAGs can start divvying up the games then. I call Smash Bros. I CALL SMASH BROS. I will hunt you DOWN if I find out anyone else bought it.

Don't worry, single-disc multiplayer is only one of the announcements. It'll be the first one to get the weakness out of the way so the real excitement can be built up for fact that... well, I've said enough.

He is watching.

That actually sounds somewhat reasonable, would suck for people with 56k though :p.

The problem of course is just that between DSes there is a high-speed connection doing nothing but transferring that data (perhaps 10 or so mb per second, much faster than what you're going to get even with a good broadband modem) and there isn't much data to transfer since the entire game is something like 128mb and all that doesn't have to be transferred. A Wii game will probably be around 4-6gb and your best transfer rate would probably be about 300kb/s so if you had to dl around 200mb to play the multiplayer it would take you around 15 minutes at best before you can play.

Sorry for being the negative nancy here :p.

The single disc multiplayer over Wifi would be a rather high bandwidth solution, which seems to be the thing they want to avoid, not that its THEIR bandwidth.

Also, theres not a lot of memory to hold the demo, unless its small.

Its certainly in the realm of possibility though.

I'm totally using that as my avatar.
I can't say that I'm fully onboard with your ideas, Strelly Boy, but it's interesting.

The Wii is the first console, EVER, that I'll get at launch (and I've been in teh gamez since the NES). I've always wait for a certain console to prove itself worthy of my money. One way or another, Nintendo is going to bring an experience unknown to video games with the Wii. Maybe it'll suck ass. I hope not, but it might. But, since the DS has more than proven itself to live up to its potential, and now even 3rd parties like Ubisoft and EA are showing that they are respecting the Wii (note, these two companies brought us the wonders of King Kong and Burnout on the DS respectively), I'm in at launch and am sure it'll be one heck of a ride. I no longer have time/money/patience to play the same crap over and over. It's either something new or I'm more or less done with gaming.

E3 can't come soon enough. It's gonna be a fun time.
Ironically enough, it will the first home console I buy at launch as well.

Honesty, I buying the Wii for two reasons: 1) Virtual Console 2) New Smash Bros. It could come with a flying, shit tossing spider monkey for all I care.
